"Hey, you," Toby said, his voice still a bit weakened. He cleared his throat and squeezed Maia's hand, tilting his head to better allow a cheek kiss. "Sorry to scare you like that. Can someone clue me in?" He looked between the others in the room.
"Your tie clip. It got embedded in the wound and integrated," Lori said.
"Really?" Toby seemed rather surprised by the thought. "Well ******** that, then."

"No more tie clips," Maia said, squeezing Toby's hand back. Government idiots using the cheapest possible stuff without thinking about the safety of their employees. "Stainless steel ones, maybe," she amended. She didn't want a repeat. She'd almost lost Toby.
"Dari saved you," she said, looking to Dari and giving the alien a grateful smile.

"That sounds good," Toby agreed with a nod. He released Maia's hand only to look under the blankets at himself. His wounds had healed as one would expect from a proper werewolf. He smiled and then looked back to Dari.
"Did he, now?" Toby asked.
"You may not want to know how," Lori said. He turned off the camera and began packing it away.
"Well if you had to get it on tape..."
"Exactly."

"It was pretty gross," Maia confided, leaning close to whisper. She kissed his cheek again. "You're okay now," she said, as if she still could scarcely believe it.
She glanced at Lori as he put things away, her eyes returning to Toby after a moment.

"Hey!" Dari said with a laugh. He had since put his ring back on and become a being of warm flesh. "I was your dialysis machine."
"Oh wow. You were inside me?" Toby asked.
"No, Michael was inside you. You were inside me."
Lori snickered.

"It was," Maia said, "But you saved him." She reached to stroke Toby's hair. "I owe Michael," she mused. "We should take him out more, Toby. He really liked going to the park." When Toby was feeling better, of course. "I took him to see the flowers."

"That sounds sexy," Toby said, and offered a little smirk. oh good, Dari thought. He's already back to his old off-color jokes. Toby turned to Maia then and nodded. "Sure, we can do that."
"You took Michael out?" Dari asked.
Toby's brow furrowed. "Hey, yeah. You took Michael out?" Making smart remarks but not feeling especially smart, apparently.
Lori left quietly.

"Yeah. We went to the park and he stayed over at our place one night." It had been strange, especially with the stares she'd gotten, but Michael had definitely enjoyed himself. "He told me spring is his favorite season." She grinned at Toby's question and stroked his hair.
"He's no competition for you, love. He told me when you arrived."

Toby laughed.
"My concern isn't for your fidelity, love. It just wasn't something I would have expected of you. It takes a lot of trust to let someone in like that, and you and Michael didn't get alone so well at first," he said. "Was he good company at least?"

"Hm. I didn't like you much, at first either," she mused, and then smiled. "We became friends." It'd been easier than she'd expected, but Michael was a good guy. A dead one, but a good guy nevertheless. "He was. But I don't think I'm very good at being possessed. People kept staring." She shook her head.

"Good. It's sort of a pleasant feeling if it's on friendly terms," Toby said with a nod, and let his head fall back against his pillow. "Well. Were you talking to him?" His eyes were still on Maia and he was smiling.
"And I approached you like a creeper on the beach, of course you didn't like me."

"Yes." Maia grinned. "But I didn't mind it, the stares. No one said anything. And Michael really enjoyed seeing the flowers." So it was worth it, really. The poor guy had said he hadn't seen them for ages.
"I liked you well enough until you forced me to come with you."

"The moment I said 'selkie' you were running for the hills," Toby said with a little laugh. "And that'd be it. A person who talks to themselves is sure to get a lot of stares, but nobody wants to approach them. I tend to talk to him too, because ******** it. The poor guy lives... I mean, he exists in solitude most of the time. I'd be glad to get him out whenever he wanted it. Especially now."
"He was in you for four days," Dari said with a nod.

"I thought you were there to capture me," Maia said, running her fingers through his hair. "I was right, wasn't I?"
She nodded. "I thought he must be lonely. I went to talk to him before, and he helped me feel better about your being gone." She glanced at him, expression becoming stern, but she didn't say anything, just continued stroking his hair.

"Pretty much. We just didn't have creepy ulterior motives," Toby said. He nodded in agreement and then furrowed his brow at Maia.
"What? What did I do?"
