Honestly, what's the point in going head to head? I mean, congratulations, you can beat someone at a video game. So what? Last time I checked, video games were for entertainment, not competition and a place to boast about your self-pride.
Last time i checked a Halo 2 team called Final Boss got signed to a 1 million dollar contract to to play Halo 2 competitively.

Your point? That's still not answering my question of why people on XBOX LIVE, not in tournaments, are exercising their 'oh so great skill' to others who don't give a damn by bragging and degrading others.
I don't see why thats your question because that had nothing to do with the orignal post. But ill take a shot at it. Halo 2 is a competitive game, i mean, com'on you run around shooting eachother its going to come out. And if you don't give a damn then why do you care.

Um, no. Halo was created for computers as entertainment, then came the xbox where it was created for that also. Then came Halo 2 and the ability to play online. It's all for fun, it's not about winning. It's just like sports.
And I never said I didn't care period, I just don't give a damn about who thinks they're better than others; I'd like to play a nice, nonranked game without someone shouting,"Owned b***h! Get on the floor!" Anyone who has to brag about being better at a video game has no life and really needs to get over themself.
Indeed Halo was created for the mac as an RTS but once a game becomes a first person shooter people are going to talk s**t. And if its just like sports, sports are competitive. And just for the record im on your side i find s**t talking ridiculas.

Well I'm glad you agree with my opinion, but still, sports were not made for people who only care about winning and boasting. Competition builds as more people play, but video games and sports are, or were, supposed to be for entertainment, and I don't see how it's entertaining when more and more people brag about their skill when they kill you one time.

I don't know, in my mind i see Halo 2 matchmaking kind of like minor league sports you want to win so you can be city champs. Custon games are like pick up games with your firends you don't really care who wins. Sorry if that was a wierd analogy thats just how see halo 2.

No. Video games are always created for fun. Xbox live was meant to enhance your gaming experience, skill, and create friendships online. It wasn't to get so competitive as to call someone names or shout and brag everytime you kill someone. Everything is always created for fun. Halo 2 was for fun. Xbox live was for fun. MLG is for competitors. If they really want to boast about how good they are and how bad at everyone else is then maybe they should shut their mouths for five seconds and see pros whoop their asses. Then they'll see whose better.

Yes Xbox Live was created for fun but with the addition of leader boards and ranks thats make the game competitive, that doesn't make everyone competitive but a good some of people really wanted to be high on the leader boards when they where around. But even with them gone people want to be a high rank to show off to all there firends. And when i play Halo 2 the trash talk usually starts when somone gets a cool kill like a no scope and then they will yell out "Rape, that was sick, wow get owned." out of excitement and then the trash talk escalates from there on.

I know, I told you video games create competition, but it wasn't meant for it. And just because there is competitive nature to a video game, there's no need for cursing and degrading others.

The only reason someone brags about a no-scope is because it was pure luck. There is no purpose no-scope. They brag because they got lucky enough to snipe someone without scoping in, that doesn't make them the best person ever, I've done loads of no-scopes but I don't shout everytime I get one.

But alot of people do curse and degrade others, trash talking in most cases comes hand & hand with competition.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 02, 2006 2:19 pm

Yeah, and so does degrading. By bringing in competition it creates the assumption that some are better than others. But just because someone thinks they are better doesn't mean they can say it. Everyone wants to play to have fun, not to make fun of others. It's pointless to brag about a video game so why do it? It doesn't make you a better person.

I love it when people realize that. If your so good playing against medicore people in MM, go to a tourny and see how long you last there. Then they'll come back home speechless.

And that's why people should play Halo 2: for fun. Sure, it gets competitve sometimes, but no need to have racial slurs or vulgarity over a videogame. Once again, if your so good to talk trash against OK players, go talk some smack in MLG tournies. See how good they do there.

no offense but head to head just about proves everything. it can also prove that you dont always have to rely on your teamate to do things and back you up. your all alone. just you vs one other person. if you ask me it proves who is better and who is not. cool

No it doesn't. Just getting your own kills in matchmaking proves you don't need a team. Or you could just go into Rumble Pit. In a custom head to head, one person gets host which is automatically one advantage over the other person. Then there's where you've been spawned and who gets what weapons first (ex. If one person gets host, the sniper rife and the shotgun the other person pretty much has no chance because that person can snipe them pretty much anywhere, or if the person comes close enough to killing them they can just switch to the shotgun which'll have more damage because of host.) 1v1 does not prove one person is better than the other.

There are ways to balence out host. Such as haveing a BR start so if they get sniper because of a spawn you can shoot back at them and put rifles on map. Plus you can play neutral host.

The only way it would mostly be fair is if someone else created the game. If one person creates the game and it's just them two, host may change the outcome. And head to head really doesn't have rifles only, human weapons are supposed to be on there.

Host may change the outcome but i play 1v1's off host how does that not take skill. And i wasnt awear that there was only one way to play head to head.
