"As long as you say it is okay, Amy." Zephit produced a wide, honest grin, even though she wouldn't be able to see it with her back to him. He still felt uncomfortable with the notion, and yet her permission was nice to have. Maybe he would invite someone over, sometime in the future.
"Kissing is very nice." He looked down into his lap, trying to hide the smile on his face. His memory was playing the last kiss he hand very vividly in his mind, and there was no helping the feelings it brought. "You don't have to worry either. I know to only kiss someone I really like."
Zephit looked back to Amy's back, watching her intently. He had never actually cooked before, so it was probably good that she refused his help. Not to mention poor Phoenix hardly seemed ready to be stirred. "You want me to put him in your room to sleep? Phoenix that is. I'm sure he'd like to sleep with you now that you are back."

Amy nodded in response to what Zephit said about inviting someone over. And then he started talking about kissing again and how he was only kissing someone he really liked. Jeez it didn't seem like the Liada she knew and the one he was talking about could be the same person.
Her mind was in many different places all at once, and she knew better than to do that when she was cooking. That was one thing Karrie had helped her with in cooking. He had taught her how to focus more and how she could be a safer and better cook if she focused on the task at hand instead of being so scatter brained.
"Uh, no, you can put him down in the living room if you want. I just don't want cat hair on my bed... OUCH!"
Amy dropped the pan in the sink as soon as the metal side came in contact with one of her fingers, the hot pad holder having slipped enough to expose it. She had been picking it up again to move to back to the stove, the pasta having been put back in the pan. Luckily when she dropped it into the sink, not much pasta spilled out.
Phoenix jumped off of Zephit's lap at the loud noise and raced out of the kitchen. Thistle ran to Amy's side quickly and looked up at her in worry.
She quickly went to the freezer, grabbed an ice cube out, and held it to her finger. "Stupid pot... Stupid me for not paying more attention... Dammit."
Tears were gathering in her eyes, though most of them were not from the physical pain.

Zephit jumped upon hearing Amy drop the pot, and was almost immediately at her side. Standing beside her he could easily see the tears in her eyes, as well as the ice she was holding on her finger. "Amy..."
Gently he grabbed the ice, and searched the drawers for a clean washcloth. He wrapped the cube up in it tightly, and then pressed that onto her burn. First aid was one of the many things he had learned from being a fighter. "You shouldn't apply ice directly to a wound."
Rather than sit back down, he stood there cradling her hand gently in both of his. Burns hurt, but this was hardly enough to cause tears. "What's wrong, Amy?"

Amy felt the ice cube being taken away and then felt a washcloth being placed on her finger a few moments later. She was thankful to have the icy feel back on her finger.
She very softly muttered, "Thank you..."
At Zephit's gentle voice and feeling his gentle hands cradling hers, tears started to fall down her cheeks. She felt stupid as they did, but she couldn't help it.
"I miss him... I miss him so much. Everything I do reminds me of him. When I cook, I think about him, when I'm walking around town, I think about him, when I'm awake, I just think about him. I try not to, but I just do... He broke up with me because he was afraid that being around him would hurt me. I think there was some weird spell going on around him, and he was afraid I would get hurt in the process. But this hurts so much more... I just want to be back with him. We were both so happy when we were together. We were all a family.."
She took a few shaky breaths and looked at her finger. "I'm sorry, Zephit. I know you probably don't want to hear this. I've been so good at keeping it all in until now."
Thistle whinnied softly, sadly, and gently nuzzled the side of Amy's leg.

"Women are so silly." Zephit said calmly, wrapping his arms around Amy and pulling her against him. A small smile was on his face, glad that she finally let all that out to him. Even he could tell when someone was bottling things up. "Always apologizing for things you shouldn't feel bad about. Trying to hide things from the rest of us so we don't have to worry."
"You can come to me anytime you have a problem." Zephit nodded gently, squeezing her a little tighter. "That is what friends are for, Amy."

Amy let out a very soft sob as Zephit wrapped his arms around her. Gripping the washcloth in her injured hand, she wrapped her arms around his waist.
She gave a shaky laugh and rested her head on his shoulder. "Thank you, Zephit. I just know that you've been through a lot, and my problems don't help anything... I don't want to make you uncomfortable with all my problems."

