Samson waved good bye to them and went back into his house to continue with his work. He wanted to finish it so he could help out Janis and Cornelius later. So he started now working on it as fast as he could.
Cornelius led Janis away from Samson's and stated, "I think there's a set of stairs carved out of the rocks here somewhere in the canyon. I hadn't told you about it yet, but I'd like to walk to the village, just to see how you do on your feet for prolonged periods of time." He moved his hand so it rested on her waist and asked, "Would you like to climb said stairs?"

He moved his hand so it rested on her waist and asked, "Would you like to climb said stairs?" Janis was unsure of all this, but she could try. She nodded. "Alright, if you think it's a god idea. Just make sure I don;t slip? I'm afraid I can't see my feet." she said with a smile. She found that kind of funny. She was still a little worried about the villagers reaction to her large pregnant belly. It wasn't normal by any standards.

"Don't worry worry..." Cornelius stated as he his hands behind and held her from behind her back, "No matter how big you get I'll be sure to support you. I can understand why you can't see you're feet at all. Your belly's so big, and I know it's scary, but I think if you've put on this much weight... Well, I would think you're quite healthy I hope. You may fall over due to this, but that's why with every wife there's a husband or someone else to help out." He wanted to support Janis, but he was unsure if his words were supportive. She sounded slightly reluctant to go up the stairs. But he led her to the bottom of them and looked up to the way tip toe of the side of the canyon. There must have been over five hundred or so, though he was sure they could make.

Cornelius's speak wasn't exactly full of courage and inspiration, but he supported her. It was enough. She smiled, a little amused. At least he was honest and didn't put on any false bravado. "Alright. Lets do this. You'd better be right though." she said. Janis was stubborn though. When she set herself to do something she did it. Once she started up the steps, she wasn't about to stop halfway. She pressed up. Yet, she was bound to get tried and as they got closer to the top. She felt as if she weighed a thousand pounds. If only she hadn't gotten so far. They did make it with some effort, Janis panting. At the stop she sighed, so relieved to be done. She needed a break. "Oh, Cornelius. Help me sit down, I need to get off my feet." she groaned. One the ground sh did her best to slow her breathing, rubbing her hand in endless circles across the surface of her belly. "You were right. We made it. Please don't make me do it again." she laughed.

Cornelius hugged her around her waist and said, "I won't let us do that again... I was afraid you'd fall so I was probably more reluctant than you to let you go up them. I suppose that's why we stopped at the bottom before heading up."
He took it upon himself to help her sit down on the ground, lowering her very carefully down to the dirt with his arms, and pulled off her shoes once he finished speaking. He then pat her belly and calmed her by rubbing her back.
"Um, hey, Janis, I know you're half way through your pregnancy now. But do you think it was a good idea for us to have this many children? This stair climbing exercise has really shown us your limits, and well, since we're going into town with you like this I'm wondering if it's okay for us to do so." he voiced in concern.

Janis was relieved as he rubbed her back. It felt good. It get really tense after awhile. She sat relaxing as he asked his questions. She waited til he was threw voicing his concern before she answered. She patted his leg soothingly. "I think it's a little late to worry if having these children is a good idea. And neither of us have a say in how many. So you don't have to worry. However, I'm a little iffy about the villages as well. I've just walked up hundred steps and I'm pooped. So if you suddenly feel going into town is a bad idea, then I'll gladly go home with you." she said with a chuckle.

Cornelius stopped rubbing her back an said, "If you really want to go home I suppose we can. I don't feel like going to town myself either since I feel really tired, but we should try to go there soon. I don't know why, but I think people would find it weird if you stay away from that place too much longer."
Cornelius shrugged and thought of a crazy idea as he sat with Janis. What if they took the opportunity to multitask in order to sleep and travel around. "What if we slept here for a few hours or so and then went into town."

Janis stared at him like he was crazy for a moment. She opened her mouth to tell him so then hesitated. The sun was warm, the air was nice and a nap actually sounded good. "Normally I'd say that was a bad idea, but... A nap sounds great. If I can sleep for even one hour I will go to town, easy." She took her time, leaning back against her elbow and then laying down. She sighed, and rubbed her mountain of a belly. "I just hope noone mistakes me for a hill."

