"He loves it up there," Toby said with a nod, "and good! Dari'll likely be my Best Man but I'd definitely like to have you there." They were family, after all.

Cody smiled again. "I'll be there," he assured him. "Want to put this tray in? Or both at the same time?"

"They'll both fit," Toby said, swapping out the full tray for the empty one. "I bake when I'm stressed. I didn't always eat it, though. So many pies went to waste."

"I draw when I'm stressed," Cody offered, with a grin. "I always end up throwing everything away. Poor trees." He started filling the second tray.

"You're an artist too? I didn't know you drew!" Toby said, and then resolved with a long "ohhh."
"You're who drew those un-Dari-like sketches, aren't you. You're pretty good! I couldn't draw a person if my life depended on it."

"I don't think I'm an artist.... It's just a hobby." He smiled then. "Yeah. His style's realistic and lovely. Mine is cartoony. Thanks!" He offered Toby the full tray. "Now we wait," he said.

"Dari says that too," Toby said with a shake of his head. He opened the preheated oven and tucked both trays inside, double-checked the time, and set the timer. He turned to Cody and went to wash his hands in the sink.
"Yup. I'll have to save some of these for when Dari and Maia get back."

"Dari's modest. I think his paintings could be put up in museums. He's incredibly talented." He followed Toby to the sink and followed suit, washing his hands.
"When are they coming back?" he asked.

"I think so too," Toby said. He dried his hands with the towel hanging from the oven handle while Cody washed his own hands.
"They're out until Monday, then they'll be back. I think they're coming back in the evening? The itinerary's there on the refrigerator."

Cody nodded. Monday sounded good, they'd be going back to work Tuesday morning. "We could always make more," he suggested, smiling at Toby. "What do you want to do while the cookies bake?"

Toby pursed his lips and looked around the house with his hands on his hips. Huh.
"The cat's pretty un-harrassable. Do you like video games? Or do you want to leave a surprise for Dari in the basement maybe?"

"I play video games. Do you have any two player?" he asked. "I'm no good with Xbox controls. You'll have an advantage."

"We do indeed. They're hard to find, apparently." Toby motioned for Cody to follow. "Don't worry, I'm no master. It's Dari who'd beat your butt."
Well...
"Actually he'd probably let you win."

There was one day a year when everyone was told to expect an outage or odd computer errors, and to keep an eye out for flying objects. A great number of employees took the day off, and the workers in the cafeteria were allowed to stay home as if it were a holiday. The managers and medical staff had to be around, of course, and the tenants had no real choice, but a few was better than all.
It was about 12pm when all of the lights went out in HQ. The filters in the pools went off as well, but the fridges kept running and power to the computers remained. Out in Research, Lori sighed as a string of random letters began to fill the document he had been reading over, regardless of he fact that it was read-only. The poor guy couldn't help it, Lori knew that. They'd all just have to wait it out.

The lights had startled the resident kelpie more than Kevin would've liked to admit. He was unseelie! That apparently didn't mean He wasn't startled by the lights suddenly going out. He made a beeline for Research.
"Lori?" he called.
