Julia

Hostage situations, just what they needed. She had to hand it to them, they were certainly pushing the line on bandit originality, as much merit as that was. Sure, a hostage situation wasn't exactly new but this one actually had some thought behind it. Use your own opponent's values and ideals against them. She was somewhat impressed, but she was certainly not happy. Leena, stranger or not, was far too young to be put in that sort of situation, especially with the desperation tactics that followed. The bluff of an attack by their dragon ally, the guilt of having their leader put down his weapon and offer himself in her stead...She was having none of it. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Thankfully, her allies were more than capable. Marina's involvement was enough to detain him for the moment, just in time for Leena to get the type of retribution that brings music to your ears. A quick kick to where the sun doesn't shine and you think the hill's themselves sing. "I think I'm going to like her." A chuckled escaped from her lips as she took up her lance once more, descending down on the retreating bandit. Her dive came with the shaft of her lance swept towards his legs, much to his delightful frustration. "I don't think the little lady really appreciated what you did. Would you like to come quietly or shall I just continue? Or shall one of us put one right between those pretty little eyes of yours?" She gestured towards the archers and the rest of the part, most not skipping a beat to take advantage of the confusion of the situation. After all, most of the lackey bandits weren't exactly the best at thinking on their feet. In charge one moment and then your boss at the mercy the next? They could care less about him but...

It would mean they had to think! Oh the sheer torture of it all! Free-thought! Maybe they could take up painting now! See the sights, build a cabin like they always imagined when they were young! Maybe go back to that sweetheart waiting for them back home, back before they were bandits...No, that was absolutely stupid, considering the arrows knocked in their direction. Julia just directed a smirk at Celso's direction, twirling the lance in hand before renewing her grip. She prepared for another charge, this time the look in her eye shifted from vigilante play to full-blown cold murderous rage.

"You're not getting away from me. You ******** with a lady, pal, and that means you ******** with me."

User Image The flapping of the pegasus' wings alerted him just in time of the rider's presence and he dove to the side, rolling close to the side of the wagon. Celso looked up at the pegasus rider, eyes nearly popping out of his head as she shouted at him like a hardened army general. "These... these bitches is crazy, see...!"

Looking around, he realized where he had dove and saw that he was now around several swordsmen. They did.. they did not look happy. Celso gulped and discretely took a handful of dirt which he then flung out at them to distract them while he got to his feet and ran off. Come quietly? As if- he was getting the heck out of there! Get trampled by a flying horse while its rider laughed manically? Yeah no, that was NOT on the menu. If he could just make it into the forest, he could use his knowledge of the terrain and his stealth to slip away. And none of the enemy had gone into the forest.. that he had seen.

- Kierkess Renvald -

Having only spared a few glances at what he'd designated the "dragon area" in-between his most noble work of archer-hunting, Kierkess had only a vague mental grasp of the delicate hostage situation that had just transpired. Tragically, he was also unawares of the nut-shot Leena had delivered unto the fellow who'd had the fortune of keeping his head on longer than it had any business doing so. But, given that he'd been so late to that party, it seemed the gods above (did this not-Rausten land have gods?) had given him a bit of a consolation prize. He didn't often get a chance at taking down the leader of a pack. The mooks, certainly, and the odd monster here and there, but not the boss.User Image

"Ohhhh..." groaned a voice from below the red knight. Kierkess spared a curious glance past his pilfered horse's head and then to the sides, trying to locate the source of the sound. Then his eyes lit up in realization, having only now just remembered that he'd had Bedivere trample over a longbowman moments before...well, after cutting him down. Yes, that might have been a bit of overkill, but Kierkess's intent had been as innocent as ending the poor man's suffering. Internal bleeding would probably take over from here, though the axe knight would be the first to admit he didn't know how much suffering that in itself would cause. Oh well. At least the distinct lack of arrows coming at the caravan meant he'd been a good team player.

Refocusing back on the bandit boss that had the distinct form of a Pegasus in hot pursuit, Kierkess didn't bother loitering around any longer and instead forced Bedivere forward full gallop. The bandit probably wouldn't be able to avoid the scarlet blur that was about to lop off his head with extreme prejudice, so Kierkess instead glanced to the pegasus knight with some concern. He foresaw a hilarious misunderstanding in the future wherein he'd approach the bandit from one side and the pegasus would come from the other, resulting in a last minute dodge that culminated into what may have been the first documented instance ever of a horse crashing into a flying horse.

