Kevin was really looking forward to this. He held onto the end of his sparkler. "Ready," He said. What would it do? Toby had said they sparkled, but that came with the name. Was that all they did?

Toby lit Kevin's sparkler and then everyone else's in line before his own. He quickly turned to Kevin to see his reaction.

Kevin lit up, waving the sparkler experimentally. Cool! It was like a magic wand, almost, the way the sparks stayed at the end. "Awesome," he muttered, watching it. He waved it again.

It was just a sparking stick, but Kevin seemed entranced by it. Toby smiled and spun his, feeling the sparks hit his skin before they extinguished.
"Which do you like better, these or the Popits?"

"I like them both," Kevin said, and smiled at Toby. "I think I like these best, though." He watched Toby and paused. "I don't like you hurt," he reminded him.

"I'm not going to get hurt," Toby assured him. "It's just a little spark. You'll feel them too as it burns down." They were lucky that Kevin hadn't experienced him blasted open in the hospital.
Dari too was entranced, but who knew what he saw when he watched the sparks fly.

Kevin still seemed concerned until he felt one. He paused, looking at his hand closely before grinning. "Good," he said.
Cody smiled at the look on Dari's face. He waved his sparkler close to Dari's. "Look, we can make a heart."
Luca was trying to resist the urge to drop his. He was nervous, but it was pretty... He moved it slowly.

Dari smiled and swung his sparkler in the same way to create a heart with Cody. He leaned over and kissed his fiancee's cheek.
Lori looked to Luca and chuckled. "Are you alright, then?"

Cody smiled. "I love you," he said.
"What happens when it gets too close to my hand?" Luca asked. He looked at the tip of the sparkler nervously.
Maia was watching as she spun her sparkler, eyes dancing. She looked to Toby and Kevin. It was nice, this. Everyone was enjoying themselves.

"I love you too," Dari said.
Lori turned his sparkler upside-down and held it relatively near Luca's hand to show him the feeling of the sparks. "Just that."
Toby smiled and leaned over to kiss Maia's cheek. She had gone from alone on the beach to this cobbled sort of family that now even included a human. He hoped she was happy with that.

Luca's eyes widened. He seemed to want to pull his hand away, but paused. It didn't hurt! "Oh," He said. He waved his sparkler with more confidence.
Maia smiled. "They're beautiful," she said. She waved her sparkler close to Toby's.
Kevin looked towards Toby and Maia suspiciously. "Don't be mushy."

Lori chuckled. "Yeah, that's it." He wrapped his arm back around Luca and pulled him to his own shoulder.
Toby bopped Maia's sparkler with his and grinned. "I wish they came in colors."

Luca smiled, leaning slightly against Lori. "I've never done this before," he said. "I'm really looking forward to the fireworks." He'd wanted to see fireworks in person ever since New Years.
"They don't?" Maia asked. "I think they're lovely." She glanced at Kevin and grinned. "I have another box of these," She offered. Maybe that'd keep him from complaining about mush.

"No? What about fireworks?" It was hard for Lori to imagine that someone who had been a part of human society could somehow not have seen fireworks.
"I don't think so, anyway," Toby said.

"I've seen them from a distance, and on tv," Luca said. "I never did holidays before you." He kissed Lori's cheek.
"Maybe they'll have some by next year."
Kevin took his sparkler and spun it in a circle. "When do the fireworks start?" he asked.
