It pained him to see her this way. Chase hated how Hubert used her like that, making her to be some kind of fancy doll to show off out in public. He had seen alot since living with her.
Chase figured he was never going back to his real time ever again. Oh, if only he was noble! Then he would have married her instead! Chase had gotten a crush on the woman the more time they spent together. Yet he never brought it to light because he figured she never felt the same.
He just smiled softly when he noticed her turning away. Sitting next to her on the bench, but on the opposite side, he looked away and up into the sky. "My today's a lovely day isn't it Jane? Ahh springtime in your country is really nice this time of year." he said then sighed. "I won't cut corners with you, I'm here..if you need a shoulder. After all your my friend, weather you see me as a friend or not. If you want to talk..I'll listen." he said closing his eyes and smiling softly.
Chase didn't see her as a tool, he saw her mostly as a person and as an intelligant woman. He always seemed to be learning new things from her. "You could..tell me about what you've read. Or maybe something else you fancy? I've learned so much from you just being here." he said quietly to her.

Chase always saw beauty in the most simple things, most men around her would only be happy with there wasn't a drop of rain in the sky. But Chase was different, he would compliment the entire day like it was special. Her response to his opinion was just a nod as she tried to put on a stiff upper lip like most of the English did. Something seriously wasn't right with her, her face looked like she was about to crack at any moment.
"I know that, and you've become a very dear friend to me. Right now you are my only friend. Everyone else has gone off to marry and we can only see eachother when our husbands wish to meet up." Jane sighed lightly, but it was no loss really. All the women never got her, but it was still nice to talk to someone in the same position even if they didn't agree.
Holding back the tears, she looked up at the clear blue sky. He was right, it was a perfect day. The shade of the maze as nice and cool on her skin too, which was a lifesaver from the heat of the sun sometimes. Chase then asked about books she had been reading, but she shook her head. "Hubert burned all my books.. said a woman shouldn't have her head in the clouds.." she lifted up the tight sleeve of her dress carefully to show she had a fresh burn on her arm, it couldn't have been older then a day or two. "I tried to get them out of the fire.. but it was no use.. maybe he is right.."

Chase gently took her arm and frowned. Hubert would go to jail for abusing his wife during his time. "I see.." he replied with sympathy. "Do you need me to take you to a doctor Jane?" he asked sweetly. Oddly he had become the wagon driver as well.
Chase went from lowly manure shoveler to now driving a carriage. This times society and people were kind of odd. Still he got paid for it, and kept some of the money in case he ever went back to his time period. Lucky for her, Chase had been called by her Husband to help the man burn most of the books.
"Oh..there was one he managed to miss.." he said pulling out one of the smaller books he had kept hidden in his coat. Upon further looking it was her favorite story. "I think a woman with her head in the clouds is a beautiful thing. I'm sorry, I was forced to help him. So I managed to salvage this one, it was the best I could do. Hubert would have caught me if I had stuffed a dictionary in my coat." he chuckled lightly trying to cheer her up.
He wasn't happy with the way Hubert had been treating her. "Still we should probably get the burn checked. I would hate it if you fell ill. You're my only friend in this place, I would hate it to see you die on me Jane." Chase smiled at her softly with tenderness and care.
He slowly was developing a crush on her. A crush on a married woman, still he could see more to Jane than just a prettied up doll.

Jane shook her head at the offer to see a doctor. She was scared to see one. It was the questions she feared, if she said her husband was the cause then she would either be laughed at, told it was her fault anyway or called a lair. This woman didn't want that, it could easily tarnish a family's name if a daughter was considered a liar. "It's fine, I doubt a silly little accident will happen again" Jane said with a forced plastic smile. She knew he would be able to see through it, but putting on a face is what she was taught from a young age.
The burn didn't look so bad to her, it would just sting when touching it or brushing up against anything. "Managed to miss?" she asked as Chase revealed a book from under his coat. "You brilliant man! Thank you so much" Jane had a smile that stretched across her whole face. Taking the book from him she instantly stroked the cover of it, it was like being reunited with an old friend. "This means alot to me.. all I have now is books. Well, and you to talk to of course" she pointed out to him. The story was a little tattered looking, very much loved and read alot it seemed.
He then mentioned going to see the doctor once more. Chase wasn't going to let this go was he? Reluctantly, she agreed. It was the least she could do since he saved the book for her. Jane wasn't going for herself but more for him and his worries.