Now having ingrained that horrifying scenario into his head, Kierkess raised his halberd (delightfully smeared with blood) into the air as if to say "I got this, you girly feather horse" and was upon Celso in moments, swinging his axe blade down on the bandit in a beautiful and rather relentless arc.

User Image Celso skid to a halt as he saw the horseman dart of from the forest with a bloodied axe. Well that answered the question about what had happened to all his archers. As the horseman galloped towards him, Celso immediately turned around and began to run the other way. But then he remembered that horrifying girl on the pegasus that was also after him. He was running right for her! "Yous gotta be kiddin' mes....!"

He didn't have much time to react as the horseman was already swinging at him. All he could do was dive to the side. He managed to narrowly avoid the axe, though his cloak didn't quite make the cut... or rather, it did. After rolling, Celso jumped to his feet, pulled out a throwing knife and flung it at the red cavalier, putting his attention on what was before him and not on what may have been behind him.

- Kierkess Renvald -

Coming off headless from the close encounter, Kierkess immediately set Bedivere to come back around to get another pass at that slippery b*****d that had escaped a quick and easy death. After he'd refocused on the target bandit, however, the red knight noticed the glint coming from inside the man's cloak just before the knife was chucked at him. Rather than dodge, however, Kierkess simply stared at it as it came ever closer... User Image

...And harmlessly bounced off his moderately armored torso with a slightly annoying sound as the only casualty. Looking decidedly unimpressed, the normally battle-frenzied blood knight just sort of cast a sidelong glance at the knife on the ground and then back at the bandit. "...Mhm. Right. Well, I just thought it'd interest you to know that pitying the imminent loss of your life has now decisively been struck from my list of things to half-consider." With that, the axe knight urged Bedivere forward once more with renewed vigor, brandishing his halberd as if it weren't the weighted and unwieldy weapon it obviously was. Rather than going for a pass this time, Kierkess instead came up to Celso and positioned Bedivere to the side so that the axe knight could face the bandit and get in some stationary swipes. This he did, bearing down on Celso and bringing down his halberd. Naturally, it was a strike to kill and not to capture.

[Basically, he's positioned like the Fire Emblem 9 Axe Cavaliers/Paladins.]

"Yeah, sure," Marina stated towards Leena. "We're all-- <********>"

She withdrew her hand quickly as Celso had slipped from her grasp, jabbed at her hand, and wriggled off. She groaned as she watched him sulk off and quickly get himself surrounded. The little p***k hadn't yet realized he'd messed with the wrong people today! Withdrawing her lance once again, she sighed. "Gotta take care of this..." Marina hopped down from the perch and made her way between the horses over to the center of action quickly. She twirled and pointed her lance, and if the guy tried to run, he'd find himself on the end of it.

User Image The horseman was coming again and Celso turned to run, but stopped at the site of that woman pointing her spear at him. His surprise at seeing her behind him was obvious. "...Yous again?! How-" As the sound of galloping stopped, he turned back and fixated his attention yet again on the horseman as the axe came swinging down. There was no time to avoid, the woman had distracted him and kept him from getting away. The axe dug deep into his left shoulder. A few seconds later, he sank to his knees and then collapsed on his side. "...So many... guild members... Why...?"

The thief died with his eyes still open, full of shock. The other bandits were either dead or already gone. The attack had cost the lives of most of the raiding party, but their overall goal had been achieved...

He walked over and looked down at the dead thief, seeing the obvious trauma he had suffered from some of the females of the group in his eyes. Even Leena, who had handled herself much better than Rath expected, did her part. It could be seen as mercy that the bandit was ultimately ended by Kierkess instead of Marina or the pegasus knight. "...That ends that."

He looked away and got the attention of one of the soldiers. "I want a report on everyone's condition as well as the state of our wares immediately."

After the soldier nodded and went off to do the task he was given, Rath looked around at everyone. "Is everyone fine? If you have an injury, do not hesitate to speak up." He then walked over to Leena. "I'm sorry you had to go through that, Miss. We did not guard you well enough. However, the way you handled yourself... impressive. I'll be certain not to underestimate you any longer."

