Safe... no one had ever felt safe around me in years. I smiled at this and headed out of the dining room, before heading up to the master bedroom. I jumped on the bed, twisting fluidly in the air to land on my back, and I just cuddled him there. I held him as tight as I dared, like he was a prized teddy to a child that had woken up from a nightmare.

James lay there gazing into her eyes. "Is there anything I can help with? Y-You know to maybe help the rose bushes?" he asked concern in his eyes. Touching her face he kissed the top of her muzzle. It was strange, but he was falling in love with this beast. The more he gazed upon her the more beautiful she was. Though her appearance may have looked horrible, her heart was very kind and sweet. "I don't want to lose you." he stated, "I-I think..I'm falling for you." he blushed. "E-Even though it's been...a few hours. I don't know, something about our meeting seems..magical. Don't you think Tarana?" he asked cuddling with her.

I stopped to think about that. He wanted to help? I felt him kiss the top of my muzzle and him say that he didn't want to lose me and that something had seemed magical about their meeting. I smiled and got up, awkwardly walking over to a wardrobe. I pulled something out of the closet before going to change in another room; when I returned I was wearing a very wide skirt that allowed my legs more freedom of movement, and a looser shirt.
I gestured to him with a claw, leading him out of the room and down the hall. Eventually we came to a room with a large symbol emblazoned upon the door; it looked like an open book and a vial across it. I pushed it open, leading the way inside.
((I think this song is fitting for this part))
Inside was... an alchemy lab. It was large, with tall bookshelves reaching up a couple stories packed with books; along the other wall was tables laden with lots and lots of glass equipment. There were beakers, cauldrons, mortar and pestles, flasks, retorts, alembics, flexible tubes, pots and pans...
Along the furthest wall was shelves laden with... all manner of things. There were jars filled with things like bat wings and eyeballs, tongues, livers, spleens.... there was at least one brain.... (thankfully it was all too small to be human.) Those were all floating in some clear solution. There were jars full of various colorful powders, with roots and leaves and flowers inside. Bottles full of liquids.
I darted over to the bookshelf and started scanning the titles for a specific book... damn, where did I put it?

(lol nice song. xD) James watched her move about without speaking a word. Maybe it was hard for her to talk? Sitting up he scooted to the edge of the bed and waited for her to return. It seemed she was just getting dressed and he quietly followed behind the wolven woman. When they entered the lab he was surprised. Oddly distracted by so many of the objects in her collection he picked up a few jars, carefully, and stared into some of them with odd curiosity. Just who was she? Looking up he noticed Tarana was looking for something. Setting the jar down, carefully, James walked over and tilted his head. "Are you looking for something in particular?" he asked.

I turned to look at him, and I nodded, before looking upward at the higher shelves. Let'see.... There should be a book on botanical potions around here somewhere... must be in the higher shelves.
The bookshelves had brass poles attached to each shelf, making it easier for one to get up and down the bookshelves. It allowed someone to climb the bookshelves.... but with my current state I doubt I could climb it without knocking the whole thing over.
I stepped back to the center of the room. Thankfully there was enough space in here... The room was big enough.
I rolled up my sleeves and held my arms out and away from me. suddenly, before Jame's very eyes, my fingers started to extend. Bone grew and lengthened, muscles shifted shape and position, flaps of skin grew between my fingers. Soon I stood there in the center of the room, my hands and arms had transformed into an absolutely massive pair of bat wings. They were as pale as I was, though fine red fur crept up the thicker part of my arms.
I lifted them and curled them slightly, getting ready for a downbeat. I looked to James and twitched a wing some... a suggestion to get out of the way.

James stared with amazement. Whoever this woman was, she was magic! Watching as she transformed her arms into wings he nodded and got out of her way. Moving to a corner of the lab he watched her with odd curiosity. She hardly spoke, but she always had a lot to say. Though he started to feel a bit bland himself. James had no magical powers, would she be willing to live with him? Maybe even love someone who didn't? Watching her fly up to the ceiling it was clear she was after a book. Was there a cure in one of them? Looking at the bookcase there seemed to be a lot of books sitting on the shelves. Tarana, must have been a very busy woman before she became a beast!

