Michael didn't know if it was cheating or not, but he was so glad that he had a phone he could use to look up a quick recipe. Something quick and very, very easy. Because had no idea that pumpkin could be made into things besides pie and jack-o-lanterns and he didn't want to let Junior down. Poor guy looked like he needed something good to happen in his life. Fortunately, it looked like there were lots of simple recipes for pumpkins. He found one that involved making bread but he'd actually done that before and it was pretty easy as long as you followed the recipe so he quickly memorized the ingredients and got to work on his pumpkin-garlic knots. He basically just dumped all the ingredients in a bowl and mixed them up, and let the dough rest. After a bit, he rolled out the dough and cut it into long strips, knotted them up and let the dough rest again. "Alright, I'll let you take it from here, Junior. Basically, you bake them until they're golden brown, then brush the tops with oil and garlic. And done. Pretty simple."And letting the other man take over, he went to scrape the flour and bits of dough off his hands. Because...ugh....it was kinda gross.

Maybe there was more going on at the Cooking Festival that he should have been paying attention to, but, unless there was an explosion at some station, Conor really couldn't imagine anything being cooler than what he was currently doing at the oven. Which was the usual action of turning on the stove top and wondering if he had anything to throw into the hungry little flame before anyone noticed and made him have to leave his post. ..The answer was no, Conor didn't have anything he could manage to do that with because Keith had already given him something to do. He frowned and reluctantly turned away from the stove top, though he didn't bother to turn it off because no. No, that was Conor's little buddy down there now and he wasn't going to just throw him away because he had pumpkin seeds to.. did he say burn to a crisp, because Conor can burn things to a crisp.
Conor was happy to burn things to a crisp – oh, <********>, yeah, he was going to burn these little seeds to crisps, ruining any chance the suckers had at growing into the pumpkins their pumpkin mama had hoped them to. The very same pumpkin mama who was being massacred by his hot boyfriend while Conor leaned back over his little fire buddy to start dropping the seeds onto the burner one by one with unabashed glee. They didn't really catch on fire like he hoped, but they did sort of crack and pop a bit, causing the flame to dance and spring back up higher than before. The smell was getting to be a bit gross though so, little flame dude or not, Conor had to try to stop that s**t soon. Thankfully, just as he turned off the burner, Keith had finished with his portion of the meal!
“Burnt to a crisp, dude.” Conor informed him proudly as he motioned to the unlit burner where the multitude of charred seeds remained. But, this was his turn to show he could do something, right? So, Conor didn't wait for instructions before carelessly gathering up the seeds, burning himself more times than he could count as he went up until he had them all and was ready to make the dish present.. able.. It looked pretty good, actually. Conor was disappointed for a moment before shrugging it off and dumping the seeds unceremoniously about the dish, which just so happened to fall in a rather nice pattern of some sort. Hey, for someone who had just dropped burnt pumpkin seeds on a plate, it looked almost perfect!

Mao didn't really understand what had taken Mei so long in the first place to get started with the dish, but he supposed he had to blame her crippled intellect for that one. She really didn't seem to understand what was going on most of the time, which was probably for the best; he wasn't entire sure what scenes in the clinic she may have stumbled upon without his knowledge.. In any case, with a proper amount of thought, it seemed Mei had figured out that Mao wasn't going to lift a finger when it was so much easier to watch her and criticize what she was doing first. Any failure in the dish, of course, would be a result of her incompetence in the kitchen. ….An incompetence that quickly proved to.. somehow not be present..? The man was stunned as he watched her cook as flawless as an average housewife could, doing her work without anything he could really tell her to do better.
Oh, wait. “Pumpkin soup? Did you think of that on your own or did you have some help?” He said in Mandarin with a motion to a few stations over, where the Sonata children were making the same disturbing rendition of the dish, it seemed. “I hope you feel proud of this..” He paused to hover over it, inhaling the smell of.. of delicious pumpkin soup, homemade and classic as if prepared by his own grandmother. ..He frowned and shook his head at Mei in disapproval before moving to try to fix it up. He located one of many hollowed out pumpkins and went to pouring the soup inside a clean one, pausing only to taste the soup and.. spill some of it over the side, but, oh, well, it was Mei's fault for doing so well.

…........What. Did he.. really say that? Vi wasn't sure what to do because, really, who actually said that? ..Someone who must actually believe it, she guessed, which.. which was just stupid because Vi wasn't stupid! She was about to slap or cry or something to make him take it back because that was just not what a guy said to a girl ever, but then the freaking princess had to interrupt the scene and start the festival. Her own intelligence aside, she had a man to impress before he fell into the clutches of someone who was really stupid, like the blonde freak. Maybe she should point out to him that Tshila was actually the stupid one if anyone was stupid, but she had to clean out a pumpkin-- ...ew, no. Maybe grate cheese? Ugh, but then her arms would get tired... She drawled a sigh that hopefully he could hear so he would feel bad ever putting her through all this stress and went to wash her hands, taking her sweet time to do so because maaayyybe he would get frustrated and just do it for her.
Which was actually just what happened! She was just drying her hands when she saw him go about the station without a glance or word to her. It was sort of amazing, actually, watching him go without hurting himself or seemingly mess up or anything. Part of her wondered if he was doing this because of his previous attack on her smarts, but then she didn't really care much about that when Xeiro was over there pulling off his shirt and she forced her mind to focus on watching Seth and not depressing herself with Xeiro and Tshila.
“Really?” She asked as he decided to hand the rest of the work to her, Vi raising her brows in mild surprise, “Are you sure I'm not too stupid to do this?” The question was supposed to be rhetorical, but when she got closer, she honestly wondered if it was really a smart idea to give her any access to something as quality looking as this was. ..Still, it was just crackers, so, she dropped the small pumpkin on a dish and – oh, wow, she hoped that wouldn't crack it. Or it wouldn't crack anymore because it looked the drop did some damage to the gourd. Well, she had crackers to cover up any cracks anyway – no one should care if she just stacked them around the bad spots.

