Whatever reply he had for the woman was gone as he ducked instinctively to dodge a bullet that had been diverted. Two empty clicks assured him that the gun was indeed empty, a revelation that would have made him happily amused if it hadn't been for the fact that the woman lunged at him still intent on killing him. Eyes widening he yelped bolting away from where he leaned against the wall and away from the homocidal woman. At one point he'd very nearly stepped on Twilight's tail in his mad dash to a more open area and mentally he heard the wolf growl. He'd deal with the wolf's snapping later, assuming Calla didn't catch and strangle him first.

Tail swaying, Twilight's hackles rose as she heard the gun go off again and she rose a growl rising in her throat though the moment she saw the gun fall in front of her. Tilting her head at the object for a moment she soon chuckled sitting back down. "At least they're on even ground now." She said though her words ending in a snarl as Alister almost stepped on her tail. She'd snap at him later.

Calla wasn’t stupid. It was only logical the man would make a break for it the minutes she dropped the gun, the minute his life wasn’t in immediate danger. And he only had one route to go. Calla pushed off the wall and jumped, she felt herself slam into Alister, knocking him to the ground. With a hand to his throat she shudder slightly. Contrasting images paired with images of the past month danced through her mind. Maybe, maybe she could give him a chance? He had proved his usefulness, at least, maybe he deserved a chance. Every inch of her wanted her to just snap his neck then and there, she was quite capable, but something else stopped her. Something that she didn’t understand prevented her.
Calla snorted, she would show him civility. She wouldn’t stoop to his level, she would show him mercy. He didn’t deserve it, and she would reserve the right to kill him when she pleased.
Three reasons I shouldn’t kill you.” She hissed in his ear, anger obvious as she loosened her grip on his neck just enough for him to talk. If his reasons were good enough she might let him live, if he swore to never hurt it she might give him a chance. A week, a month, however long it took for her to be proven right in the end. Then she would kill him, but…she just might let him live a little bit longer.

WoodWhisp almost laughed as Calla shoved him to the ground. Just because she was pregnant didn’t mean she was down and out yet. But something in her was slipping, the mental blockade was starting to chip and crumble, he was getting a closer look at her mind now. Yes, she was going to give him a chance at least. That was enough to soothe him. WoodWhisp smiled as he curled next to Twilight to watch the two of them. The real question now was when was she going to notice he was bleeding?
"This is going to be entertaining." WoodWhisp said with a chuckle.

Momentary freedom cut short as he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder and the wind was knocked from his lungs. Coughing and trying to regain some sort of oxygen even with the woman's hand around his throat, he winced. He was going to be black and blue all over by tonight and oh so sore as well. Though that was a minor concern as his brain finally registered that one, he was once again trapped and two, Calla could still kill him.

Coughing again he shuddered listening to Calla's request. Three reasons why should live. Shuddering again he Licked his lips trying to focus. Three simple reasons why she shouldn't snap his neck. "I won't harm you or your child, I'm useful and you really don't want to kill me...?" Quite possibly not the best arguement for his life but it was better than nothing.

Forepaws crossed Twilight gave a soft snorting laugh tilting her head at WoodWhisp for a moment before grinning. "Very entertaining." Smirking in wicked amusement Twilight's tongue lolled out as she stiffled a laugh. Really she should feel sorry for Alister but...she didn't.

Calla didn’t say anything. She was exhausted and drained, emotionally and physically. She hadn’t managed to get any sleep for a few days now and it was miracle she hadn’t passed out on the job yet. She had been pushing herself harder than usual, trying to keep herself distracted. With a sigh she rolled to the ground beside him, closing her eyes she forced herself to inhale and exhale slowly. She was making a mistake, she knew she was. But he was right, as much as she hated to admit it, part of her didn’t really want to kill him. She felt the adrenaline drain from her system and WoodWhisp’s comforting presence in her mind again. She could tell he was irritated that she had blocked him out, even though she hadn’t really meant to. She also knew it was him who had taken her gun, but she would deal with that later.
I already app-“ Calla started to speak as soon as she felt she could trust her voice again, the anger had drained from her tone leaving it was hollow and raspy, she turned her head towards Alister as she opened her eyes. Her words cut off as she found herself face to face with blood. The implications didn’t really grasp on at first, nothing could really grasp on to her mind right now.
Alister, did you know that you’re bleeding?” she asked, to her it didn’t really seem like a stupid question. She didn’t really remember her previous actions, just a blur of anger and the burning need to kill him, the irritation at his little games, the conflicting thoughts that still fought for space in her mind.