With a great beat of my wings I flew upwards in a tight spiral, before gliding next to the bookshelf to see if I couldn't find that book.
There it was! It was under "B."
Hovering close I reached out with one of the talons of my feet and grabbed the book carefully, before swinging around in the air. With a great flap I went upwards to the celing, still spinning in the air, before I let my wings transform back into a pair of heavily muscled arms.
I fell, the floor coming up to meet me, and I twisted around in the air and landed on my feet like a cat-- one hand gripping the book, the other out as I fell into a crouch to steady my fall as well as my tail.
I stood and opened the book. It was titled "Botanical Alchemy and Potions."
Heading over to the tables covered in glass I crossed a line that had been carefully painted over the floor, bisecting the room neatly into two. I opened the book and placed it on a stand, flipping it open to the page with the altered potions. When it was open I glanced at the ingredients, before I gestured James over with a claw.

James walked over and stood next to her, still amazed at the feats she had been pulling. "You're amazing!" he cooed up to her softly taking one of her arms. It appeared to be some kind of botanical potion book. Maybe she needed him to gather some ingredients? That wouldn't be too hard. Looking down at the book, then up at her, then down to the book, he waited patiently for her instructions. Hopefully they could do something about her voice so she could talk again.

I gave a happy and playful growl and I licked his face at that.
I showed him the list of ingredients on the page, including some additions scrawled on the margins in very careful neat handwriting. I nodded to the shelf with the ingredients; they should be clearly labeled... I just hoped we had enough.
I meanwhile pulled out two golden bracers from under a table and fiddled with them, before clasping them onto my forearms. They were heavily gemmed and they glowed and adjusted to my size.

Giving a nod he gently kissed her furry cheek then walked off to the shelf, coming and going as he gathered all of the ingredients. James wondered what the bracelets were for. Just what was she planning on doing? "This should be everything I think." he quietly said double checking the book to make sure. "Then again I really don't know..." (OOC: sorry it's been a while, you wanted him to go to town to get an ingredient right?)

((Yep.))
I looked at the ingredients he had gathered, and I waved a large clawed hand. The bottles and jars floated up and around, as I looked at them all. I nodded to myself, before pointing to an ingredient in the book-- one that James realized wasn't on the shelves... It looked to be a specific kind of root that he might be able to find in town.

Lucky for them both, that was a root that was commonly grown around these parts. "Alright I'll be back then. I promise." he said taking her hand and kissing her fuzzy cheek before double-checking to see how much root he needed. The town wasn't that busy that morning, so no one seemed to pay him any attention. So for the most part buying the root wasn't that hard, until he felt a hand softly grab his wrist. Looking up he stared into the eyes of his mother. " James!" she cried hugging him. " Did that monster let you go! No don't tell me, you killed it didn't you!?" He frowned a bit and shook his head. "No mother! I came down here to buy some roots for a dish I'm preparing my wife. How could you, those roses were tied to her life!" His mother pulled back and stared at him, tearing up she bit her lip. " Oh no! She's bewitched you!" she cried. " My son! Please you must return to me! Forget that monster! She'll just gobble you up!" she pleaded. "No mother, I am not bewitched. I'm..in love. Besides you were the one who promised my hand to her, so if anything this is your fault! I do not know if I want to come back home, even if I had the choice!" he grumbled pulling away from the sobbing woman as she tried to grab for him. James slipped away but she was left crying as a small crowd began to draw to her in the square. He had taken a bit longer than he wanted to but he entered the castle and softly set the basket of roots down upon the alchemy table. Looking around, it seemed that his wife wasn't in the room? Where did she go?

From an enjoining room he heard a loud BANG! which shook the building.
A door he hadn't seen before opened and out spilled black smoke. I stepped out, coughing and hacking, holding my hands up as if cupping something. A bowl floated infront of me, holding a fine grey ash.
Waving a hand the bowl settled onto the table, and I started to sneeze several times.

James heard the rumble and stopped in fear of what was going on. Suddenly she burst out of the room covered in soot and coughing. "Oh my gosh! Honey are you alright!?" he asked rushing to her side, immediately pulling a rag from his pocket and wiping her face. "What were you doing in there!?" he asked with concern. She wasn't trying to blow herself up was she?

I stopped sneezing, thankfully, as he started wiping my face clean of the soot. I blinked at him, before licking the side of his face appreciatively. My tail wagged.
I gestured to the bowl of ash, before the ashes floated into the air. They floated into the air like a little spiral trail, before funneling themselves into a beaker.
I saw the basket and smiled-- he had enough of the root!
