And then what happens? The thing's on its back, and the legs are shot. Then marauders open the ridiculous bubble and kill the crew.

Now I never said that was the perfect design. Just sayin' that a mecha wouldn't have to be bipedal.

Well, what about the Lost Planet (the first game) kind of mechs? Sure, they're used on an icy planet and consume thermal energy like steroids to even move. But couldn't prototypes be made with some kind of other fuel source to power it? Those are mostly plausible what with the armor, though they're not in space.

No, they're not. Read the previous posts, and you'll see why. Space fighters are the only logical way to go.

Or Mech Assualt ones would be doable. Way more expensive, if you've played the game, but relatively doable.

Why not just get a blend of both for the space fleet?

Because, if your enemy has a fleet of 100 fighters, and you have fifty fighters and a few mecha, the enemy pilots will decimate the mecha before they have a chance to react properly. Then the sheer numbers of their planes would overwhelm you. And don't say "just send out more mecha" because that only costs the military more money, and raises the deathtoll.

It'll end when we're all dead and there still aren't any mecha.

But isn't that what worthwhile space engine drives are supposed to be for? In order for both the space fighters and mecha to mobilize faster?

Javier Cross But isn't that what worthwhile space engine drives are supposed to be for? In order for both the space fighters and mecha to mobilize faster? What the hell are you even talking about? Also...@Utena: I'll believe it when I see it. And I'm not talking about a proof-of-concept toy. I'm talking real, live, operation and applied military tech. If that's the case, it'll never happen. Our military's researching space fighters, not mecha.

Such as man-made viruses, or the use of rail guns, they've been looking at that since WWII
