Pack the cracks, Serenity reminded him. But you're doing fine.

I don't doubt that.
Daemon knew that even making snow fort out of fun wore away people.

Gion packed the cracks as well as he could, then circled the shelter, examining it.
It looks like an egg, he chuckled, sheathing the sword again and crawling inside.

Does it?
Daemon asked.
That would be interesting to see.

As it should, Serenity replied, amused. Now dry yourself off so you don't freeze.
She hopped off his shoulder and curled up by one wall so that she wouldn't take up too much room - although, she had to admit, she was impressed with how big Gion had managed to make it.

Gion grinned and 'showed' Daemon the shelter he had built, taking off his shirt and mopping up his sweat. He put on a fresh shirt and stuffed the dirty one into his bag, then took out his blanket and pulled it over his shoulders.
It's warm in here, he thought happily.

It's keeping the heat in.
Daemon replied glad that Gion would have a good safe place to stay.

Gion curled up in a ball and got comfortable, then pulled some food out of his pack and started eating. He looked at his mother to see what she would do - after all, she needed food as well ... he held out a piece of wrapped waybread to her.

Serenity reverted to her own form and accepted the waybread thankfully, smiling at Gion. It felt awkward to speak to him when she knew he couldn't speak back, so she refrained from saying anything at all.
She ate the waybread as it was, without unwrapping it. Hunger was an incredible force ...
Once it was gone, she smiled at Gion.
"Thank you," she murmured. "Now rest ... I'll keep watch."

Gion nodded and curled up again, then yawned.
Good night, Daemon, he thought, closing his eyes.

Good night.
Daemon replied softly as he could with his mind. He was kind of getting the hang of this thought speak.

Serenity changed into a furry ermine and slipped around Gion's neck. The shelter, while quite sizable, was far too small for a moor cat - and taking the form she did was the next best way to keep him warm.

Two weeks later, the snow was still higher and despite the quality of the sleep he had been getting, Gion was exhausted. His first thought as he entered the valley was, We're here!
But that was quickly replaced with, Where are the houses?
He looked around. He could see some smoke ... but ... that was it. He headed towards it.
What do you think, Daemon? he asked, 'showing' Daemon what he saw: an endless expanse of white, with nearly invisible smoke rising seemingly from a snowbank.

As your mother if it's possible for the house to be buried in snow.
Daemon suggested.
It snowed quite a lot in the two weeks, if you don't shove out it'll bury the house, not like I can see the reason for evey shoving since all the roads would have been buried in snow anyhow.

Roads? Serenity repeated, and her laughter emanated through her thoughts to both of the others. There are no roads here ... and yes it's more than possible for their houses to be buried. So, onward to the smoke we go!
She was once again a kitten riding on Gion's shoulder - she had discovered that it was rather comfortable.
