"We could play a game," Dari said with a little nod. He had all sorts. His personal computer was a bit of a beast but it entertained him while everyone else slept at the very least. Of course human 'gaming' was something of a violent cluster of bullets and boobs so board games might be safer at the moment.

"I brought my computer if you want to play against each other on Pogo or something."

Dari turned to Maia. "It's board games, but on the computer."

"We don't really have long, Toby said it only takes a few minutes." And she was eager to help with making the pasta. "Board games on a computer?" That had her interest. "How does that work? Do they have checkers?" Toby must have been tired of his suit: Maia had thought he seemed more comfortable in casual clothes, at least at the beach.

"Earlier you were speaking in code on the phone. Do you think we could make one?"

"You're on one computer and another person is on another, and through the internet you can play against each other. Or you can play on one computer and just take turns, and yes, I do believe they have checkers." Dari rose to take out his computer for later and was a little surprised by Maia's question. Could they make one what? "A code?" he asked.

Toby emerged in sleep pants and a t-shirt, ready to be done with being any sort of responsible adult for the rest of the evening. He came out of the bedroom and made his way to the kitchen. The water was only almost boiling. "What's this about a code?"

Maia looked up when Toby emerged. "You look much more comfortable," she commented. "Dari and I are making a code. Do you want to make one with me too?" She looked towards the kitchen. "Is it ready yet?" She asked.

"Not yet," Toby offered, "Just a few more minutes. Why would we need a code? My head's already full of keywords, I'm not sure I could remember any more." At times Maia seemed rather childish, although he supposed growing up alone with only children as companions could do that to a person.

Dari just shrugged. He wasn't sure why they needed a code either.

The boys weren't going for it. Ah well. "For fun," she said. "Maybe I could learn an already established one. Not one of yours," she added, "Yours seem complicated. But I heard about this one with dots and dashes. I'll look that up." As soon as she was able to read.

"Want to play a game after dinner? We'll have more time then."

"Morse code? That's a good one," Toby said with a nod. They had been forced to learn that one too. If Maia learned it she would be able to communicate with them without the general populace understanding and it wasn't as if it was used often. Only when spoken word was absolutely impossible.

"Sure, we can play after dinner," Dari agreed.

Toby stood then and moved to the kitchen to inspect the pot. It had come to a roiling boil and so he turned the heat down slightly and motioned for Maia. "Do you want to put the pasta in?"

"That's it. Then If anyone's listening in, we can use that." She gave Dari a smile. "After we play, you should play Toby."

She went into the kitchen. "Okay," she said, taking the box of pasta, opening it and dumping it into the boiling water. "Now what?" she asked. "Do we wait? Stir, maybe?" Did pasta stick to the pan like the fish she'd tried making? It'd stuck and burnt badly enough it'd turned the pan black.

"Okay. I'll play the winner," Toby said, and watched Maia approach. She grabbed the entire box of pasta and tried to pour it in, but he smacked his hand over the opening. "Not all of it," he said with a chuckle, "Just about half of that." He waited for her to put the pasta in the water and nodded.

"Both." He placed one of the large spoons beside the stove and set the timer so he'd at least think to check the pasta if they got terribly distracted. He also produced a smaller pan and filled it with the left-over sauce, setting that on a lower heat. "I'll start the chicken when the timer goes off."

Well maybe she'd been a bit too enthusiastic. She did as Toby said and poured half the box in. "You'll be playing me then. I'll win." She watched the pasta boil expectantly. How long would it take, she wondered. And how would she know when to stir?

"Alright. I'm sure it'll be delicious."

"Oh, will you? I think that was a challenge, jelly-boy."

"I don't feel the need to win every time."

"You're a nerd."

"You're a dog."

"Touche. In several aspects~" Toby cooed, then laughed and returned to the group. Dari had already retrieved both computers and set them up on the table, getting both set up. "Do you want to play a board game, or an online game or a roleplaying game...?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 27, 2015 5:21 pm

"Online games? Role-playing games?" Maia echoed, blinking. "What's a role-playing game?" she asked. She glanced back towards the kitchen. She wanted to learn all she could about cooking. How did the stove work, exactly? "Why does he call you a dog?" She asked, looking to Toby.

"Because he's cheeky and disrespectful," Toby responded, but he was still smiling. Clearly he wasn't actually upset. The two shared insults as a sort of affectionate ribbing, although anyone attacking one or the other from the outside would have the deal with his partner.

"You take on a character and play them through an adventure," Dari said. He had a great number of those. "What do you not want to play, though?" He assumed from her comments on humanity that she wouldn't enjoy shooting at other humans or murdering the wildlife regardless of whether it attacked you first. "No gore, I'm guessing. Do you like horror?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 27, 2015 5:58 pm

"But why?" Maia asked. "Dogs are stupid and noisy, and I don't think you fit that description. Well. Maybe a little noisy, but you're not stupid. And you seem nobler. Like a cat!"

She made a face at Dari. "Don't you guys live horror? Why would you want to play it? Let's play snake again."

Toby laughed rather hard and came over to pat Maia on the back. "Thanks. I think."

"Well, I suppose. This is only fiction, though. Sometimes the uses are very creative." But rather than start up some other game, he brought up snake and offered the laptop to Maia.
