"He seemed to claim it, and you." And Maia herself. "Want help with the next one?" she asked. "I can use a hammer."

"Alright. I'll call whenever I tire of them." Reese smile.

"Sure, if you'd like to," Lori said with a nod. He had already stripped down a fair number of beams and miscellaneous construction debris, so he began to gather some more up. "Is there anything specific I should be making, Reese?"

"Winter shelters?" Reese suggested. "The birds get cold during the winter." He smiled at Lori then. "Can you teach me to build things?"

"I meant size or ty--yeah! Yeah, we can build some stuff in the trees, there we go," Lori nodded. He turned to Maia. "You aren't afraid of heights, are you?" He turned back to Reese. "Sure! Do you want to come with us? Can you teleport wood?"

"No," Maia assured him with a smile. "I'm fine."

"Let's go," Reese said, and took some of the wood. He phased experimentally. He returned immediately. "I didn't know I could do that," he marveled. "Come on. I'll take us all there."

"Hey, there's a first time for everything!" Lori said with a grin. Toby waved from his perch. Dari started to climb up to join him, just for the hell of it.

Lori meanwhile loaded his arms with wood and took one of Reese's hands.

Reese phased Lori up to the place he had in mind. "I'll go get Maia," he said. "And get some more wood." He left the elf there and disappeared, reappearing with the selkie in tow. As promised, He was holding several pieces of wood in his free arms.

"Okay, so what we're going to do is find a good sturdy tree and see if we can't make a couple of decent birdhouses." Not the type you'd find in suburbia, of course, but something decent for the large amount of birds that lived here.

Maybe a week after they'd gotten home from California, headquarters got a call. There was a family being plagued by a mischevious spirit. There were children involved and their mother was becoming frantic. Household items were regularly moved in the room opposite of where they belonged. A number of their youngest's bath toys had ended up in the sink. But there had been sightings, even by those not in the family. A small boy had been described by all parties involved.

Maia was sitting with Michael's item in her lap. She wasn't looking forward to this mission; but additional training never hurt anyone, she supposed. When they arrived, it was a mid-sized house from the early 1900s. It had two columns in front and was painted in light colors. The large porch in front seemed rather empty, as if things had been moved in a hurry. For company, maybe?

It was nice to work in plain clothes sometimes. It was, however, a little awkward to pretend they didn't have federal clearance. Whipping out a badge was bad news for the whole organization.

Michael's item this time was a voice recorder. Toby had considered giving him a pen, but that was too easy to lose and poor Michael would have to haunt one of their shirts back or possess one of them. Besides, a haunted voice recorder was good news when Michael didn't want to appear but needed to make contact. One could never be sure with the spirit.

They parked and headed up the walk. Toby sighed and brushed his hands on his pants. Alright. Here they went. He never trusted child spirits, not after Michael. He knocked on the front door and assumed that the family had been watching, as a woman answered almost immediately. She smiled, but there was a strain in her face and dark circles under her eyes.

"Hi. I'm Ginny." Her arms were crossed. She uncrossed only one to shake Toby's hand.

"Hey, I'm Toby. This is my brother Darren and my fiancee Maia." Dari shook her hand. "Our fourth member has yet to arrive, as per usual."

Ginny shook each hand in turn and smiled again. "This is my husband, Henry."

Toby shook the man's hand, and Dari did as well.

"Thank you for coming out," Ginny said.

Toby nodded and gave his most trustworthy, winning smile. "Of course, ma'am. It's what we do."

Maia shook Ginny's hand. This woman had the look of a worried mother. The ghost had definitely taken it's toll on her. She shook Henry's as well.

"Be careful," Henry warned the group. "This...whatever it is. It doesn't stop. It pulled the carpet out from under me. Literally. Like one of those cartoons our boys watch." He hadn't been convinced of it's existence, had even teased his wife for believing.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2016 8:24 pm

"Don't worry, we've seen all sorts of things in this line of work," Toby said. A pulled carpet could be a naive spirit playing a prank, but it could also be a malevolent spirit trying to cause real harm. Toby worked his lips and nodded.

"Now, you said you had some proof?" he asked. It could be anything. Usually it was photos, and usually of balls of 'light' that were actually bugs or dust, suspicious shadows, or blurs of motion. In other words, it was usually crap. Videos were nicer, and audio as well, but he wasn't holding his breath.

Ginny looked to her husband.

Henry took out his phone and offered it to Toby silently. On the screen was a video waiting to be played. Once the werewolf hit play, there was a child passing the camera. The kid was dressed in an outfit suited for the year the house was built.

"He was calling for his mother. Always for his mother." Henry looked distressed. "When we don't respond he acts up."

Toby's brows shot up and the fingers of his free hand splayed on his lip. Well s**t.

"Is that one of your children?" Toby asked.

Ginny shook her head. "No."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely."

Well then, Toby thought. This was either a horrible scam or one of the most definite cases to date. Of course the Bureau didn't send them out on things they thought were faked. Research was better than that.

"Alright," Toby said, recovering quickly and smiling, "Like we discussed on the phone, we're going to set up some cameras, do some walkthroughs, the usual stuff. If we come up with something, would you like us to attempt a cleansing? It's nothing violent or religious or anything like that."

Again Ginny looked to her husband, her arms crossed. "I don't know. I think that'd be nice. If it pulls the rug out from under the baby..."

Henry hesitated, and then nodded. "We'd just like him to move on," he said. "He's been here a long time, and active since before Josh was born..." He looked to Ginny. "Ready to go?" he asked. The sooner they left, the sooner they were away from the ghost!

Maia's lips were in a straight line. She was concerned for the safety of those children.
