"We're going to go get dressed and head around the human end. We'll probably bring them here, so don't stay too close. If we get too near, just transport the both of you out of here. Will you be alright, Maia?" Toby asked. He didn't want to just up and leave her if she was uncomfortable. It would be a good time to test her training as a fae ambassador, though.

Reese nodded in understanding. They definitely didn't want to be caught here, if the humans were brought.
"We'll be fine," Maia assured Toby with a small smile.

"Alright," Toby said with a nod, "Keep your phone on. We'll be a little while. We just need to let them know we're watching, and it'll stop. Nobody wants to go to prison."

They'd had to drive off in the car, then park in that bizarre locale again and walk back into the woods. Toby undid his tie and called into the forest:
"Reese? Maia?"

Reese appeared almost at once. He was holding Maia's hand, and smiled. "About time you got back," he said. "Do you have news?" he asked.
Maia looked amused. "He couldn't figure out my phone," she revealed. Or Reese would've called a while ago, demanding facts.

"Yes. Everyone looked horrified," Toby said with a laugh, "They know they're caught, and they know we're watching."
"We also assumed the position that we had been watching because the forest may be home to the Sierra Nevada red fox," Dari added.
Lori shrugged. "I just stood there and looked big." He pulled his hair out of the tiny ponytail it had been held back in.

"Good!" Reese seemed pleased. Apparently agents could act scary, however harmless they appeared. He looked to Dari, then, and his smile grew. And good at lying! These guys had more talent than he'd given them credit for.
Maia went over to Lori. "I thought you looked pretty tough," she said.

Lori chuckled and grinned to Maia. "Yeah? Were you there?" Hey, it was possible.
"So they'll stop moving in for sure. We told them we'll be back, and people think the FBI has eyes everywhere," Toby said. "...which is probably because we do."

"From a distance, and only briefly," Maia said, and shook her head. "Reese was more interested in my phone."
"That device is possessed," Reese revealed. "It has a woman in it, and she refused to call the werewolf for me."

"Oh. We didn't see you," Lori said. That was a good thing.
"It's just a robotic voice, don't worry," Toby said to Reese, "It's just a voice instead of text, and I doubt Maia had me in there as 'the werewolf.' It reads the text."

"He's very good at keeping unseen," Maia observed. "He showed me around a bit." She wasn't sure she liked Reese's way of teleporting around any more than she liked flying.
"A robotic voice?" Reese echoed. "It kept suggesting things like "The Wolfman and Dances With Wolves. I don't know what those are."

"Oh? How'd you find it, then?" Lori asked Maia.
"Those are movies," Toby said to Reese, "You know, moving pictures on screens for over an hour. Did we never introduce ourselves? I'm Special Agent Tobias Aikley, that's Special Agent Lorien Yraudhen, this is Special Agent Darren Aikley, and that lovely lady is Maia Miren."

"It's lovely," Maia said, "Everything's so bright and vibrant. And he says it stays like this all year?" she looked at Reese questioningly.
"I may have exaggerated," Reese admitted, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "I know Lori already," he said, as Toby introduced himself. "I'm Reese. I don't have any of those...second name things." He made a face, and looked to Lori. "Why is yours so impossible to pronounce? I just like Lori."

Huh, that sounded odd. Lori looked to Reese, and then smiled. Did everyone have a crush on Maia now?
"Why does everyone say that?" he asked then, "It's a perfectly normal Elven name!"
"I don't really have a second name either. That's what it says on my ID, but my people don't have names in the same way humanity does," Dari commented.

"I don't like snow," Reese admitted, catching Lori's smile. "And your name is impossible to say. I'm not going to try."
"Don't worry," Maia piped up, grinning at Reese. "I've known him a year, and I still can't say it."
The guardian went over to Dari, taking the alien's hand. He seemed to approve of not having a second name. "Are you guys going to your hotel now?" he asked. "Are you going to have those humans gone soon?'
