Okay I shall expain then as wellas I can.

A hermaphrodite is a person who has characteristics of both sexes. There is rarely a true hermaphrodite (I shall explain in a moment). Some such as a friend of mine looks far more feminine than most appear, the curved body, the lithe frame. Ahowver, he is hairy, and quite strong and obviously has a male sex organ. The same occurs with women except for male characteristics such as more muscle mass, heavier build but they are stille ssentailly a woman (more than 80%)

A TRUE hermaphrodite is rare. In those cases the person's DNA actually asays theya re fifty percent male, fifty percent female. They have a small p***s and their genitalia are in the inside and they also ahve a v****a and often, other parts of a female's sex organs. During these cases they often require surgery to become a man since it is considered easier to go through the transition.

The reason for hermaphrodites is complex. In men we have an XY chromosome which makes men well male. They grow a p***s and so on. In hermaphrodites, that Y gene activates too late and the person has a female form but the Y gene is trying to create a male. As a result they have both sexes.Often they are sterile and unable to have children. The reason it is the Y gene that activates alte and not the X gene, is because humans start out as females and develop our sex later on once the chromosome activates. The whole concept of hermaphrodites goes into a much larger conceptand is far mrore xomplex than what i listed. If anyone wants i can always find teh research thorugh EBSCO and post a link for it.

Amazing how everyone ignores my post.

Oh and purple dont use wikipedia on such subjects. Not enough information. To me anyway.

I think hermaphodites are people who were born with both genders expressed, so they have both male and female parts. How it happens, well you got me there.

It happens because of some sort of genetic mutation, but I don't know what that is. The only thing I can think of is that something goes wonky during the mitosis stage after fertilization...

this is kind of gross... but, i find myself curiously intrigued about what half and half genitalia would look like.

Alright since no one stated this little fact (is it on wikipedia?)

There are TRUE hermaphodites in the wolrd. An example of one would be a type of lizard/geko (can't reamember which one, will have to ask my A.P.E.S. teacher) it is an invasive species since it can breed with itself.

Blood`Eternity
In zoology and botany, a hermaphrodite is an organism that possesses both male and female sex organs during its life. In many species, hermaphroditism is a common part of the life-cycle, particularly in some asexual animals and some plants. Generally, hermaphroditism occurs in the invertebrates, although it occurs in a fair number of fish, and to a lesser degree in other vertebrates. Typically, in hermaphrodites belonging to a species in which hermaphroditism is not the norm (humans, for example), reproduction is not possible, but there are some instances in which sperm or ova are capable of conceiving offspring. On very rare occasions, such a hermaphrodite can even impregnate itself, but this will result in complications, such as the offspring having identical DNA to its parent. See Simultaneous Hermaphrodites below.

The term "hermaphrodite" has historically been used to describe people with ambiguous genitalia or biological sex. The broader term intersex is often used and is preferred by many such individuals and medical professionals. However, some of these people do not like the connotations and misunderstanding of the word "intersexed" and thus prefer to use hermaphrodite instead. The term is still used by the pornography industry, though often as a synonym for transsexual, as true human intersexuals are rare.

Ahh, Wikipedia. That unreliable source. surprised Lulz, joke. It's a good source for information but anybody can edit the articles on there.

I wonder what it would be like to do yourself. "HONEY, I MASTERBATED AND NOW I'M PREGNANT."

I watched something on TLC about this. Like this one person was half whit/half black but instead of the nationalities mixing there was a line down the center of their body splitting them in half. On one side they were male, on the other female. Its really cool, but it makes you feel sad for the person with the disorder...
wow.. that would be kind of weird xD lol, you could like sit behind a wall and only put half your body out and act like a girl or a high, you would probably give someone a heart attack if you like did that and jumped out and was a girl/guy on the otherside.

X-X they said she died at like 3 or something v.v sadness
oh... that sucks.

I know. It would be cool except for the fact that she/ he died.

that would be poor her.. umm him? or... heirm?

Hermaphrodites can only produce one type of gamete (sperm or eggs) because the testicles and ovaries start out as the same structure. With the horomones that come from having a Y chromosome they migrate down from the abdomen and drag a couple of strands of muscles down with it (turn your head and cough?) until they end up in the scrotum at whatever age it was that a kid's testicles descend.
These horomones tend to be spread throughout your whole body so it would be really difficult to have one of those structures descend but the other stay up in the abdomen as an ovary.
It might be possible if someone specifically injected the horomones into one of them...
but people typically don't like messing around with humans like that. If there was a way to make money from having someone make both types it might be hard to keep people from doing it in secret but I don't think that's the case.

-but to be frank if you have a Y chromosome but somehow ended up with ovaries the eggs they make don't work but about 50% of all sperm don't have Y chromosomes anyway so those might work in X X people with testicles... might work.

True hermaphrodites have both sex organs on the outside, right?

What is it called when the person has only one outside organ and they have the opposite inner organ? I mean, the person has a p***s and no v****a, but they have ovaries, or they have a v****a but they have inner testicles. I think this makes them sterile, as well.

It's kinda creepy that all humans are in a female form when we are still in our mother's womb...*shivers*

I haven't read much of this thread but I'll explain things...

Sex is the term for physical sexual traits. Sex=Male or Female. Gender is mental. Gender only applies to mentality or social possition.

A hermaphrodite is a person who shares male and female genitalia.

There are also Intersexed individuals. A simple example is a boy with a v****a, or a girl with a p***s. They have the opposeite genitalia, but not both. In all that makes 5 sexual classifications Male, Female, Intersex 1 and 2, and Hermaphrodite.

Hermaphridism could be a birth defect. It could be an unnussual chromosomal trait. It could also be a result of the egg cell splitting like happens in twins but stopping. This often results in extra limbs or even "siamese twins" but can occcur with genitalia as well.

A side note: there are forms of intersex which can involve alteration of the genitalia, like previous mentioned ovaries with p***s type thing, but ussualy those ovaries are non-functioning.

The example of the girl having one half black and the other white is better defined in Chimeras, a person having two sets of complete genes within one body. There have been cases of children being separated from their mother because blood tests proved that the child did not share her genes even though she was impregnated and bore the child.