Sister ۩ Victoria

Ѻ ⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹ ф ⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹ Ѻ

Victoria's life hadn't exactly gone as planned since he arrived in Eyris. Although there were a few good things that happened, she never in her wildest dreams thought that a war would break out after she arrived. For the longest time she had helped out with the clinics back in Eyris, but after a while, using her healing gift was not as fulfilling. Although she was fulfilling her holy mission, it felt like there was something lacking.

That something was people close to her. Although she was a great healer and a light mage, the bishop never felt any true connections. Without connections, there was nothing to hold her down. Even though she had helped the guild save Rath the previous year, Victoria remembered her vows of modesty. She didn't take any of the credit. That all went to the man's daughter.

So she became a wanderer, again. It wasn't really a surprise that she would choose the life of a missionary over staying in one place. It had been where she was all the time she was grown. Moving from chapel to chapel, using her gift wherever people needed her, no matter how near or far. This was her true calling. Of course, she couldn't take enough steps to avoid the war completely. As a matter of fact, despite making it this far, Victoria still heard the sounds of battle. The screams of a fallen enemy.

The lady bishop approached this scene with caution. She readied her staff and trusty Divine tome for any confrontation. However, by the time she arrived, it seemed like everything was already over. A bandit seemed to have come on the receiving end of some angry, armed, and dangerous group. When Victoria approached them, her eyes widened in surprise. She knew a few of these faces already.

"If it isn't the FEF guild! It's been such a long while since we've last seen each other." Victoria exclaimed pleasantly. She eyed their small company, immediately scowling upon the sight of them. Although a lot of them were formidable fighters or accurate archers, she didn't see a single healer, especially not one of her capabilities.

"Say, Vice Captain. Rath, right? Do you think you'll be in need of my gifts? Bandages and vulneraries will only get you so far. What do you say? If any of your company are injured, I would be happy to use my staff to make them good as new." she stated with a wink. Her sweet words were probably an offer the nomad couldn't refuse.

Sue was concentrating on picking off the archers. When the commotion of the hostage situation came up, there was nothing she could do. She wasn't going to give into the demands of hostage takers, of course. That would go against all of her beliefs. Sue thought that FD's flametongue, even at that level was going too far. The poor shop keeper must have been terrified!

Luckily, the situation had been dealt with quickly. Thanks to the moves of both Marina and Kierkess, the bandit that had led the attack on the conboy had been brought down. It was a relief to see that the team was more than capable of bringing down any threats that came to it. Now that the chaos was finally over, Sue could lower her bow. She still kept it gripped in her hand in case of any unexpected follow-ups of the ambush.

Sue could visibly see that Rath was faring well. "What a foolish thing for you to do though, father. To offer yourself up like that? It truly would have set us back, even if you had a plan!" She was thinking it, but Sue didn't say it. Instead she rode to his side, ears open for the status of the group and their inventory.

The nomad trooper felt a sting in her left arm. Looking down, she noticed a small cut on her forearm. It wasn't really deep, but it still ached a lot. "It's just a scratch. Just a little vulnerary can take care of it." Sue reported to Rath out loud. She took the bottle from her supply pack, and begun to pour its healing liquid over where she was hit. Sue overheard the discussion with the lady bishop and hoped that Rath would let her come along. They needed all the helping hands possible.

It came as a relief that the situation was over so quickly. Marina, Julia, and Kierkess all worked together to bring down the bandit menace. "Maybe it wasn't a mistake leaving the shop after all." the merchant's thoughts concluded. She didn't even flinch when the red-clad knight delivered the final blow. As a matter of fact, it was kind of satisfying to her.

She turned her attention to Rath, who complimented how Leena handled her situation. In turn, she briefly curtsied to the Vice Captain, showing he respect to the one in charge. "Ah, sir, I'm truly flattered. Really, if it wasn't for the others upholding the guild motto, I don't think I would have done so well. I was scared for a moment until they all came to help. But I'm fine now." she told him. It was probably best she didn't lie about how she felt. False bravery would get her nowhere.

"But anyway, I was the one who volunteered to take your group's convoy. I felt it would be the only way I could help you all. Risks come along with that." Leena added.