Cornelius lay down next to her and voiced, "If they do I'll be sure to correct them." He tried to press as close as he could to Janis to snuggle up with her, but with as big as she was he simply laid his arm over top of her belly and sighed.
(I'm thinking we should do a time skip maybe...)

(You can do the time skip, and however far you want. Since Janis is in month eight or so of the pregnancy I don't think we should try to go over a month's time skip at all if we were to do anything that drastic again.)

After their nap the trip to the town when rather well, aside from the stares they attracted. May came up to ask questions about her and how they were doing. At the home for young girls, Diana was still resistant and ignored them, but the girls were eager and crowded, asking questions and asking for a chance to visit. All in all it was rather enjoyable and the two were about to pick up some needed things. A month had passed since then and Samson was still making plans to find his mate and Cornelius and Janis were putting some final touches on their home.

Cornelius walked into the cave house he and Janis shared carrying a twenty foot long piece of lumber and had a happy glow in his eyes. He had enjoyed visiting town last month and the girls he had met, including May. Although the town was seemed reluctant to have him and Janis as neighbors they at least tolerated, or so it appeared.
When he entered the cave he walked down a long slope towards the back of the house. Over the last month, he had gathered large timbers to put into the home to make sure the cave kept itself stable and did not alter too much due to weathering. He wanted to keep their house in pristine condition. As he approached the back of the cave, he looked around hoping to find Janis, but upon not seeing her walked over to a square hole carved into the ground. He set his long timber piece into and smiled as the propped up plank connected with the floor and ceiling. The cave was sure to last them a long time.
But only if not too many children wandered about the house. Still after having asked her about it a month ago Cornelius was extremely worried about Janis's size. As of now, Janis was so big he figured she could not transform back into her human form and had trouble moving around. These were only assumptions though since he had let her keep to herself the past month to get accustomed to the house as he finished building it with her help. He was sure Janis was happy; although, Cornelius had proven to be an extreme worry-wort.
One thing he had done though was destroy the magic pills he had been giving to Janis in the past to help her gain weight and adjust to herself. Cornelius figured she was more dragon than human now that she did not need them anymore and that she was eating enough as it was. He was glad she hadn't started asking for extra special treats yet, but one day was wondering if she might ask for a crazy food like peanuts pickled and wrapped in salami covered in ice cream and baked in a pot pie crust.
He had no idea where he had gotten this food concept from. Somehow though women seemed to eat this kind of food. It made him shiver in fear of how he might collect such strange items and mix them, but he was willing to try.

Janis was lazying in the sun outside. She'd seen Cornelius collecting timber. For awhile she'd watched him work, impressed by his efficiency and proud he was such a good bread-winner. He when to great lengths to make she she was alright, and by extension their children. She admitted, his worrying was a little overbearing at time. She had been used to taking care of herself for several years. She still had trouble letting him coddle her sometimes. However, now that she was finding it harder to get around he could deal with it. Cornelius's worry about her size was not unfounded. She had worries about how hard it would be too take care of all the little dragons should she have a large brood. It wasn't something she could change, so she didn't dwell on it. Finally she stood up and shuffled into the cave. She had been taking to walking more often. Flying was a difficulty and she supposed in her last month she would be land-bound. A shame. She loved flying. Cornelius seemed to be finished with the supports. She surveyed his handy work and smiled. "You've really been working hard. You should take a break." she said, nuzzling his cheek a little.

Cornelius turned around and an rubbed one of his hooves against her scaly skin on her cheek. At times, he hated having hooves instead of claws because he did not feel he was a real dragon, but he supposed Janis dealt with it. He liked the idea behind her suggestion since he had carried the log from a place two mountain ranges away from them.
"Janis, when I take a break, what do you want us to do? Sun bath? Swim?" He still wondered what Janis could do now that she was so heavily pregnant. she could clearly not fly anymore. Her belly almost touched the ground, and he was not sure she would like to go do something like eat. All she did now was eat as she waited for the final months of her pregnancy to draw closer. Soon, he hoped she would lay a visible clutch of eggs in the spot he had put in cave support beams and get nice and comfy with the new family they were to have.
