I am already lvl 33 and haven't even gone to the 4th tower in the first world. I found interesting ways to level up. so... i have just been powerleveling for a couple hours....

Haven't played it yet, but I would say the remake of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP, also known as Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions.
Why?
Long Version:
The game now has fully animated, and I believe voiced, cut-scenes that, while not on par with FFXIII, gives it a layer of beauty that the original game lacked. Also, I love the class system and due to online play you can even get classes you previously couldn't get such as Onion Knight or Dark Knight.
Then the main reason. Out of every FF game I've ever played, other than whichever one had Vahn, I think that was FFXII, Final Fantasy Tactic's plot line is one of the best I've ever played.
Short Version for those who agree with the TL;DR Methods:
It's boss on so many levels that the universe was created solely to give birth to the game.

Tactics is definitely one of the best storylines out of all of them.
I don't know why you would say 12 is any good though. it was probably the cruddiest one made other than 13.....
i literally beat 12 in one day. i didn't like any characters really... i mean they were good in terms of archetype. but overall i didn't care about what happened to any of them. The leveling system was cool, but the combat was lame. The world in itself was cool, but like i said. I just didn't care.
Compared to 7, 9, 6, and 4. and even ten, i just kinda finished it on the principal rather than really being excited about it.
and.... i dunno... that song was annoying.... lyrics were funny but the background was just annoying as s**t.

The background music for all their songs can get annoying, but the lyrics are funny and I only listen to any rap for the lyrics and not the actual music.
I don't know, I never beat 12 if that's the right one I'm thinking of, but I just liked it. I found the graphics beautiful and the plot actually seemed to be getting interesting before I just got bored and lost it. :p
I do agree that 13 is crud, though. I mean, graphics were cool, paradigm shifts were somewhat cool, but I also hated the paradigm shifts, and the story behind it was so unreal and not like any other Final Fantasy that I just couldn't get into it. As soon as I got to Pulse and died I quit the game. :p

13... really really has made me mad....
All the places before pulse, i trained my characters to their maximum level. Each time it rose. So i could start out ahead later on. Even with that. When i got to pulse. I was killed. Automatically. Every time. it pissed me off so bad. I was even good at using the paradigm stuff. but no.... that game.... so ******** lame...
12 is the one with Vaan.

Yeah, I did the same. Trained all my guys to the max I could get them at that point. Best weapons and all that, took forever on the giant plant boss, and then I get to Pulse and the first battle I died. I got frustrated, quit the game, let someone borrow it, forget who and no longer have it. Only reason I'd find it is just to get the satisfaction of beating it.
And the only thing I didn't like about 12 was how the characters get involved. It didn't make much sense. :p
