Oh? Maia'd been about to suggest they go sit on the couch to wait for them to cool. She smiled at him, straightening a bit and kissing him again. "I think Dari's spending the night at Cody's," she said.

"Oh?" Toby said. He kissed her again and then smooched her neck and gave it a little n**, complete with bitey sound effects. He grinned goofily at her.

"Mhmmm," Maia said. "We've got the house to ourselves." She kissed him, smiling slightly. Toby was being adorable.

Toby chuckled and rocked slightly as they kissed. He stroked Maia's hair and began to trail kisses across her lips and down her neck. It was a bit more serious this time, even if he was smiling.

It was at the dinner table that it finally came up. Never wanting to start a conflict at the table, Toby asked permission first.
"Can we talk about something semi-serious? Not bad, just maybe warranting an extended discussion."
Dari arched a brow. "You sound like me."

Semi serious, but not bad? Maia paused, looking to Toby expectantly. "An extended discussion?" She prompted.

Toby nibbled his lower lip a moment, and then decided to continue.
"I mean, about whether it should be done or not," he said. "Generally speaking, younger entities get an official guardian for school records and so on and so forth. Seeing as to how Kevin's probably going to start school relatively soon, and he likes all of us so much--"
"He likes you a lot," Dari said, and took a bite of food and smiled.
Toby laughed. "Well, yeah. Anyway. I thought maybe I should offer to be his? He wouldn't live here or anything, it's just like a... well, a mentor program at best and legal help at least. You two wouldn't have to do anything. Even married."
"I know."
"I know you know."
"So address your fiancee. Wussy."
"Dari." Toby laughed again. Dari personally felt proud that he had lightened the situation.

Maia thought it was a lovely idea. She gave Toby a smile. "I think he'd really like that," she said. He didn't have live with them? Hm. "We could invite him over sometimes," she offered. Kevin would probably like that. Take him out sometimes.
She reached for Toby's hand and smiled encouragingly.

"Oh, yeah! Yeah, of course. I just don't think this is the time to start introducing new people to the household," Toby admitted. It had made him feel bad at first to think about it that way, but it was true. Their lives were just getting started. He'd gladly go to parent-teacher meetings but he wasn't sure a full-time commitment was his gig just yet. "So it's okay then?"
He brought Maia's hand to his lips and kissed it.

Maia nodded in understanding. So Toby wasn't ready to be a full time parent. Hah. That was fine; life's adventure had barely started. They weren't even married yet! "Of course," she said. "You'll have fun with parent teacher meetings, I hear Cody's going to be one of his teachers."

"Did Cody tell you that?" Toby asked with a laugh.
Dari shook his head. "Cody isn't licensed yet. He's a bit afraid to visit HQ. So depending first upon whether he gets licensed soon enough and secondly upon whether his school is the right place for Kevin after investigation, then he may be one of his teachers," he clarified, "but I'm glad he's excited." Everyone certainly hoped Kevin would go to Cody's school.

"He did," Maia said, looking to Toby and smiling. "He told me you told him about Michael," she added, glancing at Dari. Her smile faded somewhat. "When I came, you were all 'You can meet fae, everyone's great!' I told him everything's safe, but he wouldn't listen." She shook her head. "I think the 'Look, everyone's great!' Would have been more effective."

"Well, it's not just Michael unfortunately," Dari said, but damned if he was going to go any further than that. "He has a lot of preconceptions about certain species. He seems excited to meet others, though. That's a step in the right direction. If I could take back the conversation we'd been having, I would have."

Oh dear. Probably vampires and things humans put in horror movies. A lot of monster movies were older, though. People seemed to prefer blood and guts to giant spiders and Dracula. She pulled a face. "That'll be fun," she said.

Dari shrugged. "Some day I might just tell him to get over it and meet some people. Nobody says I have to tell him what they are."
Toby snorted.
