"And of course, with Celebor's family here now," Alyse added with a smile, "I'm sure there's enough distraction for her. It's lovely having them here ... for the most part."

"She means Ruran," Ruque spoke up wisely.

"Huh...."

There was that name again, that little tick that didn't make sense to Donovan. Though he filed it away seeing as it added to the mystery that was brewing in his brain.

"Interesting..."

He had a morbid sense of curiosity and he knew it.

"I'm sure Lin will enjoy knowing Celebor is here."

Alyse was about to elaborate on Ruque's comment, but when Donovan changed the subject, she decided that it was probably a good idea to follow suit.

"From what I understand," she commented, "the two of them did a lot of the same things in the Southland? Training or something like that?"
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 7:32 pm

"Well... yea..." Donovan replied, "Celebor stayed in the Southland for a year as part of his education, and Lin pretty much was half educated there herself."

She probably in an odd way related better to people here than anywhere in Gaia, well actually he had to rethink that. She related best with people here and pretty much very little with those in Gaia.

"Celebor has always been older than her, but they played a bit as kids."

Something about tag.

Alyse nodded. "I've always wanted to visit there," she said with a warm smile. "I hear Queen Atalya has the largest library in all of the Four Lands. I'd love to have a chance to read through it. Nako's taught me how to read High Elven, so I think I would even be able to read almost all of the books there."

He had to admit judging by the amount of time Shiro had locked himself away in the library that was probably true, though he didn't know enough about the Four Lands to say yay or nay to that fact.

"Will you travel there one day?"

"Perhaps," Alyse replied with a faint smile. "I can't say no, anyways. After all, I do have a lot of life ahead of me. But I would need someone to travel with ... and a reason to go there, besides just for the books. The queen may be Elrohir's grandmother, but my blood relation with her is almost nonexistent. We're all Aldriches, but ... really that doesn't mean much anymore. There are too many generations."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 7:53 pm

That was true... it was like a clan after it became too big, you could all say you belonged to the clan but after many generations you might as well not be related. He had no idea where in the generation gap Alyse was, Lin might know, but he never paid too much attention to it.

"Well, you do scholar work too right? What about to visit Sir Valdemar? Isn't he a scholar as well?"

Well he was, but again Donovan didn't know much only that he was the oldest (offically he still hadn't forgotten Elrohir's slip of the tongue) elf alive. At least that's what a little Surprise had once chatted to his poor abused ear once.

Alyse had to think about that. "It's ... not quite the same," she murmured thoughtfully. "He's a historian. He records history. Researches history. Events. I like to learn about and study ... more of how things work, what things are, why they are. Less about the events. More of what Uncle Adonai does."

That was a good point, he shrugged. He didn't have any other suggestions, honestly he couldn't think of anything.

"Well, maybe I should bug Shiro to come here, with his memory he could probably just recreate those books for you."

Shiro would like to do so, and he also hadn't seen his brother or his family for a long time, if ever.

Alyse brightened at the suggestion. "I think that would be wonderful," she said happily. "I haven't seen him since ... I daresay at least ten years. More. Much more. Perhaps even twenty."

Not that she had spent much time with him, but she did remember that he had read every single one of her books in the space of a single night - and then quoted them all back to her the very next day, without a single mistake. She was jealous of that talent, though she had to admit she didn't mind reading books more than once.

How old was Alyse? Donovan had no idea and had no tactful way of asking.

"He hasn't been here since he was a kid," Donovan replied, "Not that it means much since they grow up quickly."

In the time it would take any stage growing child to grow to adult a child here would be an adult so it wasn't really that much of a difference.

"It's just longer for you."

Alyse nodded. "I know. The time gap between our worlds. Still, since they grow quickly, it doesn't mean much. We're always about the same age anyways. The only way the time difference would mean much for us, would be if we were to go to your world for a visit, and come back and see how much time has passed. I know Serenity did it ... but ... I don't know anyone else who would go."
PostPosted: Sat Apr 25, 2009 8:36 am

Well to be fair at the time the only thing Serenity had to look forward to was Daeron visiting, and his father. The former, cute kid the latter a stick up the old arse. Now he doubted Serenity would do it again, she had family to visit and a husband...

Things had changed, drastically over the years.

"Times were different when Serenity visited, this was before Gion and Elrohir married, and she only got to see Daeron once a year, granted she probably sees him less now, but she had no other grandchildren to visit."

And very little places she could go to freely back then.

"I doubt anyone else would go, having time run away with you like that and being in a strange world I think would be a bit much."

"That's what I mean," Alyse nodded. "If it wouldn't be so hard on my family, I might consider going ... but Mama would be beside herself with worry, and Ada ... well. I don't know." She shook her head slowly. "It just wouldn't be a good idea. Besides ..."

She hesitated, looking as if she were going to say something, but then she shook her head and remained silent.