And there she goes. WoodWhisp held back laughter as Calla finally noticed Alister’s injury.I think you’ll find this rather entertaining. WoodWhisp pointed out, a grin spreading quickly across his face, Maybe even revenge enough for stepping on your tail. Indeed, another part of Calla’s past was just about to come into play. Calla hadn’t been all that certain she would Bond, so she had made a point to start thinking about life after the Academy if she didn’t. She’d spent countless nights studying up on a different profession that would still keep her in the Forts.

Drawing in a shuddering breath he stayed still for a moment trying to assess the damage done to his person. Numerous bruises that he really didn't want to think about and of course there were the bullet wounds along his left arm. Speaking of which...a slight shift of his shoulder dragged a hiss of pain from him and he reached up closing his free hand over the wound to stem the bleeding.

Tilting his head he shot Calla a look giving a slight growl of annoyance. "Why yes I do. After all you shot me." Sitting up slowly he flexed his arm to make certain he still had full use of the limb. True every movement sent another spasm of pain through his shoulder but at the very least he knew his arm wasn't broken or unusable. "Granted I've been through worst."

Yawning again Twilight settled her head on her paws snorting softly. "She can have her fun~ I'll get my revenge for him stepping on my tail later." the she-wolf's voice held an unusually cheery tone as she considered the various ways of exacting her revenge on the human. She could bite him but he'd lost more than enough blood in her opinion which left her to consider other means of torture. Flicking her tail she chuckled. "I take this shall be a most interesting few months, no?"

Alister hadn’t even finished talking when Calla had jumped up. Balanced on the balls of her heels she pried his hand away and examined the wound.
I don’t see an exit wound which means the bullet is still lodged in there.” Calla muttered, pulling his arm closer, “That bullet is probably all that’s stopped you from bleeding to death! Trying to run with an arm like that, you could have killed yourself! What good would you be then?” She was reaching into her uniform now, from and inside pocket she pulled out a Stiletto dagger and from another pocket a set of forceps. “Either way it’s got to come out quickly. Take off your shirt.” Calla glared at him, obvious that he wasn’t going to get a choice in this. That had to come out and soon, otherwise if he kept moving it then it would only burrow in deeper and slice through the artery. All of Calla’s studies came rushing back to her, nights spent pouring over medical texts, free time spent in the Infirmary doing anything she could to help and observe. Had Calla not bonded she intended to become a doctor, work in the forts, help the WolfRiders in any way she could. But she had been lucky enough to bond to WoodWhisp, but she had continued her studies. A minor hobby now, but still she collected various medical texts when she could, and she found her skills useful in the field.
Come on, shirt off!” She snapped, poking gently at the flesh around the wound trying to judge just how deeply in the bullet had lodged itself. Snorting she turned her attention to the sky, “WOULD IT KILL YOU FOR A LITTLE RAIN HERE!” She shouted, her only response was another roll of thunder.

Oh she’ll be having fun indeed. WoodWhisp snickered, draping his tail over Twilight as he watched. But I doubt he will. WoodWhisp chuckled as he picked up her command about the shirt. Oh yes, he would put up a fight if she didn’t try to sit on him again to keep him from moving. Just as he thought it he felt the same idea go through her mind briefly. Yes, that’s what she would resort to if he didn’t just cooperate with her. WoodWhisp just sighed and laid his own head down.
Oh yes, a very nice nine months indeed. WoodWhisp agreed, Sorry I haven’t been able to get up here lately. I’ve been worried about what she would do if I left. How have you been? He asked, turning his attention back to Twilight. He had truly been sorry he hadn’t been able to come see her, but as today had proven Calla’s mentality was to be questioned, he had to keep a close eye on her.

Each poke and prod drew a hiss of pain from Alister and at one point very nearly gave into the tempation to bite the woman. Of course such actions while satisfactory for a moment or two wouldn't particularly work in his favor, as such he settled for glaring at her. "Bleeding to death might have well been better than getting strangled." Alister hissed attempting to scoot away from the woman as he eyed the stiletto and forceps warily. Whoever had allowed Calla to keep not only two guns but also a dagger needed to have their mental state evaluated. The woman was dangerous enough as is, taking the guns and dagger into consideration Calla was best avoided.

Barely stifling another hiss as pain shot up his arm again he sighed weighing his options. Ignore Calla and bleed to death and save himself anymore torture at the woman's hands or let her poke around his shoulder in an attempt to cut the bullet out. While the former sounded appealing he had his doubts that he'd be allowed to carry through with such a plan. Which just left him with the latter. Well if that was his only option he was going to be stubborn about it in the least.

