Though this isn't actually him here, I agree with what Darren has posted in his blog, and I think that we really need to remember that Repo! The Genetic Opera is the original, and like most, if not all things, the original is always better, and as such I think we really do need to remember that "WE STARTED THIS OPERA s**t!" and believe that Repo! will prevail over this rip-off.
And @ Ridley Wolf, I totally loled.

With all the amazing Repo! fans out there, this movie shouldn't be much of a threat. If anything, the moviegoers will learn more about the original (and better) movie, once they realize this movie fails at life.

A lawsuit will probably be filed just before the Repo Men release to boost it's sales. This will show the world how imbecilic the creators of Repo Men are, and how much superior Repo! the Genetic Opera is.

Ridley Wolf So... I just had a completely original idea for a movie. It's about a nerdy teenager who gets bitten by a genetically altered spider and gets superpowers. I'm thinking of calling it "Spider-Dude." I'll bet I could get Universal to make it. *chokes laughing no, i think you could do it. potentially make big bucks. give it a go.
anyway-- i wholeheartedly agree with the comments on how we shouldn't try to force feed our Repo! to others, but i was in the midst of a serious fit of pique when i posted this topic.
while i do feel like we should do something, it maybe shouldn't be so loud and obnoxious. like i said, the sort who like the shoot 'em ups generally dislike movies with people speaking in sing-song, no matter how awesome. we CAN hope this movie flops hard, we CAN tell people the story of our Repo! and how it was stolen and wronged.
annoying the masses wouldn't be in the best interests of our movie-- we don't want to be known as that fandom. we're already strange enough. let's just get the love for Repo! out, and seethe and rage in places like this, where it won't make our beloved film look bad.
and, someone said it was old news? it was, but i'd just heard about it, and the movie is supposed to be coming out sometime around March/April, i believe. not so far away. thought if there was anyone worth sharing the news with, it was this group.
anyone else have anything interesting to offer up?

Just a reminder to please make sure you read this thread guys. It really is important to remember that how we respond to Repo Men reflects on the entire fandom, the movie itself, and its creators.

It does look like an okay movie.
I guess all I can do is spread the word of Repo! The Genetic Opera to those who like Repo Men. I mean, if they are going to be so similar, it's safe to assume that I can suggest it.

Ok. That movie doesn't even look good. Honestly? It looks like s**t. Main character and his best friend(who ends up turning on him later, but possibly not really?), "the hunter becomes the hunted", he bangs some chick along the way... While the premise sounds good (Duh, it's identical to Repo!) the whole mechanical organs and fluffy light atmosphere make what should be a dark story some romantic Jude Law Bullshit.
The only redeeming features of this film are Liev Schreiber, Forest Whitaker and Jude Law. And those three alone don't look like enough to make it even worth seeing in my opinion.
I also don't agree with suggesting the real Genetic Opera to people who like this movie. Because the audience for a film like this is the opposite audience we want. They're seeing it for the action, for the atmosphere that is supposed to be sci fi but just looks carbon copied from old high tech thrillers. And what is true sci fi but original and fantastic? To love Repo! you've got to actually have a brain, a love for unique stories and beautifully crafted (if disturbing) worlds (even if they are only so on the surface).
So, with the utmost respect, ******** you Universal. Nothing short of a bomb attached to my spine will make me see this movie. True I'm part of this Genetic Opera, but I refuse also because your movie looks like s**t with an all star cast. And I've had quite enough of that.
EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that I'm "bashing". I'm going to keep my anger right here though. I won't throw blood on moviegoers or blast Blind Mag from my car outside the theater. This is all I'm gonna say. Hope it makes sense, and doesn;t make me sound like too big of a douchebag. I also hope the movie tanks, and I'm fairly sure it will.

I disagree; it is possible for people to like mainstream action movies and also like something like Repo! Hell, I showed it to my sister-in-law who normally likes things like Mamma Mia! and Mr. & Mrs. Smith and she really likes it and has been very supportive. She helped me get a Pavi costume together. There's also the chance that some of the Repo Men fans will be younger (13/14-ish) or just not exposed to movies outside of the mainstream and so they're hungry for something different, but just don't know that something like Repo! exists.
Basically all I'm saying is that I don't think we should be picky about who will or won't like Repo! because there's no way to know.
As for bashing the movie itself, I don't encourage it, but as long as you don't insult fans and make sure to keep things civil, I don't think there will be a problem.
And I'd just like to add that even Terrance Zdunich is wishing the makers of Repo Men well. Either he's lying through his teeth or he's just that classy. XD

XD In the atmosphere I'm used to (very sports driven college campus) There really is a difference. There are the Repo Men type and the Repo! type, and a distinct line between them (And of course the people who wouldn't like either). I'm just saying that among the people I know suggesting something like Repo! to a blockbuster action fan would be like asking an anti-Semite to light a menorah. So while it's definitely possible, the appeal of OperaHorror to the average person is highly unlikely. (Has found this out the hard way several times)
Also, thank you for trying to instill a bit of civility, but even from a non Repo! standpoint I think the movie looks terrible and cliche in it's development and characters, after all how many amazing premises and plots have Hollywood destroyed with big name actors, over the top cliche's and romance(I hate unnecessary romance plots, with seething terrible rage)? I do respect your opinions though(have for a long time, and I feel really awful to be somewhat against you on this matter redface ), I'm just angry at the machine. :]

That is most definitely not the way to go. By doing that, you may instill in peoples minds that fans think others are too dumb to understand the movie. If somebody likes the movie, and is supportive of it, it shouldn't make a difference as to whether they like obscure or mainstream movies. By saying that there are fans for the movie that shouldn't be fans, you yourself are not being supportive of the movie. By doing that, you're burying the movie even more than it already is.

Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade!
wreaking havoc: Making that assumption does not make it true. A mainstream movie fanatic could in fact like all of these odd indie movies that do come out frequently if they knew about them. Midnight Meat Train which faced the same fate as Repo! was, from the people who did see it, a really good film, but since it was not released in the thousands of theaters world wide no one really knew/knows about it. If Repo! was released mainstream, who knows how many other people would be hooked. It was never given that chance, and a few bad experiences trying to get people to like it does not constitute it as fact for every other person out there.
I have actually had great experiences getting people into the Repo! world. There are several people in my classes on campus that I have made into Repo! fans that do like the movie, and they would have never known about it without me flashing it in front of them. These are the same people that go to the movies frequently and see all the mainstream things that come out.
Also, anti-Semites are based on beliefs and not necessarily personal taste. You just compared apples to oranges.
Hide your face so the world will never find you.
