She waved her hand at the thanks, but she did smile a tad. "Your eyes." She said, tilting her head to one side as if trying to get a better look at them. "You look. . . Unhappy, at least. And you just look tired."

-He supposed it did seem rather obvious that he wasn't in the best of shape. He knew his eyes displayed much, particularly fatigue. The eyelids were heavy and he did have a little difficulty keeping them open. Occasionaly they would droop, but he'd always catch it and force them to stay up. Kouji began to straighten himself a little more.- "You're observant." -He did not speak in a sarcastic nor crude manner, but rather a factual one.- "Can't say I'm in the best of moods. But it'll pass.. It's suppose to pass, right?" -His frown augmented.- "You... Said your name was Rene?"

Rene smirked slightly for a moment, but it faded. "Well, I do try." She reached up to ruffle her hair and eye the boy again.
"They do, sometimes. Just gotta ride 'em out and be strong."

-A light laugh was given. Ride it out and stay strong. That was a good way to think of things, certainly. But remaining strong was difficult. Even those that seem invincible crumble if circumstances become too difficult.- "Yeah?" -He set both of his hands on his head to smooth back his bangs. For a second or so his eyes fluttered shut. but, like a deer that had just heard a car horn, they reopened and he went to rubbing them to ensure they would not again slide shut.- "Make sense... Unfortunatly, even the strong sometimes fall. And usually they're the ones to get hurt." -His task of rubbing away at his eyes was completed. Once more his hands were carefully positioned on his lap. The motion had caused the coat to slide a tid-bit away from where it had been before on Kouji. He'd needed to move once more to set it further on his shoulders to prevent it from falling and hitting the floor.-

Carefully, Rene reached around Kouji and tugged the jacket up over his shoulders. Giving it a pat once it was there, she pulled back and rested her hands in her lap.
"Then you have to make sure you have some one to land on if you do fall." She smiled at him slightly. "Even if you fall back, as long as someone's there to catch you, it doesn't hurt as bad."

-Talking felt a little odd. He did not know the girl at all. He'd learned her name hardly a while ago and there he was, chattering like a gossiping school girl. The comparison gave Kouji perhaps one of the worst thoughts he'd ever had about himself. He? A gossiping school girl? That was an awkward idea. Sluggishly he turned his head so that he could see the girl clearly with his eyes. The dark circles resting beneath the optics made them seem as if they were far back in his head. Another tug was felt on the corners of his mouth. He gave an askew, disfigured, smile to the girl before stirring so that he could stand up. His legs were begining to fall asleep from the sitting. Fingers were latched onto the jacket so to keep it positioned where he wished it to be.- "That's.. A good way of looking at things." -He stated calmly. It was truth. If there was someone to catch you, someone to help you fight off what was wrong then things never were too bad. That was how the movies went on television so that was how things had to be in reality.- "You sound like a philisophical genius." -A light chuckle was given.- "So.." -He cleared his throat and tried to stand straight. However, he couldn't do it. His body just seemed to clouch foward a little.- "What..Brings you here? I mean.. Not.. Here, but.." -He thought.- "Why'd you come to talk to me?"

Smiling a slightly twisted smile, Rene also stood. "I'm a bit older than I look, you see. I come off sounding like an old maid a lot of the time." She dusted her knees off and stretched a bit.
"Oh, I came up here to escape my family. They were being too cheery about the season and got mad at me, so I high-tailed it out of there. Guess were were just lucky to meet here."

"That's a good thing." -Kouji tried to keep his smile alive. It was withering away, threatening to perish like a rare wilting flower.- "I have a brother who happens to be a little.. Like that. Sometimes I swear he's an old man in a child body." -He shook his head to himself. In the midst of shaking his head he paused so to gawk at the girl once again. The holidays were intended to be a season of good will and cheer.. How could one be too cheery about the holidays? He didn't question it. He simply delivered a nod and an 'I see'.- "I suppose fate felt like being nice.." -Quickly his gaze was shifted to his bare feet. He truly needed to start wearing shoes.- "Do you come here often?"

