Amari took Dari's hand, freezing as it squished. "Am I hurting you?" She asked in concern, quickly looking to Dari's face. She loosened her hold and studied his hand. "People are scared of you?" She asked. "Why? You're still the person behind the spell." And he was the nicest person she'd met all day!

"No, not at all. I can't feel pain, or much of anything else really. Just general touch." He smiled to Amari and flashed a toothy grin. "They make horror movies about things that look like me." He closed his lips then. "Anyway, I was only this for many years. My people are not all human-shape...in fact, none I can remember are, but I was found and protected by humanoids."

"That's silly, though. They make horror movies about children. All sorts of things." Especially here, people needed to the difference between fiction and reality. "I was a rescue too," she said. She smiled at Dari. "I'm not scared of you."

"A 'rescue'..." Dari said and chuckled. "Trust me, I was more of a rescue than you were. They scraped me off of a spacecraft wall and then considered incinerating me." Oh, damn. That would probably make Maia unhappy. Oh well, it was too late now. "My partner rescued me."
He paused then. "Have you met Michael yet?"

Maia was frowning at Dari in concern. "Speaking of Toby, where is he?" She asked, and looked around. "He hasn't forgotten lunch has he?"
"I haven't yet." Amari admitted.

"He has to work on some damage control. He's eating in the office," Dari said to Maia, and then turned to Amari. "Alright. Well. If you can, I think it would be best to approach him with someone he knows and trusts. He can be a bit... finicky." And he could be here right now for all they knew.
"Anyway, what do you want for food?" he asked, "I'll go wait for you. You two can talk."

"So...Approach him with one of you guys?" Amari guessed. "Lori doesn't seem to like him much." Oh? "Uh, a cheeseburger? Thank you!" She smiled at Dari.
"I can introduce you to Michael," Maia offered. "He's a sweetheart. Saved my fiancee's life."

"Myself of Toby work with him regularly, he does like Maia...other than that it's pretty hit or miss. He likes Kevin a lot, but he did also scare him pretty severely." Dari got up and nodded. "Cheeseburger, got it." He began toward the line.

Dari and Maia were certainly friendly, Amari spent most of her lunch hour talking to them. Apparently Michael was a lot like Seamus in that he was hit or miss--and played favorites.
She headed back to research, taking her chair out and positioning it slightly behind Lori's so she could see the computer. "I met some really kind people," she said. "It was nice."

Lori was waiting for Amari behind his desk, but he stood when she scooted over.
"I thought you might want to meet a couple more of our wards before we start in with the tedium?" he asked.

Meet wards? Amari smiled brightly, then seemed to struggle to fight it. Finding that she couldn't, she said, "I'd love to!"
"I met Maia and Dari already, they're really friendly."

Lori laughed slightly through his nose and motioned for Amari to follow him.
"Come on, then. I just saw pixie at his perch." Of course Pixie had quite a few perches, but there was one relatively near Research. "Oh? Yeah, they're good people. Maia is actually the selkie from that video I showed you earlier."

Amari followed him. "Really? She was feeding Seamus when I bumped into her. Told me if I feed him, I'll be his friend." Who was Pixie? "Dari showed me his other form, that was exciting."

"That's usually true," Lori agreed, "but he also has a soft spot for fae, and she is one." He continued walking. "Oh, did he now? He's a good guy. Gets a bad reputation for his looks, the poor thing."
They approached a sturdy perch then where Pixie stood, quietly grooming in a wobbly, multiple-strike sort of way. Lori whistled and Pixie perked, blinked, and tilted his head in the usual way at Lori. The elf approached and pressed his finger against Pixie's shins. The tiny dragon stepped on without having to look and studied the newcomer with his sideways stare.
"This is Pixie."

"So he especially likes her?" Amari guessed. "He's really nice. It's a shame people judge on appearance, even here. You don't really expect it, in a place where they work with entities regularly." She paused and made a face. "He helped me get lunch. They offered to introduce me to Michael, too."
She fell silent when Pixie came into view, eyes widening slightly. "These used to live in my forest, but they were all gone by the time we left." she said, and slowly reached out to stroke Pixie's cheek. "It's nice to meet you, Pixie."
