"Cold," Cody said. He gave Dari's hand a little squeeze and swayed their hands playfully. "I'll give you a hint, though," he said. "It's not that way." He pointed straight ahead. "And it's not behind us."

Dari looked left and right, then headed off right toward the trees. The campsite was either in the trees, or it was off in the open touristy area. So if this was cold too, he knew which way to go.

"Getting warmer," Cody said, unprompted. He looked around, and then to their hands. "Why didn't you tell me when your birthday was?" he asked.

"Well you didn't tell me yours either," Dari said, smiling over to Cody. "I've never liked celebrating my birthday anyway. I prefer to celebrate others'. It really is a big day. If it weren't for that day, you'd never have the person you love so much, you know? I think Toby thinks the same way, because he never lets me go without."
He leaned over and kissed Cody's temple. "When's your birthday?"

"Yes, let's celebrate it," Cody said, "Because without it I wouldn't have you." He smiled at the kiss. "August seventh," He said. "We should go camping that day, if you can get it off. It'll be hot, though."

"That's fine," Dari said, "I don't mind the heat." The summer would be interesting. He had never felt extreme heat before, at least not in this human form. The lucky part was that if it became too much to bear he could just slide his ring off and forget it.
He noticed that Cody seemed to have a fondness for camping, like it was the best way to mark a special occasion. His trips with his father really must have meant something.
He turned in the trees, heading a bit more westwardly.

Cody smiled. "No, I guess it doesn't bother people after they've lived here a while," he said. "Its nicer here, though. I used to live in the southern part of the state and that heat was killer. I always liked coming here." He paused, and leaned over to kiss Dari's cheek.
"You're hot now," he said.

Dari laughed and smacked Cody on the bum, releasing his hand momentarily for that sole purpose. Cheeky!
"You'll beat me every time."
He had been intending to invite Cody on one of their New England or Southern States trips but his little quip at the end had shuttled that all out of the way for a good bum rap. Dari blushed. He'd never thought he'd do that!

Cody blushed, and after a moment, took Dari's hand again. That... Hadn't been expected. Certainly not unpleasant, though. "C'mon," he said, "Look," he pointed towards the campsite. "You ready to roast marshmallows love?"

"Oh, well I was a little off." Had he been in his natural form he'd have seen the site ages ago. That was the one drawback to his human form. He picked up the pace a little and jogged to the spot. The fire was already stacked. So this had been well-planned! Touched, Dari kissed Cody on the cheek and plopped down on the log.

"A little bit." Cody agreed, following Dari at a slower pace and grinning. He sat on the log next to Dari, cupping his face in his hands and giving him a proper kiss.

Dari returned the kiss and let his hand rest at Cody's waist. Yes, this was what life was.
"You came out here before?" he asked, voice soft, "For me?"

"Yeah," Cody admitted, giving Dari a smile. "I would've planned more, but Toby only called me four days ahead." And he'd panicked over What to get Dari; let alone what to do with him on his birthday. He kissed Dari again.
"I love you," He said.

He just shook his head and leaned his forehead against Cody's, grinning like a fool.
"I don't need 'more,'" he said, his voice soft, "To have you is enough." He touched Cody's cheek affectionately. He kissed Cody again after his proclamation of love and then responded in kind: "I love you too."

Cody was so happy, he failed to express himself in words. Instead he opened his mouth, closed it, and seemed to think better of attempting speech. He stole another kiss.
"I'll light the fire," he said. "Want to grab the marshmallows?"