The shop keeper climbed back onto her wagon again, beginning to look over the group's wares shortly after her conversation with their nomad leader. Hopefully, the bandits did not take too much. Digging through a small pack that she carried on her back, Leena took out a small list, beginning to look over all the inventory that was in the convoy, checking to see what was there. Quite a few of the valuables, like more expensive weapons and gems had been pilfered, but the sturdy iron weapons and their food rations seemed to be mostly untouched.

"Bandits to the core, they were. They only took the things they could sell for a higher price." she thought with disgust.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Rath grinned at Leena's understanding nature as she went back to her wagon and began taking inventory along with the soldiers. He would have to make sure she was more properly guarded for the rest of their journey.

His attention was then drawn by Sister Victoria's arrival. It was sudden, late, but there was no reason to turn down her offer to help. "I'll leave the company's injuries to you, then."

At that moment, the soldier came back and delivered his report. Afterwards, Rath called everyone together to convey their status and next move. "We suffered no casualties or severe injuries; we are able to move on. I have learned that the team from Cloak has lost a member, who was captured by the bandits that seek to impede us. I have also learned that in this attack, they managed to pilfer a good deal of medical supplies from our wares as well as our rations. We cannot afford to proceed without what has been stolen from us. Thus, we have no choice but to go after these brigands. We know the direction they fled in... and tracking them will not be a problem. Guild members, prepare to move out."

He turned to Leena. "Unfortunately, their direction takes us through the thick forest, so I believe it would be best if you stayed here and awaited our return. I will leave the soldiers to look out for you, and I also have somebody else in mind..." He turned to FD. "You are a great asset in battle, but our fight will take us to a fort, where transforming will be an issue. It would be hard to recover our belongings from a crumbled building, and I doubt Cloak would like digging up the corpse of their teammate from the rubble... I would ask of you to keep watch over Leena, until the rest of us return. Is this acceptable with the both of you?"

Fire Dragon

When Celso had thrown a knife at FD, he was still obviously looking at the Thief. He could see the weapon coming and quickly moved out of the way, of course. By the time he could place his attention back on their opponent, enough people had crowded the area and surrounded Celso that there was no point or opportunity to go back into his dragon form. The fiasco quickly enough resolved itself, the leader of the bandits that had tried ambushing them dead.

The dragon then went over to where Leena and Rath were. He intended to apologize to the shopkeeper for what she had to undergo just now. And here, the Vice Captain was already setting him up with a great opportunity as her guard for a while.

Right before he could respond however, his acquaintance, the Lady Victoria had suddenly joined their ranks. “Bishop Victoria, so good to see you again. With you here, I know we need not worry about injuries! We must catch up at some point if we’re to be in the same company. Such opportunities are ever rarer with all that is going on.”

After Rath addressed the dragon, FD responded in turn, “Certainly, Vice-Captain. I know my abilities and their inhibitions.” And indeed he did. While there were building FD could be transformed in – Temple with the Dragon’s Gate, for example – they were obviously few and far between. No, obviously the Fire Dragon could do his best in outdoor battles. “You need not worry about anyone who stays behind. If you do need my assistance there for whatever reason, however, send word through someone or a signal or something to that effect and I’ll be there to roast or rend whatever requires it.” There was a Pegasus Rider with this Cloak group, after all. If anything became amiss, Rath could ask that she relay information, FD imagined.

And as the dragon would now be guarding Leena for the time being, he had an opportunity to speak to her directly as well: “My apologies for putting you so close to my attack, Miss… Leena, I believe?” Although the shopkeeper was quite well known around Learania for her wares and such, FD had never spoken with her personally and knew little about her other than that she ran the shop she did. And obviously FD had no need for most wares, being his own weapon and having the defenses he did. He continued: “Please know I had absolutely no intention of actually harming you. I’m sure you’re aware no one in the group would ever consider actually letting you get hurt or hurting you.”

