"The shrine...?" Vieno asked, unfamiliar with this place.

"The shrine of Shadows...Have you never heard of it?" She said, "It's the shrine that houses spirits once they leave their body." She nodded. "I live there...My parents were the shrine keepers, and the task has passed to me."

"And how do you know that the guards won't look there?" Vieno asked. If Amira was the shrine's keeper, wouldn't that make her easier to find, once the guards came to Nubai? Or perhaps superstition or some other idiotic fear of mystical things would keep them away? Vieno didn't know how it would work.

"The gates." She said, "Only the keeper can open the gates to the shrine, and there is no way in but that." She smiled, "It's the safest place to hide."

For several long hours, a lone black-pelted wolf had trekked along silently and cautiously. She showed no signs of weariness and kept up her pace with bright sapphire-colored orbs watching straight ahead. Then she reached what appeared to be plains, stretched far out before her with tall blades of grass beckoning those paws to continue forward. The wolf paused, stretching her muscles and shaking her pelt roughly as her eyes surveyed the area. All seemed quiet, but she knew better than to trust what she saw. Her large, pointed ears listened intently and heart reached out around her, yet still, the same results. She chose to trust this emptiness for what it showed, and within seconds, the black wolf became human. Pulling the long, golden-brown hair back from her face, those deep blue eyes looked round once more. The emerald twists about her pupils were small and still, hardly seen unless one knew to search for them. She slid her hands into the pockets of her trench coat as she took several long, silent strides forward through the tall grass of these plains. Voices traveled on the wind, but she did not search them out. She knew not why she had come here or if there was something here that could help her, and no curiosity had surfaced as of yet. The past few days had been full of pain and anger for her. She had not been herself since she last saw her father, and the thought of it brought further fury to boil in her heart. She hated whoever had tried to erase her past. It was far too important a thing to try to cover up, and whoever was behind was sure to get quite an opinion out of her when she tracked them down.

"I see..." Vieno said. Well, the journey to Nubai was going to be quite long, they would have plenty of time to think about how they would stay hidden. "So, what is Nubai like...?" he asked as they walked. He had never been there before.

"Nubai?" She asked, "It's a very very small town...Wooden shacks...Not much to describe." She shook her head, sighing. "We're all very poor there...So, we make due with what we can." She spoke on, still walking, "Which is usually not much..."

"Oh..." Vieno said, softly. He thought of his own hometown for a moment. With those thoughts, brought back memories of the people who once lived there. A slender, pale girl, eighteen-years-old, with silky black hair going down to the small of her back. Her eyes were a deep emerald color, you could easily get lost in them if you weren't careful. So delicately-built yet so strong-willed. Without realizing it, Vieno had gone into a trance, absorbed in his thoughts.

Amira glanced over at the man. "What are you thinking about?" She asked, looking at him, tilting her head. Her thoughts began do drift away as well, to someone she loved. To her parents. She could see them so clearly, even though she had not known them for long.

Her words brought him out of his trancelike musing. He contemplated telling her his thoughts, but it would only bring more questions. Questions he probably wouldn't answer. So, he shook his head. "It's nothing." he replied. His eyes held an even sadder look now.

"...Mmhm." She sighed, looking to the ground. "I know the feeling."

Vieno nodded solemnly. "Yeah..." he said, his own eyes traveling to the ground beneath them as they walked. There was silence. Was it awkward? To him, not really. It was more of just plain old silence, the kind he liked.

Young and angry, a friend had so often muttered about Lauren. Her mind was whirring with so many things at once; memories of her made-up past, memories of her real history, friends she had once had, anger for whoever had done this to her. I may never forget it, she thought. Never. Once I find who did this... Her mind then got creative. A few moments later she stopped. The voices were getting louder, and they seemed to be heading straight for her. Her eyes rose slowly from the ground, fading from deep sapphire to pale blue-grey. Weariness had spread over her suddenly. Heart beating weakly beneath her chest, she discarded her anger and tried to keep cautious, but her mind simply wouldn't keep from wandering. Why am I so tired so fast? she wondered. An' why such a bad mood...?

Silence however, was not something Amira felt fine with. She was always around some sort of noise...All the sprits talking to her in the shrine, and all the noise around towns elsewhere. She didn't know what subject to bring up though.

Vieno could sense Amira's anxiety over the silence, so he said something. "So... how old are you?" he asked, completely out of the blue. It was random, yes, but it broke the silence, even if just for a minute or two.
