You play to win the game. The current overtime rule in the NFL is fine. Offense can win it, defense can win it, and special teams can win it.

I agree with you, besides overtime makes the game just that more exciting to watch, especially if your team happens to be the underdog and is currently doing great during that game. Also to end things in ties is just well LAME(when it comes to sports), it's like saying "okay we all tied, now let's win the superbowl together and be happy cause none of us lost."

Where is the fun in that, the excitement that we all love to get when watching this sport that we love...it just wouldn't be there anymore. Besides in football there can be only one official winning team, it can't just end in a tie. However that doesn't mean that the losing teams are losers either, I mean they played a good game and did their best. As long as they put effort and heart into their game then HEY that still makes them a winner in my book even if they didn't officiallly win.

Agreed. But the only argument against this is that many people think a close loss in overtime can be more crushing than losing a blowout...

I think overtime,and its rules are ok. The team has to go their hardest. and thats what overtime and football is about. plus if there was no overtime each team would have like 6 tie games every season!

i like the OT rules the way they are now. i hope Goodell doesnt change it. both teams have there chance to win in during regulation. and its so dumb when somebody argues that its an offense only league so the 1st team to get the ball will win. thats like telling Troy P. or Demarcus Ware or other great defenders that they shouldnt even walk onto the field if they lose the OT toss.

I think i heard a stat before this last weekend of games that only four of the nine teams to win the coin flip in overtime went on the win the game (not sure if this was opening possession or in general). So with the saints game, that makes it only a 40% chance still which is pretty even. Being a saints fan, I've always been a bit biased because they never really have had a good defense until this year (as long as I've been into it). Sitting back and looking at just pure numbers, it seems to be a very fair rule that's currently in place.
