Don't get me wrong, Tifa and Aeris are nice, but I'd take Yuffie over them anyday.

ever time i got to that part in the game out of the many times i've played it, it was always aerith or tifa. never yuffie or barret....darn i didnt even know you could get barret

I didnt bother reading ALL the replies but I remember when i was about 9 or 10 I watched my brother take Barret out on a date. Its hilarious, especially on the Gongaga ok so i forgot the name of the ride, but on that ride with the fireworks Barret completely ignores you and taps his foot. Talk about awkward. He's pretty much silent...you know..guy and guy thing...really weird for manly but marshmallowy Barret.
I on the other hand, have never been able to get Barret, I have no idea how the hell my brother did it.
And no I'm not lying. Unless I had some crazy realistic dream and couldn't tell it apart from reality.

Actually, the trick is to spend the most time with one of your team mates for it to happen.
I've done it purposely with every character possible up to that point.
Barret fiddles with his gunarm when he asks Cloud out.
Nanaki sticks his head out on the firework ride.
Tifa and Aeris are popular enough, so you probably already know.
I forget what Cait Sith does.
Yuffie...well...is Yuffie. Hyperactive.

There's actually an entire guide in Gamefaqs on getting the four possible characters on the date. For lazy people like me, I just look it up on YouTube.
As for who I pick~ Tifa. Just because I re-name my characters to be my circle of friends, and Cloud is my RL fiance and I play Tifa. Corny? Yes.