"You're welcome." he replied happily. "Though I would find a good hiding place for it, I might not be able to save the book if Hubert finds it." he said with a sigh.
She didn't seem too thrilled about a doctor and Chase crossed his arms. "Well we don't have to go, I just don't want you dieing on me Jane. You're kind of the only friend I've got." he sighed sadly, "I don't know what I'd do if you weren't around." he blushed shyly.
Chase turned around and sat next to her this time. Relaxing he looked up into the cloud filled sky. He always felt so comfortable when he was with her. Jane was a remarkable woman who was caged by a fool that didn't love her at all. Who knows what the man would do whenever she would become pregnant with Hubert's child.
A greedy man like him seemed too busy to care for children, let alone a pregnant wife.

That was a good point, finding somewhere to hide it. For now there was no major need to find a hiding spot because her husband was out for who knew how long. She was getting suspicious of all his weird outings lately, not even taking her on these so called get togethers. Jane placed it on her lap, looking down at it's leather bond cover. It was given to her by her mother supposedly. not that she would know, Jane never met her mother.
Hearing Chase's comments made her smile. "You'd be fine if I wasn't around. Probably go off on a new adventure once you escape here... I know that you don't like it here really..." Jane sighed, she knew it to be true. Chase didn't come here to work, he was forced to.

That was true, but still he didn't mind it too much. "Yeah I guess you could say that, but you make the day fun Jane. It's nice to have someone to just talk to." he replies happily.
"I don't know what I'd do honestly, though I bet the people at home are starting to miss me." he sighed some wondering just how long he had been gone from his time period.

She turned her head towards him once he mentioned people back where he lived. It was understandable, Chase always said he wasn't from around there and he never sent any letters of any kind so there must not have been contact with anyone since he got there. "You miss your family?" Jane asked, in every sense of the word. Parents, siblings, children and everything inbetween.
With a heavy sigh, she stood up. Holding the book close to her chest Jane looked down at Chase. "Look, I can get you out of here if you really want to see them again. I can ask Hubert to have you fired and you can just travel back to see them. I'll pay for it, no need to worry about that" the regal looking woman smiled kindly towards him. He had done so much for her these past few months that it was only fair to re-pay the favour in some way.

That was all well and kind for her but..her plan would work. Looking up into her trusting eyes he sighed deeply. Chase had really hoped he would never have to tell her this. Standing he frowned.
"This might sound a bit odd but...I'm from the future." he started hoping she wouldn't think she was crazy. Chase told her, how he was some fancy executive in a large company, about cars, about his job, about everything! It was like he couldn't stop himself. Chase even explained about what happened, how he was walking home one night and was struck by a telephone pole and somehow was teleported back to her time period.
Now sitting back down on the bench, his hands on his face he sighed deeply. "So I can't really go home! My home doesn't exhist in your time period! Jane I swear I'm not crazy, I know you don't believe me..but..surely you know I'm different. Back during this time women were treated the way you're being treated. In my time, women are loved and respected. I cringe at all the beating and fighting your husband does to you! If he were in my time he would be in jail and you would be helped."
He sighed. "I just...never wanted to say this to you because I don't know if I'll ever get back. I swear I'm not crazy..though you probably think I am now...I'm sorry Jane."

His sudden announcement took her back quite a bit, she as silent at first. "Chase... you're telling me this again?" Jane asked, remember the last time he talked about it he just laughed saying it was a joke but this time was different.. There was pain in his eyes, actual longing to go home. Maybe he was crazy, but it was a very convincing crazy.
Taking her place back on the bench, she stayed quiet for a few more moments before breaking the silence. "That... must explain why you talk to me like you do... never looking at me like some breeding tool or something pretty to look at..." she sighed. "I've never hard of time travel... but... we are discovering new things everyday in this world... so maybe... you're telling the truth.." With reading all the books she read, Jane had an open mind about things and now felt rather guilty for laughing at him the first time round... "You want to go back.. to where you came from.. right?"

