Lori took Maia's plate as well as his own to return to the station. smiling to her as he passed. "See you at eleven!"
Toby nodded then and he and Dari stood. Really he much preferred the fieldwork, but there wasn't always a case to be on. The more supernatural entities they found, the fewer were left to find. Some day they'd just run out, although hopefully not any time soon.
"Yeah, I'll stay. Just this once, though. I'll have to pick up some stuff from home." Food, pajamas, things like that.

Maia thanked Lori when he took her plate, standing up and stretching. "See you!" she agreed. She turned to Toby. "I'm sorry I kicked you earlier," She said, hugging him. "Last night was awful. But Dari made it better." When he agreed to stay, she smiled at him. "Can we play snake again?" She asked.
She held onto Dari's phone, moving to hug him as well. "Thanks for staying with me."

The hug was still awkward. Toby stiffened and only moved to pat Maia on the back. It was fine. He still wasn't entirely sure why she'd done it, but it was fine. "Sure, I don't see why not. The first night is always the hardest." Now that it was over he felt he could tell her so.
Dari returned his hug, though, and nodded. "Of course." That was it. He didn't need to mention how upset she had been.

"And you couldn't have told me that before hand." Maia tasked, shaking her head at Toby. She felt she could have prepared for it. "Good. You bring your computer and we'll have a contest."
"I'll see you guys later," she said. She made her way towards the exit. She knew she was bound to get lost: with all the turns they'd taken just to get to the pool.

"I didn't want to scare you," Toby admitted, and waved to Maia as she went to leave. She was certainly being brave for her first day in. If all she needed was a cell phone to feel safe then maybe they activate one sooner rather than later. He turned to Dari then and nodded for him to follow, and they fell into step on the way to their office.
The HQ was indeed a sprawling, complicated structure. Many of the hallways and rooms seemed larger inside than they could possibly be from the outside, but most of them were closed to Maia, being only an entity and not an agent or assistant or other sort of worker.
Soon Maia would find herself in the middle of a sprawling room filled with large partitions between desks. People chatted and compared notes, papers were tossed and strewn. It was like any office building, really.
From behind one of the partitions then came a rather large cat, or perhaps "rather large" was an understatement. It was perhaps the size of a large Maine Coon, and there was something unearthly about it. It was slender and black with a white spot in the center of its chest, and it spotted Maia. It made a soft trilling sound and visibly perked, slinking casually toward her.

Maia noticed the cat immediately: and after, nothing else mattered. She stared at it for a moment as it came towards her, and then bent down. "Here, kitty," she called to it. The idea that it might have been something else entirely: a fae or selkie-cat person, didn't occur to her. "Oh, you are lovely." She said, smiling at the cat.
Maia had seen cats before, kept by shop keepers and strays that lived on the streets. She'd never seen one quite as large as this one. "Do you live here? I'll be staying a while, too."

The cat meowed as if in response to her greeting and continued over at its own leisurely pace. She reached out to pet it and it pushed its head into her hand and then its neck, then its whole body. It turned around for more petting.
The young woman whose desk Maia had stopped beside smiled and turned to her. "He's our office cat-sidhe."

Maia obliged, petting the cat happily. "You like that, huh? I'm new to this, you know. I've never played with a cat before." She looked up when she heard someone's voice. "Cat sidhe?" she echoed. "Oh, that's why you're so pretty. You're fae! Me too. I'm Maia." She seemed to say the last bit for the woman's benefit, but her attention was on the cat. She moved to sit on the floor with it, petting.
"Does he have a name?" she asked. And where had they gotten him? She wanted a cat! "You can have cats here?"

The woman was unsure if Maia was talking to herself or to the cat, so she didn't offer her own name. Clearly this was a new girl, and more likely an entity than a coworker.
"I think his real name's Seamus, but he gets called all kinds of things around here. He's the only one. Well, him and Pixie, but Pix isn't a cat. They just sort of followed the agents home after rehabilitation. We can't bring pets to work or anything."
The cat sidhe flopped onto its side, purring and squinting at the new fae in the building. At the very least he seemed to like her. Not everyone was so lucky at first.

"Hi Seamus," Maia greeted the cat. Pixie wasn't a cat; that intrigued her. "What's Pixie then?" she asked. "Can residents have pets?" she asked, looking up at the woman. They couldn't have pets at work; but could she have one? "Are you an agent?"
She beamed as the cat began to purr, flopping onto it's side. "That means He likes me," she guessed. She petted him again. "So you followed someone here, huh kitty?" He probably was admired by more people here, than wherever he'd been.

The cat meowed again, ears pushing out to the side a moment as he just lay there and enjoyed the offered affection. The woman turned from her computer a moment to address Maia.
"I'm not sure," she admitted, "I don't think so? You'd have to ask the people in Housing. This is Research. I'm not an agent, no, but I do know some. Pixie's a, um... not a pixie. He's like a... little wyvern? He's somewhere around here. He pretty much just does his own thing."

Maia petted the cats head as she looked to the woman. Her smile had faded a bit, but not completely. The woman didn't know. So there was still a chance She would be able to. She'd have to ask Toby later. "Oh, so you must work with Lori. He told me he worked in Research." she scratched behind Seamus' ears.
"Oh, a dragon?" Maia asked with interest. Toby had said they kept a dragon in captivity. But she didn't figure the two were the same. "I'll keep an eye out then. I have a meeting at eleven with Lori."

"Oh, yeah, actually! How do you know him?" Obviously none of these people had ever met Maia before and so she was reasonably confused. Then the selkie elaborated and she nodded. "Oh!" So she was a new entity! What type, she wondered?
"He's... I mean technically he's a dragon, but he's not very big. I bet you'll see him before you leave!"

"I met him at breakfast today. He said he watched my video." Maia looked around the room, hoping to catch sight of the dragon. "Do You know how they found Seamus?" She would have asked the cat herself, but he didn't appear able to speak. "Not around here, I'd imagine."
She glanced at the cat, petting him again.

Oh! Was this the selkie then? It must be, they hadn't sent anyone out on any missions since then.
"On a mission in Scotland. They went for ghosts and found him trapped, so they took him for rehabilitation but he refused to leave camp, so here he it. That was only two years ago or so?" The cat's wounds had healed completely, though. There was no more ring of scar tissue around his back leg.
Seamus stepped up with his front paws on Maia's leg and, purring like a diesel truck, he happily rolled his body under Maia's hand.
