Did he want to be friends with Devyn? A part of him already felt like he was. Another part was unsure if he should let himself get close. Bad things happened when he let his guard down, and he was letting it down a lot with this stranger from another world.
You know he’s not a stranger.
Okay, so in some ways Devyn wasn’t a stranger, but to him, to Michael, he barely knew Devyn. Just because his heart or starseed or whatever it was inside him seemed to quicken when he was around him did not mean he knew anything about Devyn.
Except that he was curious about things, and considerate. He was helpful and, as far as Michael could tell, was honest about things.
It took Michael a little while to say anything else, and when he did he sighed. “I’ll try to take things easy if you try. I wouldn’t want to let my friend down.”

Maybe it would have been easier to hide his smile if they weren’t right in front of a mirror, but Devyn didn’t feel so bad about it even if Michael did catch him.
“I don’t know if you have to worry about me that much right now, I’m not the one who got stabbed recently. I’m taking it very easy. I nap all the time, I eat all the time. It’s been great. I haven’t even been in any fights recently. Although, I was in a few before I met you. But, I don’t think those count. It was just for sport. I’ve got a few bruises but nothing as impressive as back here.”
But, it would heal. If he took it easy.
“Are you competitive? We could always make a challenge out of it, see who could take it easier. Of course, I don’t have any real obligations here, so I suppose I’d be starting off with a bit of an advantage. Until a little bit after breakfast, I always need a run. How does the bandage feel, is that comfortable?”

Michael snorted softly in amusement at Devyn’s suggestion of a challenge. Somehow he didn’t think it would work because neither of them would actually want to take it easy.
“It’ll be a little difficult to run in the snow and ice,” Michael pointed out as he glanced over his shoulder at Devyn. He had seen the smile in the mirror, but he wanted to make sure he wasn’t just imagining it. Devyn had a nice smile, one that made his heart--
Stop that.
It wasn’t him. Or he didn’t think it should be him. He knew how Devyn felt about the person his starseed used to belong to. He had the necklace to prove it.
A necklace that he could very easily give to Devyn right then. To tell him everything he knew. To let him grieve and move on with his life.
Michael had his mouth open, but the words wouldn’t come out. Instead, he reached up to carefully tug his shirt back on once Devyn was done bandaging up his shoulder.
“It feels fine. Thanks,” he said instead, but turned to give Devyn a look over. He was tall. Handsome. Kind of sickly and thin at the moment, but once he had enough food, he should fill out just fine. It was no wonder someone like his past life fell in love with him. And not just because he was an attractive man, but because Devyn was good. Polite and kind and helpful.
Besides, Percy was completely different. Small, cheerful, sweet. Not like Michael who frowned all the time and kept to himself.
“But if you need exercise to burn some of your energy, I’m sure we can figure something out to do in the snow,” he suggested.

Devyn seemed pleased with his first aid skills, if only because Michael said it felt fine. He took a step back to give Michael room to redress. “My boots are good for all weather,” he said, though the boots he’d been wearing when he first powered down here stood out a bit given his particular fashion.
“But, I suppose I don’t know how much ice or snow to expect tomorrow. And, I suppose I’d hate to make a fool of myself tripping all over the place.” He didn't say he wouldn’t, though. “If you’ve got something else in mind, I’m willing to try it. Oh, unless it means you’re not taking it easy.”
But, he smiled again, because he was teasing and wasn’t going to give Michael a hard time. He knew his limits. Devyn would have just rather seen him heal than let his arm get any worse.
“Thank you for letting me look at it. I hope it heals soon, something like that would definitely slow me down a bit. So take care of yourself. Do you want me to head out so you can get to bed? I think I’ll still be up for a bit. I might try to finish that shirt before I head to bed, but I can try to keep it down.”

Somehow, Michael didn’t think Devyn tripping all over himself would be embarrassing. If anything it would be endearing to see him slide around -- as long as he didn’t get hurt.
“We’ll see what it’s like in the morning,” he promised, because he knew it was probably a bad idea to keep devyn cooped up in the house with all that energy. Whether or not he was taking things easy, well… they would just have to see.
“Thanks for your help. Just don’t tell Peter or he’ll never let me hear the end of it,” Michael sighed, because Peter had been bothering him about getting the wound looked at, but he had refused.
For a moment Michael almost said no. But he knew that was ridiculous. He knew he needed to try and sleep (even though he doubted he would), and Devyn was probably trying to politely excuse himself from being around him.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” he said, reminding himself once again that Devyn would likely leave and never come back after he was told everything on Christmas. “Try to get some rest too, though, okay?”

“I won’t tell Peter. I know he worries about you already. And you’re looking after it,” he reasoned. “No point in letting him fuss as long as you’re doing your best to let it heal. But keep an eye on it, you might miss that arm if it just falls off one day.”
He stretched a little bit but as he did so he stepped out of the bathroom and into Michael’s bedroom. The room seemed a little lonely to him, but maybe Michael found comfort in its design. Although, he could really use a nice quilt or something.
“I’ll try to rest,” he promised; he didn’t get a lot of sleep and he knew this–he knew Michael knew this about him–but he seemed to mean it.
“But if the house gets too warm tonight, maybe I can keep you company again.”

“Better this arm than my left,” Michael admitted, but he did roll his shoulder a little to make sure the bandage was still comfortable and gave him some movement without ruining it. Not that he would be completely crippled without his left arm, but it would be more of a hassle to train himself to use his non-dominant hand.
He followed Devyn out into the bedroom and paused again at his offer. It took him a moment to remember that he’d used that excuse the other night when he woke up from a nightmare. It was difficult wanting to be honest with Devyn but also not wanting to give him a reason to worry or be concerned. Or think there was something wrong with him. There was, but it wasn’t anything Devyn could change.
“Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind,” he said, because maybe it was nice knowing someone else might still be awake when he couldn’t sleep.
“Let me know if you need anything. You can wake me up if you need to.”

Devyn smiled still, relaxed and peaceful. Maybe Michael knew what a kind offer he had given, or maybe he was just being courteous, but Devyn really didn’t think it was just manners.
He was probably just a good person.
“Thank you, Michael. I appreciate it.”
He couldn't imagine he'd try to wake him up for anything tonight, if only because Michael was supposed to be resting and if he could make it through the night, Devyn really didn’t want to disrupt that. He’d try to stay out of trouble, and he knew he had what he needed. Food in the kitchen, light over a table, a comfortable chair to work in. He could fix up a few old things, could do something simple, something domestic. Something peaceful.
“The same for you. If you need anything, any time, let me know. But for now, all I need is for you to have a good night. Sleep well, have good dreams.”
