"I cannot say." Her eyes flashed for a moment, but it was gone as quickly as it came. "I can sympathize with the longing for a physical form..." She had not experienced itself, but she knew those who had.
"The medium can be nearly anything. Living things are discouraged, however."

"Well, darn I'll have to tough it out then." He was becoming aware of his abilities in small little bits and pieces. "I'm beginning to believe that I just need to focus to be honest." He couldn't be sure exactly and he wasn't exactly sure on how he should test his hypothesis. "Even if it I only require focus would a medium help me?" The thoughts continued to race through his mind, and then the thought of a sparring match came to mind. Though he cast it aside, the thought lingered, Emma had been far more than a worthy opponent but to challenge her would be not only rude but it would destroy whatever amends he had made. "So I take it you know some of the combatants here?"

"A medium could never hurt, but if you have enough focus on your own it becomes unnecessary."
A spar would always be welcome, and would not be taken as a slight or a true attack.
"I know most of them, having fought them many times."

"Well Emma, if you don't mind me calling you buy your first name," He stood letting his eyes flare, "Would you help me test my skill sin a match, after all I'll never know unless I practice."

"Emma is perfectly fine, but call me Em and it'll be 'milady' for the rest of your days." She said, half-jesting as she stood as well, Callandor materializing at her hip.
"I would be glad to spar with you."

"Sorry milady," The Ethereal stood his body beginning to distort, yet instead of beginning to dissipate it began to solidify Blue lines etching themselves through the Ethereal's body. His aura had stabilized and he was now ready for combat.

She noticed the changes in his form, and drew up her power. Violet light flared around her, streaked faintly with silver. "Shall we?"
In one moment, 959 years of experience became quite apparent.

Midnight Ethereal rolled 1 100-sided dice:
89
Total: 89 (1-100)

The Ethereal had a near complete 180 degree shift of persona, he became silent and focused, as if another being completely had taken hold. He held out a hand and let his Aura flood outward into the center of his hand. With a flash of blue luminescence, a bolt of Ethereal energy shot forward towards Emma, in it's wake the air had ionized and crackled with faint sparks of electricity. The air reeked of Ozone mixed with a calming scent of winter air. The ground around him had a shimmering frost covering it as he ceased his attack and waited for Emma's counter.

She sidestepped, maneuvering as easily in finery as she would in proper sparring clothes, the edge of the bolt grazing her hair. Thanking the Gods for elven agility, she loosed a bolt of her own; violet energy coalescing into the form of fire, a concentrated inferno only a handspan in width, shooting straight towards her opponent.

The Ethereal had enough time to react as a torrent of Energy washed over him providing a shield, however considering his inexperience his shield shattered at Emma's attack. The Ethereal however was still standing and in the midst of the dissipating flame he called forth a wave of Ethereal force and sent it at Emma, the wave writhed as a thrashing snake's body would and it twisted and turned its way towards Emma.

She did not dodge this time. Contrary to most schools of thought, she let the wave crash over her, but cast her will out towards the energy. She would not be harmed, her wards would see to that, and after centuries of practice her will was iron.

The Ethereal's eyes narrowed, it's ancient powers stretching outwards, it stood upright and gave an ancient salute simliar to how monks would bow with their arms folded inward, however instead of letting his hands meet he kept them separate and allowed a pulse of blue flame to form in the center his palms. After the ancient salute he immediately fired forth a lance of crystal blue energy. The lance shimmered as it traveled to collide with Emma's wards and as it moved the ground and air around it chilled and began to frost.

She welcomed the chill that the frost brought to the air, drawing in the frozen particles from the air around her. She ducked the lance, realizing her timing was a a little off as the energy tore through her shoulder. A painful wound, but not fatal. Her hands were held a few inches apart, and a frozen sphere formed between them, crackling with her own energies, she whispered something in her native tongue (Old English), and let her creation fly.

The Ethereal was still recovering from the frost discharge when Emma's collided with his own body. It was the first time he felt pain, and boy was it excruciating. His aura began to freeze over and his focus had broken with the sudden jolt of freezing pain. His body cold and now his limbs stiff, he fell over as his aura lines faded and his eyes became a placid blue. "Oh wow." He chuckled as his body attempted to regain feeling "I assume I lost?"

"So you did." She muttered, placing a hand over her bleeding shoulder, healing it with as little pain as she could manage. The spell she had placed on him would wear off in a few minutes, but she would let it run its course before that time.