Growling at the next series of pokes he considered revisiting his previous plan of simply biting her. Once again that plan fell through. Hearing the shout he sighed again. Maybe he should have listened to Twilight's advice over the years, if he had he wouldn't be stuck with this mad woman.

Grinning at what seemed to be the beginning of another battle, Twilight snorted ears pricked forward as she eyed the humans. "Of course he won't~ Nothing short of sitting on him or tying him up is going to keep him still." A soft chuckle escaped her as she picked up on the thoughts about biting the woman. "He's considering biting her." there was more than a faint hint of amusement lingering in her voice and she stifled another laugh at her rider's final realization. Oh she was going to have so much fun taunting him later.

Tilting her head at the other wolf she snorted softly. "That's understandable...no need to apologize. Alister has been more than keeping me busy." she said with a shrug stifling a yawn. "And what have you been up to besides keeping an eye on your deranged rider?"

Calla smiled and had to resist from snorting, “You actually thought I was trying to strangle you?” she chuckled and shook her head, “Oh Alister, I wasn’t going to strangle you, I was going to break your neck.” She clarified, smiling as she returned to her examination. She should be able to get it out without causing much further damage. Part of her wanted for force it in deeper, let it slice open the artery and let him bleed out. But she shoved that voice back. She would stick to her word so long as he stuck to his. And as much as she doubted that would last long she would wait for him to break it first.
And I will go back to breaking your neck if you don’t take your shirt off.” Calla glared back at him briefly, “It’s either that or your pants. Make your choice or I will remove them for you.” She slid the dagger out of it’s sheath and rubbed it across her shirt briefly. It vaguely crossed her mind as to why she hadn’t drawn it on him earlier, but decided that breaking his neck simply sounded like much more fun. “Or I could use my shirt and just let you explain why a shirtless woman is dragging you to the infirmary. It’s up to you really.” When it came down to it Calla really didn’t have that many qualms with either situation, so long as she got the bullet out and most of the bleeding to stop she wasn’t going to be picky.

I would like to see Calla bite Alister. WoodWhisp laughed, I doubt she would handle that well. Especially right now. WoodWhisp shook his head before laying back down on Twilight’s shoulder. He thought back on the last few weeks, the chaos and anger. Distraction, fear, endless nights spent awake, pacing and worrying despite her attempts to exhaust herself during the day. WoodWhisp reminded her that if she planned on keeping that child she would have to take care of herself. She had not taken that well, of course she intended to keep the child! She had already applied for the transfer to White Shadow. Just because she had to kill Alister didn’t mean she couldn’t honor it as his child.
I haven’t actually been able to get much done. She’s been more of a handful than usual. I was lucky to even get any sleep. WoodWhisp yawned as he spoke, usually he at least got to sleep at night, Calla was known for sleeping like a rock after all.

Alister. Bite me and see what happens.” Calla growled, picking up the thought from WoodWhisp. Her patience was already starting to run thin with him again. If he would just cooperate she could have had the bullet out by now and gotten him up and to the infirmary. But instead he insisted on laying here resisting her, determined to die from blood loss it seemed. “I get to decide when you die Alister. And it’s not going to be now! So just cooperate please!” She was starting to get exasperated, here she was making a vague attempt to make up for shooting him in the arm and he wanted to go and make a fight out of it.

"Ah that makes me feel so much better now." Alister's voice was dripping with sarcasm as he eyed the dagger again. To comply or not to comply. On a regular basis he would settle for not complying but after that little display and his current injuries he really didn't doubt that Calla was fully capable and willing to snap his neck still. Scowling at the woman as she outlined the rest of his options, he finally huffed reaching up to begin unbuttoning the collar of the blood soaked shirt. Each shift sent another twinge through his shoulder and he merely ground his teeth in an attempt to ignore the pain. A few more buttons and then to peel the sticky fabric from his arm without causing himself more pain. Easier said than done however.

Hearing the woman's last comment he shot a dark glare at the grinning black wolf. He was going to have Twilight's furry hide on a silver platter one of these days. Hearing the wolf laughing both mentally and verbally he barely stifled a growl of annoyance. "No you don't." huffing in slight annoyance, he began to cautiously peel the shirt off.

