Her pout deepened a bit, and she crossed her arms. The teen chose to ignore his comment about trying to explain and focused on the far more offensive one. "I am not cute."

Zakiel groaned and ran his hooves through his dark mane. Would there ever be an end to this physical discomfort? He shook his head, trying to clear the images that that thought had brought to mind. "Crimson Dawn...I am no saint...child or no...that pout calls to me to kiss it away...Do not make me break a promise to you..." There was a small pleading tone in the last part, and he kicked himself mentally for showing weakness.

She considered pouting just to be contrary. Crimson Dawn did not like to be told what to do. She also didn't like being threatened, and that was what it sounded like he was doing. If she chose to ignore the pleading note, which she did. Then again, she had seen just how scary he could be...
"You've made a lot of promises," she mumbled, wondering which one he was in danger of breaking.

Zakiel moved to to stand next to her, his lips inches away from her warm neck. "And I can make many more. But I will always regret the vow that I made to myself and you to leave you be while you were still growing. Can you not feel how badly I need you, Crimson Dawn?"

The young pony froze when he moved to stand next to her. He was so much bigger than she was, and way too close. Normally, Crimson Dawn's first instinct would have been to kick him and protect her personal bubble. But she couldn't move. She could barely breathe. He was way too close, way too warm...
"Um, no?" she squeaked, staring up at him, her red eyes just a bit too wide.

Zakiel shook with the effort to remove himself from next to her, turning his back to her in an effort to collect himself. "If you ever thought to leave, now would be an excellent time...I shall speak to you again soon, Minan Ainaak."

"Who..." Crimson Dawn bit down on her tongue, cutting off her own question. She forced herself to take several steps away from him, mentally berating herself. He was giving her a chance to escape. She'd be an idiot if she didn't take him up on it, and Crimson Dawn was not an idiot. She turned on her heel and took three running steps before remembering to spread her wings and launch herself into the air.
She left Zakiel behind, hoping she would never see him again. And wondering if he really did keep his promises.

Zakiel growled low and beat a hoof into the ground, causing a small crater-like hole underneath of it. Why him? Why now? His heart screamed at him to follow her, to make sure she was safe and being well cared for. And then there was the inner beast, which growled in frustration at being denied its mate. Another moody growl before he shifted into a wolf and lopped off in the opposite direction that Crimson Dawn went in. As much as he wanted to be with her, right now he needed to be as far away from her as possible.

All it took was a few minutes of flying before Crimson Dawn was able to calm her trembling heart. A little longer, and she was laughing at herself for being so nervous around a total stranger. He was clearly a loon. She would probably never see him again. Maybe he was terrorizing some other girl now that she was out of his sight. Yeah, she was sure of it.
She veered in the air and decided that she wasn't going to let one wacko ruin her evening. Crimson Dawn made a bee line for the mall and spent several long hours, happily shopping and flirting with the helpers, Zakiel's warnings forgotten. By the time she headed home, her arms were full with bags of things she really didn't need, and she was a happy girl.

Zakiel diligently kept his distance from his lifemate over the next three days, each one growing harder and harder to handle without some thought of her. On the fourth day, it was too much. He set out to look for her.

After four days without seeing him again, Crimson Dawn had well and thoroughly convinced herself that he had been delusional and that she had nothing to be concerned about. At first this had annoyed her. She didn't really like it when people made promises they didn't keep, even if they were unbalanced. She got over it, though. Mostly by shopping and... on the fourth night, taking a leisurely walk in the dark forests of Nightmare Valley where she called home.

Zakiel lurked in the woods, searching for any trace of her he could use to track her. He smiled when the bright red of her markings appeared in the corner of his eyes and glided over to meet her. "I told you I would speak with you again, minan ainaak."

She jumped at the sound of his voice and spun to face him, wide eyed. "Holy... where... how... I thought..." she stammered, all her questions trying to bubble out at once.

"I came from the woods, I was looking for you. I am at home in the night and am part of it. I can move without being noticed, and evidently did so here. And I told you I would talk with you again. And I keep my promises." He smiled and held a branch up for her to walk under.
