"I won't," Toby agreed, then turned to Cody. "You do realize you're going to make my life a living hell, right?" He wrapped an arm around Maia and took another bite of fudge. "An adorable living hell, but still."
Dari waved a dismissive hand. "Eh, you'll be fine."

"Don't eat it in one go, then?" Cody suggested, and snickered. "Are you really that bad, Maia?" he asked, looking at her.
"Hell?" Maia echoed, looking at Toby. "We can share it," she added. "What is it? And no." She took a bite of her fudge.
"The greatest thing ever," Cody began. "Spreadable marshmallow you can put on anything."

Toby laughed and kissed Maia's temple. He was only teasing! Well, he was mostly teasing. Maia did like her sugar, and it did make her fairly energetic.
Dari nodded. "Lori's worse than you are, Maia."

"Should I get Lori one, too?" Cody asked.
"He'd like that," Maia laughed. "Toby got after him once for eating most of a bowl of frosting. Poor guy." She finished her piece of fudge and took Peaches from Cody.

"Maybe we should," Dari agreed, and then laughed with Toby over the frosting-with-a-spoon incident
"Fae is fae is fae," Toby said.
Peaches gave what might have been a lackadaisically surprised meow and then began purring when returned to his owner's arms. Toby reached over and scratched his head.
"So what are your plans?" Toby asked.
"Uh." Dari looked to Cody. "We're going out to the country tomorrow. When are we going to tell your mom, anyway?"

"Let's do it," Cody grinned. Introducing people to sweets was almost as fun as eating them. "Fae?" He asked. "I thought he was an elf?"
Maia petted Peaches. "He's the fae kind," she said. "Luca's the forest type."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Cody said, but he was grinning. He kissed Dari's cheek in response, and took another fudge square. "Dari told me about your kelpie friend."
Maia set Peaches down on the floor.

"Who, Kevin? Now that you know you can probably meet him. I mean, he's pretty good in public, but he's pretty young too." Toby took another square as well. "I just want to make sure you're not going to come to a party and have a heart attack or anything. Aliens are your thing though, right?" He smiled and gestured to Dari. "There you go."

"I'm good with teenagers," Cody assured Toby with a smile. "Dari said once he finishes with the basics he might come to my school." He looked at Dari, and his smile grew. "I never imagined a magazine would help me find Dari," He said. "It was fate."

"We were told that the stone that ring is made from is lucky," Toby said with a nod and then shrugged. Who knew, right? He lived in the real world, where magic still existed and more than just wind and humans went bump in the night. "It's totally possible. You're an ally now, like it or not. The only way to unlearn what you've heard isn't really an option any more, so... welcome?" His gaze shifted to Dari. "Are you going to show him around?"
"Yeah. Some day."

"Really?" Cody looked to Dari's ring, intrigued. "So it's an enchanted, lucky ring that brought you to me," he said, smiling at Dari. "We're both lucky."
"Ooh, a tour. Are you going to introduce him to Seamus?" Maia asked.

Dari agreed with a nod, then turned to Cody. "He might curse you, but really he's harmless."Then back to Toby and Maia. "He wants to see Pixie too."
"I'm sure we can corral him for Cody to see."

"A ...cat who curses people?" Cody clarified. Wait. A cat who cursed people was harmless? Maybe in comparison to the other things they faced.
"If you feed Seamus, he'll be your best friend," Maia said. "I made friends with him fast. Toby said that's because I'm fae, though. He visited me my very first night here."

"He's technically not a cat, he's a cat sidhe. A sort of fae animal... creature," Toby said, "All he can do is curse you to think you've been cursed by him."
"It's true," Dari said, "He always liked Maia best. Of course she's the only one who gives him sweets too. Well. Not any more."