Oh, awesome, she was going to get the appetizer! Baba was getting a little worried after she heard the theme being announced – pumpkins? What could she make with pumpkins? She guessed it was just a theme, so.. maybe she could just make something like a pumpkin. If that was what 'theme' meant – what did that mean again? Baba frowned as she looked at what few stations she could see from where she was standing, trying to figure out if all of them were making pumpkin dishes or.. Yeah, it looked like everyone was just using pumpkins. Damn it. She guessed she would just have to substitute pumpkin with.. pickles and onions or something. But, that would have to be later! For now, she had to try to make Ayaka's cute gyoza look even more presentable! She stared at it for a long moment before reaching down and adjusting one of the gyoza so they would all be facing the left rather than the right.
“...Yes. I finished.”

Jacob smiled broadly after she felt him up and stood back to let Zelynity take over the station, more than happy to watch her go about the kitchen with the same natural talent that every female born was given. ..Or.. or so he had thought, but it turned out that she seemed pretty.. lost? Were those hazelnuts? What exactly was she making? He frowned as he watched her, brow slowly furrowing as he craned his neck to try to see what her expression was after that first bite. But, before he could see the look of panic, Zelynity had turned towards him with such a provocative tone that he couldn't help forgetting about any mistakes she had potentially made in this kitchen. He brushed her hair back with one hand, pausing his hand on her cheek because he should be kissing her right now because she was so asking for it and he really would like nothing better than to drag her back to his place, buuuuut they were competing. And he couldn't let himself stand there making out with Zell.
He let out a dramatic sigh and turned to go try to pretty up the.. dip? Oh, well, he guess he would try. “..Are you free after this?” He said over his shoulder as he tried to spread the chips to go along with it in a, uh, presentable fashion.

Junior had followed along quietly, more focused on how the man had called him, well, man. Like what people on television called their best friends, those guys who had such a strong bond they were willing to take a bullet for one another... Was it because he had.. coworkers now? Would he and Peter be this close if he spoke to him too? ..No, that was getting ahead of himself. He needed to focus on the potential maybe colleague friendship that he and Michael were about to embark on. “...Okay,” He paused and looked over the dough as he gathered up the nerve to say it, “..man.”
He let out a shaky breath and hurriedly turned to put all of his focus on the last few steps. Hopefully he could do a good enough job to impress Michael since the man seemed to really know a lot about cooking to pull out something as nice as this on a moment's notice! Junior could only think of soup when the theme was announced for an appetizer.. When he was finished, he carefully arranged them on a plate in a spiral – people liked curves naturally, didn't they?

Oh? He was supposed to do the cooking? That was okay! John knew how to cook pretty well, he thought. After all, he was the only one who was willing and allowed to cook in the kitchen while his second dad was away on business and dad number one could be a little, uh, demanding on the quality of the food. He still wasn't good enough to make dad happy, but he guessed he could do well enough to make the judges..? Oh, Wayne, he really hoped he didn't ruin this dish, especially when Anna was standing there and watching. He swallowed and nodded his head, trying to smile in a reassuring way before heading off to grab the ingredients. He guessed he could make some cheese balls shaped like pumpkins? Or at least a pumpkin color..
John frowned as he returned to the station and got to work, baking the pine nuts for.. maybe a little too long. They looked a tad over-done, but John guessed he could add extra butter and cheese to cover up any bad flavor..? So, he did just that! He finished stirring up the mixture, adding in some food coloring to give it the right color – he hoped – and rolling the mixture up into individual balls before stepping back. He guessed he should let Anna do something. “I'm sorry, it's your turn. Can you make them look like pumpkins? Sorry, I don't mind doing it, but it's the rules and I don't want the judges to kick you out.” Oh, jeez, was that a bad assumption. “..Not that I think they would – I'm sure they're nice people! I'm sorry, I'll be right here if you need help.”