"My brother, Conan, used to be like that. Started talking before he could walk, watched PBS before cartoons. He's grown into his body now."
Rene did snort slightly. "I'm sure my family wouldn't agree with you. They'd be saying, 'Poor Kouji, having to deal with our Rene!' " She rolled her eyes at this, mimicking the voice of a somewhat whiny girl. "And I don't come up here nearly as much as I should. I usually just stay out in my room, listening to music."

-Music? Kouji took a step away from where he'd been standing, feeling the burning need to move just a little bit. He had to think to himself as she spoke that the girl amused him and entertained him more than even his sketch book did. Her immatation of a complaining female had slightly delighted him, although it had created no form of childish ecstasy.- "Well that gives us one thing in common.. Can't say I'm here too often either. I.. usually stay at home in the basement." -He wrinkled his nose at how awkward that sounded.- "It's.. Where my stuff is, anyway. My paint. I paint." -He blurted out to recover from his comment on the basement. His statement about painting only furthered his desire to retract what he'd suddenly said. He hardly told anyone he painted. He often said he drew, but rarely did he mention the paint.-

"Unfortunatly, one of my siblings has learned how to unlock doors, and now I can't hide there. The basement is where my uncle lives when he gets into a fight with his girlfriend."
"Oh, you paint?" Her eyebrows raised slightly and she smiled. "Impressive. I'm not good at art, myself. Since I'm not too good at it, I don't really enjoy it. I love looking at the finished product, though."

-Kouji gave a brief nod. It was unfortunate not to have the basement to one's self. The basement.. Was a wonderful place, at least from his point of view. Hardly anyone hiked down the stairs and into the room, it was extremely quiet, so quiet one could hear the very beat of thier heart.- "Fortunatly, I don't have an uncle. Basement's mine for the taking." -He sounded content with that fact. His own little room outside of his bedroom.. A light red tint managed it's way onto his face. After a brief second it began to fade away, though. He had no meant to mention anything like that. But it was out in the open now, there was nothing he could do about it.- "Yes, I paint." -He cleared his throat. He knew he certainly did not appear to be the artsy type.- "It's.. Calming, I guess. Easy to get lost in colors and brushes." -His fingers tightened on the girl's jacket about his shoulders.- "It's always intresting to see finished products.. Of anything."

"I feel the same way when I practice drums. I can just give myself up to the beat and everything else fades from reality. It's nice to have something to retreat into."
She sighed, looking up at a clock. "I'd best be heading out. Jeane'll be pissed if I dissapear for too awful long." Not bothering to take her coat back, she waved at him. "Hope to see you again, Kouji. It's been nice." She walked from the room and headed off.

-It had taken Kouji a good while after the girl had left to realize he still posessed her coat. At first he had pondered running out to try and catch her, but something had stopped him from taking that route. A quick glance had been given to the clock to catch the time. It did seem to be getting fairly late. He had a slight feeling Kit was nervous about Kouji's sudden departure in the midst a meal. A sigh was given. He'd best get home himself, he supposed. With his fingers clinging to the jacket to hold it in place Kouji slipped out of the center and headed off down the road to return home.-

Sere glowered as she stalked in; Her guitar was strapped around her shoulders, with her red shoulder bag hanging over it. She had the box of demon seeds from Lester in it, as well as the rose from Halley. Cicero was snoozing in the bag too. She unceremoniously dropped the bag on one of the couches, eliciting a loud yowl from Cicero, who zipped out of the confining red denim to perch on an armrest, licking his paw.
Sere glared at him, sticking her tongue out, making faces, trying to get him to shoo. Finally she grunts, leaning forward to pry a shoe off. Watching her cat for a moment, the cat warily watching her, she tossed the shoe near the cat, purposely missing Cicero by a few inches. Suffice to say, he darted away to another corner of the adoption center as she slouched down with a sigh in an arm chair.
