"I'm just as clueless as you," Ryu replied softly, "Though... I can at least say this much... he wants to be strong, granted that's probably because he can't accept who he is, but by doing so, it's being quite hostile to everyone else."
Since he seemed to want to pick fights among other things.

Celebor nodded thoughtfully. "I only wish he would allow himself to listen and learn what real strength is," he said softly. "I should have learned more about their trainer before leaving them with him ... I was a fool. I've learned my lesson now, but that doesn't change what has happened. I should have been there with them, for them ... always."

Ryu looked hesitant for a moment, the only thing he and his sister had managed to figure out so far was that there were people in the Seconds World that Celebor and Niyana did not want their children to have contact with. Of course he knew very little about the people who lived in his birthworld, minus of course the Second eating mermaid.
"This might be overstepping things a bit, since I know you're uncomfortable with the subject, but... what happened?"

Celebor clenched his jaw angrily, and it took something of an effort to calm himself enough to speak.
"I wanted my children to have the same education that I did, the same training," he said simply. "I didn't believe I had the ability to teach, so I found them a trainer. Niyana did not want them to leave the Seconds world, as I had done ... and I can understand her fear. But to - to pass them off to a complete stranger ... we were fools. I was a fool. I should never have done that."
He shook his head sadly. "Ruque was afraid of the man, and so he stayed with Niyana and myself ... but the others ... we saw them rarely. Once a week, sometimes less. They were being trained - at least, that was what I had thought. To an extent, they were. The man ... Corrah ... he tormented Ruran, always told him that he was not strong enough, not fast enough ... taunted him to make him train harder, to become better, stronger, faster ... Kanis did as she was told, but she did it mechanically, because she was told, and not because she wanted to. Aras ..."
His jaw clenched shut again, and his nostrils flared angrily. "Aras ... played. And her trainer allowed her to do so. And her playmate ..."

"And you are not fond of her playmate," Ryu finished recalling the anger Celebor showed when it seemed that Aras was not supposed to have any contact with this Rhea at all.
Though he could actually see where the problem with Ruran started, it probably made Ruran's personality problem worse rather than better. Any fighter should be working on respect first before all else, otherwise it was like having a loose cannon.

"To put it plainly," Celebor nodded tersely. "As for that matter, that is all I will say. I should never have let them go. I should have kept them with me. Perhaps that would have done nothing for Ruran, as he was born much as he is now, but ... Kanis and Aras, at least, I could have helped."

Ryu wasn't so sure about that, having Celebor teach his son himself might have at least given him more respect than the boy was giving his father now.
"You're here now though," Ryu assured Celebor, "And they're still young yet, there are advantages to be a quick learning race."

"Except that I've already lost almost a year with them," Celebor replied quietly. "A year in which they've been learning ... the wrong things."
He shook his head slowly. "How could I ever undo that? How could I ever pay for that mistake?"

"With time... and patience...." Ryu replied softly, "And.... perhaps being honest with them as to why they are here. I think the kids know you don't like their trainer or this Rhea person, but I don't think they understand why. This is where you are going to have to explain why those things they learned is wrong, and tell them it was a mistake."
It would probably be a really hard thing to do, Ryu couldn't imagine telling his child that, and he hoped if he ever had one he wouldn't have to.

Celebor nodded. "I just hope we can find Ruran back before he does something really stupid, or something happens to him," he muttered worriedly.
But poor little Ruran had already encountered trouble - and that was ... he was lost. And hungry.
"Stupid mer," he muttered angrily, kicking at the ground. He rubbed his arms to warm himself, shivering slightly in the shade of the trees. He was still soaked through, and getting very cold, despite the warm day. "Hitting me and telling me I'm stupid."
He sneezed. "Stupid elf!" he growled. "Throwing me in the water! I'll get them for this!"
He looked around and sighed. He wanted food ...

Well as long as there were no other people Ryu was sure that Ruran wouldn't do anything stupid, but something happening on the other hand. He nodded at this as he hurried along trying to keep an eye out for Ruran.
He looked over his shoulder, "We're already very far...."
He wondered if Ruran had gotten lost.

Celebor nodded. He didn't want to think about what might have happened to his son. Sure, he was angry with him, most of the time, but ... he still loved him. No matter what.
Still more time passed before he started hearing a soft voice muttering angrily. He held one hand up to Ryu. "I think I hear him," he said quietly.

Ryu nodded as he tilted his head a bit, it was so soft he might not have heard if it wasn't pointed out to him.
"I hear something..."
It was only as they got closer that he could tell it was an angry mutter, which led him to assume it was Ruran.

Ruran was still wandering aimlessly, completely lost, his stomach growling, shivering almost uncontrollably now, and full of sneezes.
"Daaaaaaaaaaad!" he wailed, slumping to the ground; and then he shook his head and got to his feet again. He had to be strong. He couldn't show any weakness. "Find my own way back," he muttered darkly.
Celebor heard his son's voice clearly now, and he finally allowed himself to relax a little, relieved to hear that he was all right. "Ruran!" he called. "I'm coming!"

"Do you see him?" Ryu scanned the forest.
At least they knew for certain that he was there.
"Ruran! Stay where you are, we'll find you!"