Snorting softly she eyed WoodWhisp for a moment before shifting to tug on his ear lightly. "They'll work their problems out." She said growling softly in amusement. Alister was annoyed with her, but that was to be expected considering she'd taken to sharing his plans with WoodWhisp. Flicking her tail a bit she shook her head yawning with the motion. "I swear they're going to run us into the ground by the time this is over...amusing or not." Sleep had always been a foreign concept for her in the winter since it was either freeze to death outside or suffer inside with Alister pacing back and forth or popping up at random hours of the night. True she'd learned to live with it but in the past month or so, it had gotten unbearable, even with numerous threats to chew part of his leg off it hadn't gotten much better.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:50 pm

Calla tapper her fingers on the blade impatiently, “It’s only going to hurt more if you peel it away slowly.” Calla pointed out, she was trying to be patient, she really was. But that just didn’t fall under her area of expertise. Eventually her impatience won out as he started to pull the shirt away. Grabbing it she tore it away, pulling it away from the wound quickly. When she was done she’d have to buy him a new one anyway, she was about to rip this one to pieces. Quickly she set about tearing strips from the shirt, cutting off buttons with the Dagger as she came to them. As such she made short work on the shirt, tying one strip tightly above the wound to slow the blood flow.
Hey Alister,” Calla had always had to talk while she worked or she found herself making stupid mistakes, “Why do you hate your family?” She realized now as not the time, considering she was trying to get a bullet out of his arm and had just been trying to kill him, but it was the first thing to come out of her mouth. As she spoke she had the stiletto in hand, carefully she inserted the long thin blade into the wound to test the dept and to pull aside skin and muscle. Yes, it probably hurt, but the bullet had to come out anyway, if it stayed in and she tried to move him to the infirmary it should just tear the artery more and he would probably bleed to death. As such it was surprising he hadn’t yet. With great care she switched hands, using her off hand to hold the dagger steady to keep the wound open, the other held the forceps. Biting her tongue she slid the instruments into the wound, trying not to brush against skin and muscle as she did so.

WoodWhisp smiled as she tugged on his year, stretching out his legs as he watched. We can only hope, we can only hope. He spoke sarcastically, considering how Calla was right now he wasn’t so sure this would all end well. But he would hope, maybe, just maybe, having the kid would calm both of them down. As much as he doubted it he could hope, couldn’t he?
You’re not sleeping much? WoodWhisp asked, immediately worried about her, but he could also understand not being able to sleep with someone like Alister around. WoodWhisp did not imagine him as a heavy sleeper, Well, Calla has already applied to transfer to White Shadow. As the conditions are I doubt she will be rejected. When we move down here you can sleep with me, Calla sleeps like a rock. WoodWhisp snorted, having already decided this. He would tell Twilight the same thing he told Calla, she needed her rest. And anyway, he would have absolutely no problem sharing his den with her.

Wincing as the shirt tore at his already sore shoulder, Alister merely hissed opting to ignore Calla for now. Ignoring her would have worked had it not been for the fact that he could feel the dagger slipping into the wound and generally causing him more pain than before. Another hiss escaped him despite his best attempts at stifling the sound. Then the woman's question drifted to him and he barely suppressed a growl.

"I do believe we've been through this before." The subject of his family had never been something he cared to talk about, in this situation those...people were the last things he wanted to think about. Still he would...humor her for the most part, if only to find a way to ignore the pain darting through his arm and shoulder.

Snorting softly Twilight's tail swayed slowly and she stretched arching her back as she did so. Settling back down even as her claws flexed for a moment before she relaxed again. "It's impossible to sleep with Alister pacing or popping up at random hours. It's been getting worst in the past month or so." She shrugged before smirking a bit. "Hrm...Alister isn't going to like that bit of news one bit though." The thought amused her and it was clear in her voice. "I shall gladly take you up on that offer if only for a week." Tail swaying slowly she yawned again. True she could live on very little sleep but after a few weeks straight of not getting more than a few hours sleep it was starting to wear on her reserves.

Calla thought about it, had they discussed it before? Not to her memory they hadn’t, and she was certain she wasn’t that oblivious.
I don’t think we have Alister. I find myself here knowing surprisingly little about you.” Calla pointed out, sparing a glance at him before returning to her work. She found that thought slightly disturbing actually, the fact that she actually knew so little about the father of her child. Yes, her child. He would have to earn that acknowledgment, which she doubted he would even care. Beneath her loosely tucked uniform she was already beginning to show, she could already tell this was going to be a very long nine months. Part of her still refused to admit that for some of that she would be forced to give up her WolfRider duties, she had no idea what she would do with herself when that day came.
As thunder rumbled again she forced these thoughts from her head and returned her focus to the wound at hand. She felt more than saw the pressure on the forceps meaning she had come in contact with the bullet. With so little light she was forced to function on touch more than sound as she grasped hold of the lead and began to tug it lightly. It had lodged itself in rather nicely, close to the artery. She would have to be very careful about pulling this out without causing and further damage.

