Marcelyn frowned. That was it? Push up off the ground with your feet? It seemed easy enough, but she kept quiet as she thought if she spoke now something would go awry.

You can do it, Marce. You can surely do it. She spoke silently in her head.

She smiled and grasped the broom in her hands before positioning it between her legs. Firmly, she clamped her legs around the broom before pushing off the ground.

"Interesting," Aizalin said, grabbing his broom with both of his hands. He looked at the professor and smiled. Flying was like nothing he had ever seen before. He always wanted to be a quidditch player and could not wait for his second year to try out for the team.

Looking over to Abby, he wondered why she wouldn't want to fly a broom. It seemed like she wanted to be in control of the way she rode the broom? Didn't everyone ride their broom in this way? Sure he had read muggle books and watched anime about witches that could fly in every which way, but wasn't that all fiction? He was pretty curious. He would surely have to ask the girl later on.

Turning back to his seemingly impatient broom, he pushed it under his legs. This was either going to be as simple as the Professor Drake had demonstrated or hard and painful. He wondered what it would be like to be hit with the hard wood of the broom. Aizalin flinched. Though he could take the pain, after living in his home, but he preferred to deal pain rather than receive it. Calmly, the boy did as told and pushed up off the ground.

Louis frowned so the Gryffindors could get their brooms off the ground. Big deal, let's see them actually get into the air! Even his opinion of the teacher dropped a few notches as her tone betrayed her own house loyalties.

Slytherin's would show them. He straddled his broom, arranging his robes so they didn't bunch unattractively. He'd only seen his mother ride a couple times as she usually took other means of transport. His father, being a muggle, couldn't fly a broom even if a flock of doxies were on his tail. That didn't deter the boy from his own self assured confidence. Of COURSE he would be a great flier, he was his mother's son, a child of the Greco wizarding family, and eldest of his siblings. He was going to be the prize winner, the one to set the bar high for the rest of them. With those thoughts, he kicked hard at the ground, urging his broom upwards.

The unfamiliar feeling of his feet leaving the earth startled Louis and his precarious balance wavered for a moment. Thankfully he was able to regain his dignity and stop the broom about where the teacher wanted it...maybe he was a little high but he wasn't about to humiliate himself in adjusting. He didn't mind sitting a little higher than his classmates after all.

Brian didn't really care who was in which house for him they were all classmates so her was glad that not too many had problems getting their brooms.

Turning to the girl who was screeching at the teacher he just shook his head and idly wondered if she'd fail the class for being difficult. Gripping his broom tightly he stomped his foot over the broom and pushed off the ground with both feet.

The feeling of being in the air felt liberating to the Slytherin male and he let go with one hand. "Whoo Hoo! This is Awesome!" In his excitement the broom wobbled and he dropped his hand to hold on with both again.

Dew smiled. She was ready for anything after flawlessly getting her broom to lift off the ground. She was going on a whim of hope as she confidently moved. She was quick to position herself on her broom and pushed off.

Marcelyn's heart skipped a beat when the broom lifted off the ground and she was about the height of Professor Drake. She didn't feel confident to remove her hands from the broom as it wobbled, so she kept them firmly on the broom. I did it!

Aizalin kept a firm hold on the broom as the broom jolted up about three feet higher than it was supposed to. He frowned. This simply was not done. Aizalin needed to be in command of the broom. The broom needed to listen to him. Settling his eyes on the professor, who he knew would get angry if he didn't do something soon, he spoke to the broom. He said, "Go down. Now." The broom wobbled a bit but didn't budge. This time he moved his eyes to the broom and demanded, "Move down!"

The broom, finally knowing who's boss, moved down to about the level of the professor. Smiling, he mumbled to the broom, "good."

The class was moving fast with little trouble other than a screamer. Nerine cast the girl an 'unamused' look. She hated being idle and anything that delayed their progression was an irritant. The instructions to mount their brooms was welcome when it came.

Nerine slid her leg over the gnarled old broom at her fingertips. It began it's trembling excitement the moment she settled into place and she had to still it once again. It was strange how the object acted like a living creature with movements and readable emotions. She would have to remember this broom if it flew well for her. It didn't seem like it would take well to being locked up in the closet again.

She tightened her grip on the handle before her and kicked off of the ground, lavender eyes skyward.

Dew smiled brightly as her broom, yet again, worked it's magic flawlessly. She was up in the air without wobblings or the incidents she had expected before the class even began. The broom halted where she had told it to and her smiled was still on her face. Normally, she would be snickering at the other students who weren't doing as good as her, but she didn't want to ruin her luck.

As easily and eagerly as the broom had risen to her hands, it shot into the air. She halted their upwards progression quickly, startled by it's enthusiasm. Was this mostly to do with her or the broom itself? The boundaries between the two's excitement were blurred. Nerine felt almost giddy in her seat, the feeling of having nothing between her and the ground but her own magic was more than she could express in words. This felt nothing but right.

Nerine took a moment from her own triumph to glance at the rest of the students, urging them quickly to finish this stage of the lesson so they could get to the actual flying!

Leoben placed his broom in between his leg like the professor instructed, but before he jumped off the ground like some sort of rabbit, Leoben took a glance around. It looked like everyone was being pretty successful--though he... was a bit curious as to how the instructor would act when one of the Slytherin girls refused to get on her broom. It'd be a shame if she got detention for that, Leoben cracked his fingers out of habit.

He was distracted, however, at some yelps and some screams. Yikes, Leoben thought, looking to see if their owner was alright.

After that was done, he finally pushed himself off the ground.

Leoben managed to stabilize himself once he was up, quickly tucking his feet near the bristles of the broom. He couldn't help but smile--even if it was just hovering, he was flying!

Leoban glanced at the other Gryffindors to see how they were fairing.