"Yes I do...I'm scared.." he admitted looking up at her. Tears in his eyes he tried his hardest not to cry but he couldn't take the pain anymore. "I don't know anyone personal in this time period. Sure you're my friend, but most of my relatives aren't even born yet! It's...a very unsettling feeling. One false move, or if I get killed, I could ruin my whole family tree! I-I don't want to do that." he sighed.
"Then again, maybe I'm the one that starts it? Like I eventually meet a girl and get married and start my family line, only to have it constantly loop when it gets to myself..it's really odd when you think about it. Jane..you don't know how lonely and frightened I feel. What..should I do?" he asked hoping that maybe she would have some kind of solution. A smart girl like her, Jane probably knew some people or something.
Drying his eyes he composed himself. "I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't be blubbering like this infront of you. It's impolite and rude." he sat up and frowned. "I don't see how you put up with all of these rules and guidelines. Heck I'm having so much trouble keeping up, I'm surprised I'm not fired by now."

Jane listened very carefully to what he was saying, talking about none of his immediate family not even existing yet and time paradoxes. It sort of muddled the mind up from thinking on it and fairly scary too, god knows how Chase felt about it all. He must of been crushed.
"Don't be sorry at all, I've been crying on your shoulder for weeks. It's only fair that you do the same." Jane placed her gloved hand over his to try and settle him a little. Hugging wasn't a thing you usually did with other men. "I'll help you find a way back if you want, I just wish I had more of my books..." she sighed "maybe.. I can secretly buy some more to research and if I'm stuck I can always take you to see a real scientist.. I'm no genius really.." Jane really wanted to help him with his problem, not being from your own time didn't sound logical. "Or maybe.. just maybe.. we... need to create the same conditions from how you got here.. that might work.."

(lol why do I suddenly feel like making a doctor character like Doctor Emitt Brown from Back to the Future? XD)
Looking up at her he smiled. "Thanks, you're very sweet Jane. No I'll be alright, I've already kind of accepted my fate." he sighed. Chase would have hugged her, but he understood it wasn't good for them during her time. "I'll find a way home, but for now I'll just continue to live here in your time. If that's fine with you. So..enough blubbering, what does the Lady of the house want to do today?" he asked standing and giving her a wink.
"I am your coachman now. We could always venture into town..maybe to the bookstore? Or perhaps wherever else My Lady would like to go? Anywhere is fine." he smiled trying to make light of the situation.

He didn't want help? He was just going to deal with it? Now that she didn't like. From what Chase said, his timeline was much better then here. So she came up with a plan...
"Well, seeing as you're offering to take me out.. I'd say we shall go to the book store" Jane smiled, holding out her hand elegantly for Chase to take it to escort her. If he wasn't going to help himself, then she would..

(lol of course I haven't seen the movie in ages, so I have no clue what's he's like. xP But oddly I can picture Christopher Lloyd appearing in a delorian randomly. XD lol)
Chase smiled and elligantly took her hand. "Then if the bookstore is My Lady's wish, then I shall have to ablige to it." he smiled softly kissing her hand. Putting on his fancy top hat and tail coat, he elligantly helped Jane into the cart. The other people of the mansion didn't mind the Lady going out. After all she was in charge when Hubert was away, so if Lady Jane felt like going out, Lady Jane went out!
Chase quietly pulled the cart into down, casually encouraging the old horses that were pulling it. Stopping at the bookstore, he climbed down and opened the door. Making sure there were no mud puddles for her to step her dainty feet in he smiled at her. "We have arrived My Lady." he said giving her wink.
The bookstore owner would reconize the cart, and Jane. She had been his loyal customer for years.
(man, now the scene with Belle entering the book store, from the animated Disney Movie Beauty and the Beast, just popped into my head. XP XD lol I guess my brain is on refrence night or something razz )