"I don't mind accepting your problems, too. Just don't tear my other eye out, okay?" Zephit was glad she couldn't see his face, because there was no hiding the frown that sat there. Reflecting back on his problems was something he tried to avoid--he had to avoid.
"Why don't we just order something in?" He asked, pulling back to look at her with a small smile on his face. "It will give us more time together. To talk about your trip."

Amy sniffled slightly as she pulled back and she wiped at her cheek with her good hand. "Sounds good. I'll buy... I ruined the spaghetti after all."
She chuckled softly, somewhat sadly, and sat down at the kitchen table. Thistle jumped up on her lap and nuzzled against her. "What kind of food would you like to order?"

"I thought the guy was supposed to buy food when the girl was sad." Zephit sat across from her, resting his head in his arms. As he thought about it, his tail swished back and forward like a metronome.
"Get what you like, Amy. I'll pay." Zephit nodded and lifted his head up to look at her. "No arguments."

Amy looked confused at this. She was thankful and touched, but she was confused. "Zephit... I'm very touched by your gesture, but... How are you going to pay for it? You don't have to do that. I mean, I know you were a cat. Cats don't exactly have money. It's okay."
She winced slightly. She was really worried that she was embarrassing Zephit, and she didn't want to do that at all, but she was afraid he'd feel worse when the food came and he couldn't pay for it.

"I'm not a cat anymore." Zephit reached into his pocket and fished out some money. A pretty reasonable amount of pocket money, considering he had almost no bills to pay.
"Th-the truth is that I..." He looked away. What would she think of him after he told her what he did? What would she think of him fighting other people for money?
"People pay me to fight." He almost whispered, his ears drooping in preparation for her to scold him. Fighting was bad wasn't it? But he was really good at it so... What else was he to do?
"People pay me to hurt other people. Or get hurt, if I'm not in the mood for it that day." He placed a hand in his jacket, touching a bruise on his side.
"Th-the point is I have plenty of money. I can pay."

Amy's eyes widened and she gasped audibly when she saw the money Zephit pulled out. She had so many questions, but Zephit started answering some before she could ask.
Upon hearing his response, his reasoning for the money, her heart broke.
"Oh Zephit.... Zephit, honey, you shouldn't... That's so dangerous! You shouldn't let others treat you that way, and you shouldn't treat yourself that way..."
She looked at him in pain and worry. He needed money, though. She was never familiar with that need, but she understood it.
"You should come work at AS! You can be a security guard... oh! You could be a greeter at the front desk like Jessi and Haley are. People would love you."
She reached forward with her good hand and grasped Zephit's hand. "Just promise you'll think about it, okay? It pays well and would be so much healthier..."
She sighed and looked down at the table. It wasn't really any of her business. Just because he lived with her didn't mean that she had the right to say all of this But dammit! She'd have said it whether he was living with her or not! She spoke her mind and that was that.
"Uh, yeah, well.... You know, we could just go to JD and eat there. They have the best food in town."
She didn't know if she was suggesting it because she liked their food, or if she really just wanted to taste something Karrie had a hand in making.

"I would like working there, but I just. I dunno..." Zephit sighed and looked away. He didn't want Amy to think he didn't want to work for her, but he kind of didn't. She was his friend and it would be weird if she was his boss, too.
"We could go there, if you really want to. I didn't know you liked places like that, Amy." Zephit mentioned quietly. "I'd really like to try their food, though."

Amy nodded at Zephit's response. She was a little sad that he didn't seem to want to work there, but she wasn't going to press it. But she did hope he'd consider working someplace else, doing something else.
Amy smiled softly at Zephit, not really feeling up to smiling completely. She kept her finger wrapped in the washcloth and stood up.
"Hope they don't mind me going in there with a washcloth wrapped to my finger. With my powers over water, though, I can keep this ice cold as long as I need it to be."
"And JD isn't like MW. It's a very nice restaurant run by... very, very nice people."
Well, just one person, but Zephit probably knew that already.
Amy talked to Thistle for a little bit and explained where she and Zephit were going. She gave her some of the sauce she had been cooking as well as the meatballs to tide her and Phoenix over until they got back. She promised to bring them back some food.
Then, she left the place with Zephit.
