Fido wasn't sure where he was, but he was only aware that he couldn't see and that it felt like his heart was breaking. He had no doubt that his master was mourning for him somewhere. Where did animals go after death? Would he be seeing Jasper eventually? He already despaired over having to part with him moments ago. How could he handle an eternity apart?"As promised, I shall tell you a way back to life. If you so desire, you shall gain a new body and reunite with him, but only until he no longer needs you."Fido didn't care how long he would stay alive. He wanted to return to his master as soon as possible. "As long as I get back," he replied. "Please. I just want to go back." He received no answer but a flash of light.
Within moments, he felt his skin and limbs stretch. He almost all his fur, bringing about a slight chill. His tail disappeared and left an empty space. The last thing he remembered before losing consciousness again was the feeling of a raggedy mattress under him.

Jasper carried the lifeless shell in his arms all the way across town to the park they were at just yesterday. He found their little secluded park where they would eat by the river and gently laid the body down as he began to dig a hole. Once the hole was big enough Jasper picked up Fido's body and cried against the cold fur without any regard to how loud he was wailing. He knew he needed to let his dog rest in peace but he was reluctant to let him go. After the old dog was buried in the ground it started to rain which was unusual for summer. Jasper began to make his way back home half mindedly, without even a care of being ran over in traffic.

Fido slowly returned to consciousness as the rain fell. Instinctively, he curled himself up and shivered, trying to fluff his fur only to find that there was none there. Sitting up, he examined himself. Fingers, opposable thumbs, furless skin? All memory of his death returned to him. He was alive! Not only that, but human! He was even set down on the mattress at home!
Fido would have been more excited, but the cold rain reminded him that he was completely naked. If he knew anything about humans, it was that they didn't like being so exposed. There should be a cloth or something he could use...
A spare towel was all he could find. Messily tying it around his waist to hide the most secret spots, Fido left the alleyway to look for Jasper. Where could he be around this time? The park?
Upon spotting Jasper walking by, Fido tried to call to him, only to realize he didn't know how to speak. Honking alerted him to danger and Fido could only dash onto the street to prevent Jasper from getting hit by a speeding car.

It all happened so quickly, he saw the lights of the headlights in his eyes and a screech from the tires as he was shoved to the ground. He sat back up again and saw a half naked boy in front of a car on the ground, but it looked like he was just inches away from being hit. Jasper growled and picked the boy up as the owner of the car got out and started yelling and screaming at the pedestrians he nearly ran over. Jasper got the small boy behind a building and sat him down. "You idiot, why did you do that for!?" he said with a concerned voice although he was more angry that this stranger was stupid enough to do something so dangerous.

Fido opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it when he remembered he couldn't form any words. At a loss, he whimpered and looked up at Jasper with guilty eyes.
It was then that he noticed a few tear streaks on the older boy's face. Had he been crying? Speaking of crying, where was Fido's original body? His last memory before dying was being carried to the vet, but Fido himself woke up back home. Jasper's hands were dirty as well. Had he been burying Fido just a while ago?
Fido reached out for Jasper's hands and looked sadly at them. He was burying his only friend and now had no idea that said friend was right in front of him right now. If only they could communicate...

So the boy couldn't talk huh? That wasn't a very good thing when you live on the streets. "Your only a kid..." he said softly, feeling his hands being touched and smacking them away. "Knock it off." he snapped, standing back up and taking off his jacket. "You better cover up...Otherwise you're just asking to be raped." he grumbled, throwing his jacket on top of the boy. "Now get out of here..." Jasper was in no mood for saving any children today, he just buried the only friend he's ever had since he was three. He just wanted to be left alone.

Fido didn't move even after Jasper told him to leave. If he did that, there wouldn't be a point to coming back to life. As the wind blew, Fido tried to cover himself more with the jacket and whimpered, looking up at Jasper with pleading eyes. "You can't resist the puppy eyes!"

Jasper heard the whining and he knew he couldn't leave the boy out here half naked in the rain. He turned to look at the boy and gave a soft sigh, there was something about his eyes that seemed very familiar. "Ugh fine! Come with me, I'll find a shelter for us." he grumbled softly, continuing his walk through the alley. "Keep up though, I'm not gonna wait up for you if you're left behind."

If Fido had his tail, it would be wagging furiously. Happily, he trotted after Jasper. An excited "Waf!" escaped from him as he forgot for a moment that humans weren't supposed to bark. Nonetheless, it was all he could do to communicate his excitement.

The sound stopped Jasper in his tracks long enough to give the small blond boy a confused expression. "Oh great....you escaped from the mental hospital." he grumbled softly, continuing to walk through the darkest part of the city. "Look don't bark in front of everyone, they'll haul you off before you have a chance to call for help." He sighed softly, what was he gonna do with a little kid who sounded like he couldn't hardly talk?? "If you're gonna stick with me then you need to pay your own way, you get your own food, and you find your own place to live. I'm no babysitter and I'm certainly not your father. So don't make the mistake of thinking so." He said sternly, hoping the boy would learn the city's rules quick before he got into much trouble.

Fido simply walked a little faster so that he was walking right beside Jasper. "Uff!" he voiced his acknowledgement in the only way he knew how. If only he was given the knowledge of human language before he woke up, then he could more easily communicate with Jasper! Would he believe him, though, if the stranger he encountered was actually his dog? He looked up at the older boy and pointed at where he had seen the tear streaks. "Uff?"

Jasper looked down at the boy, hearing the strange sounds but didn't give him an answer. He wasn't about to tell this stranger his whole life story. They finally came to his home and for once he was sort of glad to arrive at his soaked mattress behind the dumpster but it wasn't the same without his trusty companion. "Alright you, get out of here." he grumbled at the boy, remaining defensive in case the other decided to fight him for the home.

Fido just tilted his head. "I bet you wouldn't be saying this if you knew I'm Fido," he thought, though he couldn't blame Jasper. An idea suddenly came to his head and he began to shuffle just like he had done during the street performances. Of course, he couldn't spin and chase his tail, but Jasper should recognize the shuffling.

Jasper watched the shuffling but he was anything but amused. He grabbed the boy's jacket and yanked him close. "You think thats funny? I had to bury my dog today you idiot! There's no more dancing shows. Now get out of here!!!" He yelled as he let go of the young boy, causing him to fall to the ground. He probably saw Fido during his street performances. Why did everyone have to mock him like this? He was better off alone.

A yelp flew out as he hit the ground. Fido surely didn't expect Jasper's rage, and it terrified him. Despite it all, he didn't run away. He was at a loss for what to do. How did humans comfort one another? As he continued to wonder, he felt his throat closing up and his vision blurring. He was scared. Jasper had never treated him this coldly before. Of course it would make sense, since Fido was unrecognizable and, in addition to that, he was supposed to be dead, but it hurt all the more.