Brian stood there in complete awe at Matthew. He didn't think the new kid at school would be such a cooking genius! Really, he just thought they could goof off and maybe make something terrible that the judges would have to eat – like, frog eyes or something – but, no, this guy was taking it serious. He tried not to clap when Matthew had finished making.... whatever he was making, it was hard to say, really. Brian's parents didn't really cook much outside of the usual lazy meals – grilled cheese, some pasta, frozen dinners.. – so pumpkin wasn't something he really ate. But he guessed it looked tasty? He would try some, but, then again, Brian wasn't sure if he was allergic to that. Yeah. That's a good reason as any. “Cool, dude! It looks all.. edible! I think we nailed this.” He said as he moved in to finish up the dish, putting it on a plate and trying to arrange it in a way that made it look good. Though all he knew to do was to use a cookie cutter and try to arrange the squares into a couple of pumpkin-shaped piles – which worked out pretty good, for a high schooler who just didn't care!

Gus rose his brows as he heard the theme, but he didn't have any protests. In fact, it felt like something he would like, now that he knew it was edible outside of pie. He wracked his brain for something he could do with pumpkins as he walked to the ingredients table, looking over the stuff with a frown as he tried to find something that could.. aha, pumpkin pie seasoning. He snagged that up real fast, grinning madly at the find that he was sure no one else had thought of! He grabbed a box of cereal nearby and headed on back to their station. “Now, don't get too excited.” Though, he was pretty sure that was already accomplished with the view he gave the other when he walked away. “But, I found us this.” He wagged the seasoning in the other's face before turning to pour a bowl of cereal and douse the Chex in pumpkin pie seasoning. There. Done faster than Juno on a late night 'run'.

When he saw what Gus had in mind for their brilliant cooking plan, Juno let out a strangled gasp as he doubled over with laughter. He struggled to raise a brow in his amusement and chortled out. "Oh, it's too late for that you ******** d**k."
After a moment of trying to ease the laughs out, Juno finally straightened up in order to confess to Gus with all his seriousness. "This. This right here is perfection. You deserve a reward for that, big boy." Said reward involved Juno reaching in.... to the box of condoms, making sure to pull out a big one, before blowing into it. His technique was sloppily executed though because with one fatal move, everyone exploded all over him. "s**t!" He spluttered out when he saw what he had just done. He blew the condom too hard, and now it was in confetti pieces all inside the bowl of Chex.
"Um, I meant to do that. Yeah."

Pumpkin? What kind of theme was pumpkin? Well, it looked like she'd have to figure something out. Was there really such a thing as pumpkin appetizers? The only foods Mitsukai had ever heard involving pumpkin were pumpkin seeds, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin spice lattes. She looked around the festival area for ideas, when she spotted one man using his phone. Oh, was that allowed! Mitsukai quickly followed suit, whipping out her own phone in search of recipes. Nirvani's internet service wasn't the fastest, but somehow she managed to find a nice honey pumpkin spread recipe. Best of all, it didn't require any real cooking!
After giving a quick read over of the recipe she gathered everything she needed at her cooking station. First things first, she pureed the pumpkin, then pouring the goopy mixture into a bowl, mixed it with cream cheese, honey, and some cinnamon. She hadn't paid too much attention to the amounts she needed, but she was sure she was fine. How complicated could a simple spread be?

A pumpkin appetizer? Well in that case, a pumpkin and feta cheese tart it was! She remembered seeing something like that on a cooking show one time, at least, so she knew it was a thing. Now if only she knew the recipe! Not even Elizabeth, as great as she was, could remember a recipe off the top of her head. Like a few of the other contestants, she too took out her phone, in search for instructions. Having known, what she was looking for, it didn't take her long to find it. Still, she wouldn't be afraid to tweak it a bit, she did know best, after all.
Having found her recipe she gathered up what she needed. She chopped and mixed what she needed, and occasionally switched out some items for others. This dish would be perfect! After all the mixing, it was time to fill it into the pie crust and then stick her dish into the oven to bake!

Pumpkin, huh? Well, that sounded doable enough. For the appetizer, Tara quickly decided on pumpkin croissants, a lovely recipe her mother would make in the fall. It was simple enough really, just croissants with pumpkin, honey, and a dash of cinnamon. Paige pre-heated the oven before getting to work on adding and mixing ingredients in the bowl in front of her. She set the bowl aside, and turned to the oven, heating up another set of ingredients. It wasn't especially easy to remember the exact measurements, but she had helped make the rolls so many times, she was almost sure she knew what she was doing, at least she hoped so.
After everything was done heating, she added it to the bowl she had previously set aside, and finished her mixing. Next it was time to roll, cut, and shape the dough! This was the tedious part, she wanted to make sure everything was rolled out nicely! Now that she had finished with the dough, it was time for the final step, putting the dough into the oven. She could only hope she added the proper amounts of everything and that the rolls would come out somewhat nicely.

Now it was time, to make sure everything was on the plate and looked okay. So, the spread looked a little funky, but that shouldn't be too big of a problem. Mitsukai took the pumpkin spread from her mixing bowl and plopped the mess into a smaller serving bowl. She grabbed a nearby plate and grabbed handfuls of vegetables, including carrots, broccoli, and celery, for dipping. Maybe she'd just set the dipping bowl in the middle of the plate? Oh, but then she'd have to move around those vegetables out of the way. Whatever, the dipping bowl could just sit on the side. That looked okay, right? Well, it wasn't like she had much time to make it look any better, so this would have to do!
