Cody flipped his cell phone flashlight app on, looking for the trail they'd come from. "I'm sorry," he said, "I didn't mean--" he'd gotten Dari in trouble, somehow. Did he have some kind of job induced curfew? Why had Toby flipped out? It wasn't as if it was midnight. "I shouldn't have fallen asleep," he amended.
He offered Dari his hand, and stood. "You take the flashlight, I'll get the blanket?" he suggested.

"No, no. I wanted to sleep," Dari said, smiling, "I wanted you to fall asleep. You looked so tired." He gave Cody a kiss on the cheekbone and took the flashlight from Cody, holding it so he could grab the blanket more easily, and then he wrapped his arm around Cody's back and started down the path. It didn't strike him as odd that he might remember it unmarked on only the second trip down.
"He worries," he explained as they worked, "There was sort of an... incident lately. I don't think he'd be so freaked-out otherwise. Plus losing family the way we have..." He shrugged.
"It was worth it, though."

Cody smiled slightly. "Yeah," he admitted, "A perfect day with my boyfriend wore me out. I'm sorry it couldn't have lasted longer," though. He made his way through the brush, stumbling quite a bit more than he had while it'd been light.
His smile faded then, and his grip on Dari's free hand tightened. "Something happened to you?" He asked in concern. Yes. That was understandable.
"Maybe next time we could go to my place?" He suggested.

Dari's smile broadened. Perfect, huh? Boyfriend too. Ah, he could get used to that. He squeezed Cody's hand back and kissed his cheekbone.
"Don't worry about it. It's all over now. It was harder for them than it was for me." That much was true. He looked to Cody then, hoping he could see some intent in him, but there was none, just soft and sweet and trusting. He was nervous at the invitation. Didn't coming over usually lead to... ...? Maybe that was only some people? Against his nervousness, the sensation of which he still found thrilling, Dari nodded. "Sure. That'd be nice."

"Job related?" he guessed. Dari was being vague. "I'm glad you're alright," he added, as if to clarify that he didn't have to go into details. Whatever top secret government thing Dari did, it wouldn't come between them.
"I thought we could watch some movies, order a pizza or something," he said, "I could show you what I've drawn, too."

Dari just nodded. Sure, it was technically job-related, it was just on a personal level. It was just as confidential as the rest of his career.
"Sure," he said. Watch a movie, order pizza... was that what men did when they were trying to get sex from other men? He mostly just knew heterosexuality and pop culture. It certainly didn't seem like it. Ooh! Drawing? Yes, Cody had said he drew!
"I've love to see it. Do you want me to bring my sketchbook too?" Well, one of them.

"You should," Cody said, happily. "Maybe we could work on something together," he suggested. He had a hideabed if Dari decided to stay the night, and if it'd calm Toby down, he'd give him his address.
"Do you have a favorite kind of pizza?"

Dari beamed. He'd never been able to collaborate! For obvious reasons, of course; the same reasons he hadn't done most things that involved personal interaction, but it was exciting to maybe try now!
He almost said he hadn't had much pizza in his life, but that definitely wasn't a normal-person thing to say. Honestly he didn't know, though. They'd tried quite a few one gluttonous night out with the family, but what was his favorite?
"Hmm. Peppers maybe?" he shrugged. "Surprise me. Just no anchovies." It was their whole little body on there. He couldn't take it! "What's your favorite?"

"Hawaiian," Cody said. No favorite? But he had to agree on the no anchovies. Bleh. He couldn't stand seeing the fish, let alone eat it. "Do you want me to come in with you, when we get to your place? It's my fault he's upset."

"I'll try that. Honestly, I've never had it. The combination seems strange. I trust your judgement, though. Maybe we can get a back-up, just in case." Still he was smiling.
"No. No, you don't have to and no, it's not your fault. It's nobody's fault. I'll get home in one piece and everything'll be fine again."

That caused Cody to pause. He looked at Dari for a long moment. "What rock have you been living under?" he teased. "What kind do you know you like? I'll get two."
"At least let me walk you to the door." They reached the car at last, Cody unlocking and opening Dari's door for him.

"Steak and peppers?" Dari asked. Like a cheese steak but flat and less likely to get stuck in your teeth! He laughed then. "It's a really big rock? Like, huge. Enormous. Oh, thank you." Dari had never had the car door held open for him.
"If you want to," he said. After all, Toby would probably see that as the proper thing to do with a date.

"Alright," Cody agreed, smiling at Dari. A big rock, huh? He shut the door and climbed into the driverseat. "You're lucky he called, really. Some park ranger might've found us in the morning." He shook his head.
"Are you busy tomorrow?"

Dari pointed to a sign that read 'PARK CLOSES AFTER DARK.' "We're breaking the law. Probably just a misdeameanor," Dari said and smiled at Cody.
"No, I don't have any plans. Why? Do you want to see me again?" There seemed to be actual shock in his voice.
Before Cody could get two words out, Dari said 'oop' and the car had to stop. The entrance was blocked off. Someone had probably been looking for them. He got out of the car, unhooked the chain, guided Cody through, replaced the chain and then got back in.
"Sorry, you were saying?"

Oops. Well. He'd never stayed here this late; at least, not outside of the designated camping grounds.
He went through the gate as Dari guided him, and looked back at the sign. "That'll be great to tell your brother. Hey, Toby, my new boyfriend nearly got me arrested!" He shook his head. "I was wondering if you'd like to go out to dinner with me."
