Afte giving the Magus the medicine, Clem looked at the dead Horde crab-thing.
"Well... No crying over spilled samples..." He sighed, pulling out an eyedropper and carefully bottling some of the greenish substance, after which he put on a glove and placed a fragment of carapace in a small jar.
"The academy will be pleased at least... I go out for mushrooms, and bring back bug juice... I'll be the most loved biologist in the building. Sometimes I just love my job..." he gagged.

((Let's see, what can we do about this...))
A random beggar came up to pester Cal for money. The old woman sounded desperate and ill, and she was complaining that her two children were sick, with no food.

Jaeto wrapped his arm over Cal's shoulder and pulled her away from the woman. "Back off street urchan! We have no money!" He would have kicked her, but the princess would not approve. Also, he was in public and that behaviour would be looked down upon.

The old hag suddenly jumped forward and clinged to Jaeto, slumping to the ground but refusing to let go. Eventually, she was groveling at his feet, crying, wailing, speaking horribly about the death that is to come to her and her two children. About how she'll have to kill them so they don't suffer, don't starve to death instead.

"Listen lady!" Jaeto was about to have at her when Cal stepped in. "Please ma'am... He's telling the truth. We really have no money." She spoke softly. Jaeto tugged his leg away fro her. "You'd be doing them a favor anyways..." Jaeto muttered under his breath. "Feed them today, they'll be starving again tomorrow..."

A man with a red cape strode up to the two children, "Filthy beggar! Can't you see they cannot lend you any coins?!" He flipped a gold coin onto the ground next to her, "You may keep it if you get out of my sight!"

The woman snatched at the coin, bowed her head and murmured many thanks to the man, then scrambled away, leaving a yucky dark spot where she had been laying. Her clothes - it was a surprise that they weren't entirely comprised of black soot. Or... were they...?

The princess said nothing but looked down at her toes. She realized now that these infested wastes of life were not exclusive to Eopia. They lived in her kingdom as well, but royalty didn't even notice them.
Jaeto looked up at the man. "Thanks a lot. I'm not used to batting these people away. I'm... from the country..."

The man smiled, flipping his white hair out of his eyes, "You're nobility. Your companion is from some kind of military... It's obvious from the way you carry yourselves. Even if you are visitors, you still don't need to deal with such despicable filth..." The man tipped his red hat and let his staff slide down to the ground. "But you aren't Eopian. Your accent gives that away. So, you are probably from Favraes. Well, welcome. I hear there's a war going on down there... bad business, that..."

Jaeto eyed the man suspiciously. "You haven't been there?" "Yes..." Cal answered, disreguarding Jaeto's protection. "It's awful. The whole place has just... fallen apart..."

"Nope, my dear lad and lass, I have not been there. I spend most of my time there." He pointed his staff at a large white and red building hovering in the sky, a small arch joining it to a tower in the city, "I am Archmagus Leonard, I work at the Eopian Academy of Science and Magic. I deal with biology, but some of my colleagues specialize in scrying. We have so many little stories up there, some unbelievable. If you wish I could take you up there, you could take the tour, relax in the lounge, look down on the city, generally be away from this rabble down here..."
Leonard was holding something in his other hand. it appeared to be a crystal of some kind. it was glowing with a soft light.

((It may be prudent for the storyline's sake to tell them that the war isn't a civil war anymore, it's a full-blown invasion. Of course, you already knew that, right? smile ))
