Kaori Kapoigne
I've been invited to play a game later this year, what am I to expect from? What is expected of me?
Just be what you want to be and do what you'd like.

Yeah...the standard way of most RPs. The next big rule is to not be afraid of pissing off anyone. Except for the GM.

I wouldn't worry about that, our GM is very patient and has a great sense of humour. You can get away with a lot if you ask him nicely. 4laugh

And the guy with the biggest gun, don't piss him off either.

That rogue trader thing seems decent enough, but 60 dollars is a wee bit pricey, also i don't really care overmuch for claims of awesome made by the guys who sells the thing.

I'm thinking about rolling and writing up an Imperial Navy officer as my character, I'm probably going to use the Adept or Arbitrator career as a template of sorts. I want my character to be more of a non-combat, regal and aloof sort of person who knows a crapton of things about this and that. I'm also doing this so I can use that finely sculpted Naval Officer mini by Juan Diaz.

An Adept would do a bit better as that "know a hell of a lot about everything" sort as a non-combatant.

Aye, I've been going over some details and an Adept is the best choice, just need to think up some custom titles for each rank advancement along with a more navy-esque build of skills to make him feel like an Imperial Navy in more than one way.

You're free to go anyway you like, just as long as it doesn't result in a broken character or TPK on first contact due to some vague rule.

My man will be a strict and cordial kind of chap, who despises combat and would rather stand at the rear staring things down then waving a pistol about.

I'll be sure to ask for an extra truck load of tables to kick over and hide behind. whee

I'm not a coward but I am aware of the high fatality ration in Dark Heresy games, so I'd like to go along and play without having to roll up a new character every other session. sweatdrop

No worries, Stu is very aware of this and does his best to make it as challenging and forgiving as possible. I'm glad to say that during our first session with the scenario found in the book only one character died! Too bad it was the feral, you know Erd something-something. In the end he got his death wish and helped us vanquish the daemon. Not before I had an eye scratched out and the other lass in our group had her arm torn off. Sorry bunch we were. xp

Erd died? That's a shame, I found the concept of an educated savage with a death wish rather entertaining. So does this mean that you will all be starting over with fresh characters?

Okay, I've spent some time this afternoon working on my naval officer, stats and everything plus a small background. I have taken small liberties here and there to make him different from the Guardsman career that I took as the base for this custom career. Seeing as he's a Naval officer I decided to give him the Pilot (Spacecraft)(Ag) skill. I've added a custom starting skill to denote his background: Common Lore (Imperial Navy)(Int) along with Speak Language (Navy Battle Cant)(Int). The only things I'm not so sure about are his ranks (need help on getting good navy ranks) and how to best advance him should he survive his first encounters.

Name: Gunther von Darius
Career path: Imperial Navy (Guardsman)
Starting rank: Deck Officer (Conscript, of sorts)
Homeworld: Hesperus, a Paradise Hive World, the top Spires

WS: 37
BS: 34
S: 38
T: 32
Ag: 29
Int: 39
Per: 39
WP: 29
Fel: 37
Wounds: 13
Fate Points: 1
Insanity: n/a
Corruption: n/a
Thrones: 73

Skills: Speak Language (Low Gothic)(Int), Speak Language (Navy Battle Cant)(Int), Pilot (Spacecraft)(Ag)
Talents: Basic Pistol Training (Las), Basic Weapons Training (Primitive)
Gear: Sword, Laspistol + 1 reload, Naval uniform (High Quality clothing), chrono, dataslate

Bought skills and talents: Weapon Skill (+5), Ballistic Skill (+5), Awareness (Basic), Sound Constitution (+1 W)

Divination: "Know the mutant; kill the mutant" Increase Perception by +2

Physical appearance: Male, 29 yrs old, pale skin, black hair, blue eyes. Has a bullet wound scar on his back.

Background: Born as the thirteenth son into the von Darius family of Hive Sicarius. As the member of a noble house his career was cut out for him: he could either work as a farm supervisor somewhere out on the plains of Hesperus or enlist with the Imperial Navy, a family tradition normally only upheld by the second scion of the family. Having nothing to lose or gain on his homeworld Gunther enlisted with the Imperial Navy as a youth, opting to take up a posting as far away as humanly possible from his brothers and sisters already serving in the Navy. For the coming decade he would serve on numerous orbital stations and other facilities, never really finding a place that suits his always inquisitive and questioning mind.

It was while serving as a lowly deck officer on board the Sword Class frigate "Saint Narkiss" during his twelfth year of service that Gunther really stepped into the foreground. He was attached to the vessel to act as an envoy to a visiting inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus, tasked with seeing that the woman's every request was met as soon as possible. Perhaps the witch finder saw some potential in the officer, for at the end of her journey she requested that he was to be transferred into the care of retinue for an undisclosed time.

Personality: A loyal man who while obedient and direct in following his orders cannot help but question everything around him. He does not mean harm with those questions, he is most curious, something that has gotten him into trouble many times before whilst serving in the Navy.

Woot, looking good for a first time character. I'll run it by Stu tomorrow during lunch and see what he thinks. You should be okay, we can work custom ranks later this week, Friday maybe? I'm a bit rusty on my Royal Navy ranks so some research might be in order.

You know, I could probably talk Stu into letting you have a small energy shield of sorts as with the old Navy officer designs. wink
