"Great!" said Lightning, grinning. "Thanks for the cookies and ice cream. It's more fun than actually fighting someone that you have nothing against, you know?" Lightning rubbed her head, a tad bit annoyed. That bonk had overlapped the other bonk, meaning that she had one bump on her head, with the pain of two bonks. She elbowed Drathi in the ribs. "Oh, I see," she said, not really seeing the Christmas Ninja image in her head. "You could at least warn me next time you hit my head."

"Here's a warning for ya," Drathi said. "If it's stupid and it pertains to me, it merits a bonk." He rubbed her head apologetically, though. "Of course, I sometimes forget hat some people don't have as hard as a head as some people..." He looked back to his books and opened The book was about the size of his torso and was about as thick as 1/3 of his staff. "Ugh..." he groaned. "Not just a wall of text, but SMALL TEXT! My mortal enemy!"

The portal led to Emma's library, as promised. Nyrk dragged his ball-and-chain through the portal, then collapsed on the carpet. He awoke only a moment later and found himself a chair. He was soon upon the chain binding him, picking loudly at it with a pin he had affixed to his amulet. "Do you have anything to take this chain off?"

"Wait, I should apologize for earlier," Nyrk interrupted himself. "I suppose that poem was not my brightest idea. I'm sorry."

The sorcerer's eyes fluttered open as mind and body rejoined, and he stood, disguising the fact that he did so with some difficulty. "You have nothing to apologize for, especially not to me." He made his way over to Nyrk, laying a hand on the ball-and-chain. A hint of grim satisfaction entered his eyes as the device fell clean off the bound Exorcist.

Nyrk rubbed his ankle. "Thank you," he said. "Where's Vii? Could she make it through the portal?" Nyrk looked back at where the portal had dropped him in the library. It was still there, flickering a bit. A guard walked by it oblivious to its existence; the sorcerer was clever in his spellcraft. Nyrk walked to it for a closer look.

While Nyrk's attention was occupied with Vii, Hrothbert took the opportunity to catch his breath.

It had been but hours before that he had been inches from execution, rescued only by Emma and Scribbler's combined efforts. Half his power gone and physically about as strong as a newborn kitten, but he was hardly about to let Nyrk know that.

Realizing that he was two seconds away from passing out, Hrothbert took his leave after bidding the Exorcist farewell.

The wolf landed on the rug of the library just as the Gentleman that had instrumentally allowed their escape took his leave.

Disappearing behind some book stacks Vii made a growl and a whimper and then returned to the main area able to speak this time.

"Well that guy sure was nice." She said glancing from Nyrk to the door.

Drathi quietly returned to the libary. He figured that Emma would be the best person to ask such a question, so he came here once more. It was not hard to guess what was wrapped up in a magic cloth; it was his staff. Drathi looked at it worridely and looked around for the enchantress, or her husband.

There was the sound of hurried footsteps and Emma soon came into view. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, but her posture was as regal and composed as ever. She eyed the mage with calm interest, glancing towards his staff.

"Yes?"

"Uh-um... Did I come at a bad time?" the boy asked, setting his staff, still tightly wrapped up on the table. "You look upset." Drathi could tell something was off about Emma. He noticed her swollen andred eyes. "What happened?" he figured that his staff could come later. His friends always came first.

"It's been taken care of." Emma said curtly as she swept over to the table. "Hrothbert was almost arrested...half his power and life force has been stripped away. It will take time to return...a day at the very least." she blinked back the tears that still pricked the edges, keeping her tone businesslike.

"But what was it you wanted to see me about?"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 30, 2009 5:27 pm

"Arrested? you mean, like the magic police?" Drathi curiosity had been piqued, but then he remembered why he came to the library in the irst place. "Emma, somehow the orb on my staff cracked. Its leaking mana, whenever I have direct contact with it, so I have it wrapped up. Do you know how to fix staves?"

Emma nodded. "A police of a sort." she muttered, delicately unwrapping the staff. "I can fix it. I think." Her hand hovered a few inches above the cracked orb, glittering with violet fire. "What were the circumstances under which it cracked?"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 30, 2009 5:38 pm

"I don't know," Drathi replied. "After I beat my last opponent with it, I noticed the crack just before I fought Scribbler. The magic unleashed is even more unconrolled than it is without the staff. Think it's possible that maybe it was a mana overload? I've had this staff for a year, so maybe I outgrew the capacity of the orb?"

"It looks like an overload to me." Emma replied after a few minutes of examination. "I can strengthen the integrity of the original spells and structure so that it can withstand more, if you like."

She turned the staff over and over in her hands, scrutinizing every contour and scratch.
