I was standing in Barnes and Noibles yesterday, reading Pride of Bagdhad or however which way you spell it. Some random dude comes up to me, he was 20-some years old and tries to tell me about Manga. Do I read it? Do I like it? Then he tries to tell me about this one manga, which sounded utterly stupid, but he's extolling the values of it like he's some sort of demented Jehova's witness that just won't get off the porch.

I turned to him. "You're the reason no one likes you. Grow the hell up." And the retreated to the cafe to finish reading. I didn't even aknowedge this guy before he went into his dementia. What the hell?

Wow! You did the same thing my roomate did. She took finance to fill in her minor and realized she hates it. She said reading the text makes her want to die, so she doesn't. Yet somehow she gets good grades in the class. I can't do that- I feel the obsessive need to read the text even if it won't teach me anything new. gonk

Good luck to you too!

Thanks mrgreen

Reading finance makes me want to die also but I just drink coffee and force myself to read it. I generally read the textbook also because it feels like a waste of money when they cost like $100+ if I don't spend the time getting into it

You know, those complaints about Finance are really turning me off from going back to school. I was planning on going back and majoring in Accounting. sweatdrop

I just hate finance because there's all these confusing stuff like what happens when a buyer or seller takes a short position or a long position and how is this different if this is taken as an option or as a put. I just can't make sense of stuff like that and reading it just gets me even more confused

My main major was accounting and I like it. It's a lot more number-crunching which I find easier and once you get the ideology behind it, I don't think it's that difficult. The only annoying thing is that there's so much stuff that changes. There's just so much regulation in it and you always have to try to keep up with it. But I found it a hell of a lot easier when it came to cramming for it compared to finance

YES! SPECTOR HAS HOPE AGAIN! I've found a school (in chinatown of all places) to continue and finish my animation and cartooning studies! If all goes well with my friday interview, I should be back in school in less than two weeks! YES!

Man, who would've thought that in Chinatown, the Mecca of anime, porn and illegal goods, that I would find an accreditted animation and cartooning school where the tuition is only $30 a week!

I am SO glad I'm not the only one who gets random a** occurrences like that. Seriously; I have a ton of just frustrating stories involving the comic section in Barnes and Nobles or Borders. I have no idea what posses those type of people, no idea at all. At least you have the guts to say something, rarely do I ever. I mean, I'll have a fierce mental response ready but I generally just end up try to end the conversation quickly so they will leave me the hell alone. I used to think it was maybe because I'm a girl reading a comic and not a manga so people felt the need to speak to me about manga and if I'd read any but I knew that was a far cry from the truth. Tons of girls read comics, why would that provoke a stranger into conversation? I think it's just weird individuals.

Just pissed me off because that was the last place I could go to get graphic novels without a buttload of crap. The comic shop doesn't carry many. And the Borders people are freaking obnoxious. evil

Clerk: "Is that everything?"

Me: "Yes ma'am."

Clerk: "Do you have member's card?"

Me: "No." I'm digging out my wallet to pay for the book.

Clerk: "Would you like to sign up for one."

Me: "No thank you."

Clerk: "It'll just take a moment. All I need is you e-mail address and we'll send you free coupons."

Me: "No thanks. I'd just like to buy this."

Clerk: Getting indignant. "I just don't see why some people have a problem with saving money."

Me: Getting pissed. "And I don't see why I can't buy a damned book without a ration of s**t." And I storm off leaving the book on the counter. This happened everytime I tried to buy something there. I finally gave up and won't go in there anymore. Had some random chick in there once staret spouting of about manga while I was flipping through a Superman trade. She's prattling on about these characters and these books that I've never heard of, and then looks at me like I'M the nutty one because I don't know what the hell she's babbling about.

The manga/anime crowd wonder why we snub them in the CDF. I know why. The hardcore manga/anime fans are hardcore asshats.

Why are you living my life?! scream

I'm not a card holder either and I had an experience just like that one like 3 weeks ago. Except I didn't say anything and I bought the book 'cause I needed it for school and I'm passive aggressive; but the lady was tryin' to push a card on me like heroin. Maybe they get commissioned or extra for every person they get to sign up but come on- I already said "No, thank you" four times!

I hate comic shopping at Borders or Barnes and Nobel. It's just a redundant frustrating experience almost every time for me. One of my favorite stories took place I think a year ago and I was looking at the comics seeing if on the off chance they had Ronin. A girl wandered over to me all smiles asking what I was looking for, 'cause she knows all the manga and she could help me (I noted that she didn't work there). I told her "Its by Frank Miller" because I had this fashionable idea that the Western name would clue her in in a subtle way but she started lookin' through the rows of manga. I let her do that a while before I decided to tell her it's most likely not on that side of the shelf. For some reason that irked me.

I'm sure the Borders employess are instructed to hard sell the memberships. I hate that. There's a convienence store that I haven't gone to for for over three years because they tried to hard sell me brownies at 7 in the damned morning. "C'mon, help us out." No! ******** no! I don't know you. I just want my Coke and a banana so I can go to my shitty, back-breaking job. That was another instance where I left my stuff on the counter. I just glared at the woman and told her, "I'm not supposed to help you, you're supposed to help me." Never to return.

And another frustrating thing about the bookstores. They always have the collections and trades next to the manga. There's invariably people standing in the aisle reading the manga. I'll stand there and read the trades as well so it's no big. Here's what gets me. I ask someone to please step aside some i can get to the rack with the trades. Nice polite "Excuse me." and they move infront of the trades because OBVIOUSLY that couldn't be what I'm after since there's perfectly good manga sitting right there.

I can't wait for this damned trend to die off, and these little trolls can go back to keeping there crap to themselves instead of thinking they're the new in crowd. Bad news kidlings, YOU ARE DORKS! I know this because I used to be one. Do what I did, and learn to function in polite society!

This is why I only venture into that aisle at the book store if I'm equipped with friends to create a buffer zone around me. xd

See, that's your mistake. You should go down the aisle equipped with a baseball bat wrapped in barb wire. That'll learn 'em.

You forget, I'm female. Manga fans find armed ladies 'hawt.'

Actually, my biggest problem has been wearing the S-shield shirt in public. I had to stop because I was tired of "HEY! SUPERLADY! YEAH! SUPERWOMAN!" yells.

So it's not just manga fans...

I thought it was just armed ladies, with mad-ninja skills and impossibly sized breasts.

The only comic related shirt I wear is a Finder one. They can't say nothing if they don't know what it is.

Where do you find your bookstores? The Barnes and Noble that I go to is fantastic. They're friendly, polite, and I've never had problems with mangaphiles.
In fact, the bookstores in this city in general are great...

I'm in the Virginia beach Area. Now, let me clarify, it's the Borders emploees that are bad. I've had nothing but good customer service at Barnes and Nobles.

Unfortunately, the pesky mangaphiles have invaded everywhere. evil