WoodWhisp smiled,Yes, I highly doubt Alister will like that. The thought amused him almost as much as Twilight. Calla would, in some hormonal rage, put a gun to his head, again, to make him change his mind. Oh yes, Alister was not going to be getting much peace after the transfer. He could feel the thoughts forming in the back of Calla’s head already, if she was going to let him live she was going to force him to be a father.
Stay as long as you wish Twilight. I’m in no hurry to see you go.WoodWhisp was actually rather glad about the transfer. Being able to see Twilight as often as he pleased, not having to sneak away or have Calla always attempting to talk him into a visit. And he would probably get more rest at that.

"I can say the same for you." Shifting uncomfortably at the slight pulling sensation he stifled a slight groan. Removing bullets had always been an uncomfortable task with fully trained doctors, this situation was making that uncomfortable feeling worst even with everything he was trying to do to distract himself from the occasional twinges of pain. Swallowing Alister forced his thoughts away from the injury and back to the conversation. Anything was better than thinking about the thing lodged in his shoulder.

"And I don't hate all of my family...just most of them." He would have shrugged had it not been for the fact that his arm both refused to move and didn't need to be moved. Most of his family annoyed his eternal soul, the rest...he could careless about. But his overly bratty cousin that had died last winter, she was an exception.

Chuckling Twilight's tail swayed and she grinned tilting her head at WoodWhisp again. "He's going to be a nightmare to live with you know." Even with that knowledge she still couldn't help but laugh. Oh yes, Alister would be hiding out in his room more and more once that transfer went through. Chuckling again in amusement, she merely gave an amused growl. "I do think I'm going to loathe having to leave at any given point." It was true, a chance to get some sleep without hearing her rider pacing back and forth all night, and a chance to see WoodWhisp whenever she wanted? Ah if only transfers happened overnight.

Welcome to the club.” Calla muttered under her breath, never once pausing. Alister, foolish, naïve little Alister. He was lucky, he knew his family, he could see them whenever he pleased. And he resented that. Calla resisted the urge to shoot him again for his stupidity. She would never know her parents, know where she came from, she would never get to meet her family. Alister was lucky, where he realized it or not. “Except for your cousin?” Calla questioned, moving on as if she hadn’t heard his first statement at all. She had never informed anyone of her lack of memory, and never intended to. Alister was no different in that regards. She had let him live as it was, he was on thin ice and in no position to go on questioning her anyway. Calla reached for what had once been Alister’s shirt as she pulled the bullet free and immediately set to stemming the blood flow. Her attempts to slow the blood were about as effective as trying to catch raindrops in a strainer. As soon as she got a new layer tied on in started to bleed through.

Calla isn’t looking so forward to it herself. WoodWhisp chuckled, But mostly she’s in denial right now. WoodWhisp pointed out with a sigh. Oh yes, once the whole thing sunk in and the transfer was complete, Alister was going to hear about it. And being in the same for it was going to be harder for him to hide than it usually was. WoodWhisp could vouch for that, the woman was harder to avoid than a bloodhound. Then don’t leave. WoodWhisp suggested, Calla’s grown rather fond of you for having to put up with Alister, she certainly wouldn’t send you back to that. WoodWhisp realized this was very unlikely but he could get hopeful. Calla was rather fond of Twilight, and living with Alister the wolf had easily earned her respect. And of course WoodWhisp would never have her leave.

Wincing slightly Alister let out a slow breath before relaxing a bit. "Yes that brat. As for the rest..." He gave a soft snort at the thought. Oh yes, he could well remember the last time he'd 'visited' his family. He wouldn't have done it if it hadn't been Ana's funeral, if it hadn't been for the fact that he actually liked the girl he wouldn't gone anywhere near those people. Alas such matters were in the past, and as such there was no need to dwell on it. After all he still had that oh so lovely bullet wound to worry about. Sparing a glance at his shoulder he looked away. The bullet was out, and he was starting to bleed out. Which would explain why he was beginning to feel light headed.

"I can't imagine why." Twilight said with an almost purring growl as she began to rise and stretch lazily. An amusing nine months indeed. Though, she gave another stretch feeling her back bones slip into place, Alister would have to find new hiding places considering Calla would be in the same fort and would have no trouble finding him. Letting out a soft sigh she shook her head. "You tempt me so." she said with an amused grin padding toward the humans and circling for a moment.

That needs stitches. she purred at Alister mentally and heard the agitated growl in reply. He knew she was right, and he was denying it. She was going to have so much fun rubbing his face in this one later.
