I think that the problem with crying in today's society occured when people started confusing emotional with "emo." Most people tend to cry when they are hurt, sad, depressed, or happy. And yes, this does include guys as well as girls. The problem with admitting it these days is so many guys don't want to be considered "emo" and so many girls don't want to be stuck with the stereo-type of being an "overly-emotional woman." As much as I hate to say this, stereo-types have led to many reasons why people will or will not own up to something they personally used to never be afraid to admit. Take me for example, I've always been an emotional person. I cry when I'm happy, sad, upset, hurt, or depressed. And yes, I even cry during tv shows or movies. But my sister has always made fun of me for it, which is why I try to hold in my tears whenever I'm around her. But this is never good. Crying helps relieve the tension that has been brought on by so many other things, and to not be able to cry builds up more and more tension, until you have a nervous breakdown. There is nothing wrong with crying, and I also need to use my own advice.

i cry at the persistence of evil in the world.
israel overreacting against lebanon for instance, and killing and maiming innocent people.
yes that does really make me cry.
homeless people, unemployed people, even selfish people who don't care about any of this.
they all make me cry.

If you asked me this a year ago, I'd say "I don't cry." But now, I'm more emotional and cry often about certain things. I guess its just because Ouran HSHC was a really sad show. Anyway, now I cry for all kinds of reasons. One time, my Mom woke me up at like 1 because she thought I was awake, and a big test was tomorrow. I cried for 10 minutes because I was so pissed off. I cry at sad sights, like when long time people got reunited, a sad Ouran episode, the list goes on. At Kandalore once, I started crying for no reason at all, I just had a really bad gut feeling that something was going to happen. Despite I was infront of all my friends, I still did, something I'd never do back in grade 5. I'm so touchy now..XD

I cry when I am sad or really happy like when I saw my favorite star in person or when I become emotionally involved in a moving television show

I didn't used to cry that often.....In the last year I've done it a lot. (Of course none of that has been in public) I just find that some things make me react strongly.....the genocide in Darfur makes me pretty sad and how people seem to always hate each other is strange too. I used to avoid crying with all my will power. That is....until I had a mental breakdown last spring...I think I've learned my lesson. Cry when you need to. It's not shameful. But I still have one question. Why do people cry when others die? I don't understand that. People who believe in some form of an afterlife usually cry too when death happens. The only question I have is why then. You are just going to see them later (according to the belief of an afterlife that is)

Mm, I cry whenever I'm sad about something or someone. I cry whenever I'm upset about something or someone.
The reasoning doesn't have to be oh-so-fancy...as long as that the reason seems legitimate to the person who's crying, then it's all right. No need for others to understand...I mean, yeah, it'd be REALLY NICE to have someone to understand what you're feeling or going through...but...it's all right for that person to not tell others why he/she is crying...XD I mean, I don't tell people why I'm crying...XD in fact, I try not to show too much. *cough*
OR I just cry cuz I'm happy. XD

Chaotic Nitemare Like many people have said before, crying is a healthy way of letting out one's emotions. I, however, rarely cry. I'm not saying that I'm better than anyone, I just don't cry simply because I supress that emotion. I wish that I wouldn't do it, but I've been doing it for years and I suppose I'm just used to it. That's probably why I feel so stressed all of the time.
Thank you! Maybe I'm just dense, but I hadn't pieced together why I cry all the time now and hardly ever did a year ago. It's because my stress level is incredibly higher than it used to be. And yes, sometimes I cry and don't notice until I feel tears on my cheeks.

dboyzero I haven't cried in a very long time, and I can tell you for sure that it's not that great. Crying is a form of release, relieving lots of built up tension and distress. Thanks to social conditioning, I've been building up tension and distress for a few years now. There have been many times I desparately wanted to cry, but found myself physically incapable of doing so. It's my hope that I'll figure something out soon, otherwise I'm afraid I may suffer some sort of nervous breakdown. I had that problem too, and one day, I just started crying after seeing something that reminded me of my grandfather, and for the rest of the night, I was crying. It was a relief to be able to cry.

I cry, when I'm angry...really angry.
Well, often, when I watch movies, I feel with the characters and I start crying too. But this happens less.

[logout] well... i dont cry much but my cousin does...he's quite emotional and i ask him why he cries...he just says does it matter? Nah it doesn't really matter why, unless they're crying over something stupid like getting a B on a test or overreacting... But I cry when I'm overwhelmed, when I feel like a failure, or when I'm just upset. Oh yeah, like SaigonInk, I cry when I'm angry. It's scary as hell, cuz I want to kill something, but I just sit there crying.

I cry when something (an action, a situation, a person, etc.) effects me so deeply that I have to show a bigger form of emotion than what I use everyday such as a smile or frown, silence, or some other form of expression. For me after I cry I feel better. As if I've come to terms with whatever happened or with what I was thinking about. Crying helps me deal with what I'm feeling.