- Kierkess Renvald -

"Hah! Haha!" boomed Kierkess, looking as if he'd cheered up slightly from that disappointment he'd exhibited a few moments before. However, the red knight's shoulders then slowly sagged downward and he heaved a sigh. "Nope, not feeling it. 'Least those bow-guys aimed, this guy just threw a knife and ran around." If anyone were to wonder who Kierkess was supposed to be talking to whilst alone with the corpse, the correct answer would be "his horse". User Image

Another reason for Kierkess's loss of steam was the fact that killing the boss of these easily sliceable band of cowards amounted to very little in the long run. Oh, sure, he could boast about killing the leader, but how could he expect anyone to congratulate him if he himself remained so unsatisfied? Oh well, there was always next time...

Kierkess was suddenly brought out of his reverie by Bedivere's shifting in place, as if the horse was trying to tell him something. Blinking, Kierkess realized his axe head had been embedded in Celso's shoulder this whole time. "Drat, dozed off again..." he muttered, pulling the halberd out after jostling what it was connected to a bit in order to avoid any spatter. The blade was already dirtied, but it was better not to make an unsightly mess regardless. By the time he'd recovered both his frequently misplaced senses and his trusty axe, Kierkess had already missed Rath's call for the injured and Victoria's arrival. Oddly enough, though, despite the red knight's best efforts, he remained virtually unscaved apart from a few nicks and scratches on his armor.

Still, he did need to do something about the blood on both his sword and his axe. The poor things would rust if not properly attended to, after all. And he'd probably have to be quick since Wrath - who was likely teased in his youth for having such a name - informed them that they'd be moving out soon. Kierkess directed Bedivere in the direction of Leena's wagon, taking care to make sure he arrived before it got crowded by too many of the others needing a resupply or a vulnerary. See, it was imperative for Kierkess to get there first because he didn't need much of anything. So the guys who needed stuff could just wait a bit.

Having come to the convoy, Kierkess dismounted from his faithful and stolen steed. Giving whoever else was in the way a berth of no more than a few inches, the red knight addressed the wagon-woman (Leena, if the name he'd heard from mysteriously close-by was referring to her) whilst resting his bloodied halberd over one shoulder and holding his sword loosely to his other. "Ah, pardon me lady, but I was wondering if I might borrow a-" A momentary clatter cut him off just then, given that he'd just dropped his sword against the end of the wagon until it had fallen to his feet. "Apologies, one moment..." Kierkess bent down to pick it up, his axe swinging dangerously close to an allied skull in the process. If any commanding guild member saw this clumsiness, they'd probably want to take care to keep him far-away from non-combatants like Leena in the future.

Once Kierkess had straightened up, he went on as if nothing had happened. "Anyway, yes, might I have something to clean these with? Thanks."

While she was busy straightening up the inventory that was left after the bandit raid, Leena listened in as Rath gave his orders to the rest of the troop. She heard that some of them would be going on ahead into the thick forests, but not all. It was only logical. "But the fact that I have to stay behind so soon, Vice Captain? Surely I can be more help! It's what I want to say, but I don't want to disobey orders." the merchant thought as as he looked toward Rath to simply acknowledge his next move.

"Yes sir! I'm grateful for anyone you leave behind to assist me!" she exclaimed, placing her hand over heart. It was her form of a salute, since she was a civilian and not a soldier. Although she was nervous that FD was going to be a part of the forces left behind to guard her, she tried not to show it.

When the redhead apologized for the incident earlier though, she couldn't stay nervous for long. "Ah, not to worry! You only did what you had to, right? It might take me a while, but I'll learn to trust you. I don't think that the Vice Captain would leave you at my side if you weren't trustworthy." Leena continued, trying to reason out loud. She was half trying to assure herself, and half trying to appear brave to FD. The merchant did not want to appear cowardly to anyone when she was the one who stepped up as a volunteer convoy driver.

Just as all the scary things were over though, Kierkess's approach startled her. His direction of his axe was also quite frightening. She found herself taking a couple steps back when the red-clad knight asked if there was something to clean off his weapon left. "O...Oh, sure!" Leena stuttered for just a moment. She was ashamed to hear her voice shake again, but the red headed axe knight looked terrifying with his weapon all bloodied like that.

"Here you go, sir." Leena told him, handing out a rag that was used for all purpose cleaning and armor-shining. "Just be careful where you swing that! We only want it to hit the enemy..." she added, timidly averting her eyes from Kierkess's axe blade.
