"I read. You like science fiction at all? I could loan you something."

After all, it was easy enough to track anyone down here. No one was going anywhere.

"There's movies in the common room," Cass continued. "And there's always the beach, though you sorta got to watch for jellyfish and things."

"Reading's good. I never really read much science fiction...but maybe. It's something to keep in mind." And, of course, something to remember to return. There were always articles of clothing that turned up in other people's luggage after camp for one reason or another...

"Movies, huh? Hopefully they have stuff worth watching, and not just Disney or stuff like it," Chana mused. The beach was a given, but it was always nice to have...slightly more hi-tech alternatives.

"Are there any sports played here? Any random equipment lying around?" An idea had struck her. It would be difficult for Cassidy, being in a wheelchair...but hopefully most people were more...active.

"Um. Ambrose was giving people fencing lessons." Cassidy shrugged. "Other than that, I'm not sure what there is... there's probably a ball or something. If there isn't, I'm sure it will be... supplied for us." She scowled. "You might be able to round up a bunch of people for a game of soccer or baseball or something."

Baseball. That was an idea.

"I haven't played baseball in years."

"Fencing?" Chana snorted. "That's a rich kids sport." Nevermind the fact that Lake County, just to the north of Buffalo Grove, had one of the highest per capita incomes in the USA. That didn't mean that most of the people in the area were heirs to fortunes.

"And I don't think that baseball would be...simple enough for everybody," she continued. But the game in her mind should be. After all, aside from a few key rules, there was nothing else to remember save strategy.

"Ever heard of Gaga?"

"Gaga?" Cass blinked. "No, I haven't ever heard of that. Some sort of sport?"

If it wasn't, she'd sound sort of silly.

"Not really. Just a game. But it's a lot of fun. There's a ball, it's tossed into the air and let bounce three times. Those three times, everyone says "ga" when it bounces. Then you can hit it. It's like dodgeball, except with just one ball," she explained. Of course, she'd only played Gaga with her Jewish friends...so that could be why Cassidy hadn't heard of it.

And those were the basics. All other rules were elaborations and safety things. After all, a well-aimed ball could (and had) break noses.

"Oh."

Cassidy nodded, trying to envision this. "Sounds fun, actually. Maybe someday we can get a ball and a group together and try it."

Wheelchair or not. Yeah.

"Well..." Chana carefully didn't look too closely at Cassidy, but took a look at her legs. "I think you'll have an advantage, if the target area is only waist or below. 'Cause if you're on your knees, that already gives people a smaller spot to aim for."

She looked up again, feeling a bit faint once more. "I really do hope we can get a game going sometime."

Cassidy winced. Not much, but it was still a wince. She shook her head; no use getting angry at Chana. No, seriously. There wasn't.

But, ouch.

"Yeah, that'd be fun. Just flag me down if you ever find a ball, and we can play."
PostPosted: Fri Dec 09, 2005 7:33 pm

"I'll do that," Chana promised. She wondered how hard it could be to find a ball around here.

Then her stomach growled at her, reminding her of her original intentions in going to the cafeteria.

"Whoops!" she chuckled. "I think my body's trying to tell me something."

"Oh!" Cass laughed. "Don't let me keep you from eating. I, um. I can't stay in there very long, so I'll leave you to that."

"All right. It's been...," Chana fumbled around for a good word. Nice wasn't the kindest thing to say, but fainting (or nearly) was not the best thing to happen. "It's been enjoyable talking to you," she finished somewhat lamely. "Maybe I'll see you around."

She started toward the cafeteria and didn't look back, but kept her pace slow just in case Cassidy had something else to say. Some people were like that; always had to have the last word.

Cassidy hunched her shoulders, her feathers fluffing. "Yeah, see you."

And with one last concerned glance at Chana (at least there would be cafeteria staff inside to help if she really did pass out), she put a hand to the controls and wheeled herself down towards her duplex.
