While explaining (or attempting) he'd taken to staring out across the room as if the wall were interesting. The feeling of her gaze on him drew his attentions from the distance and back to her. An almost awkward expression sat on his features. At least she hadn't been upset by his answer. Or didn't look it. Something made him think she would try to hide it, were she offened. The look faded back into its normal placidness. "Why do you ask?" he questioned, out of both a growing curiousity and a need to shift the spotlight away from himself this time.

Had it been that difficult of a question for the older male? She supposed so, since she couldn't even comprehend it herself. Nahanni's ears collapsed when he shifted to stare at her, an odd expression to his face. So she turned to face forward once more, leaning against the couch. The answer had seemed logical enough for her to accept. Even if it did result in a limited standard that kits were accepted. "Just...wondering. About my family." Or some of them, at least. She wasn't a frequently visited aunt, let alone sibling. She had no say in how those young would grow up.

A brow raised when she looked away. But he shrugged it off, removing his gaze from the back of her head as to not burn his stare into her. He knew how annoying that could be. Paws pressed against the fabric as he used his weight to idle lift his head from them. Her family, eh? "Has one of your family memebers recently had kits?" he questioned, assuming that had been the reason for her asking. He had no idea just how large her family actually was. The idea of having so many offspring birthed of one family would've confounded him. But regardless of her answer, he wouldn't be bounding off to preach to her kin. His interest in her realtions stopped with her as long as they didn't wander into his company.

"Hmm." She nodded to his words, unaware of any actions he may be doing behind her eyes. "Two sisters, and now there's the next generation...already with seven." It was almost caught up to her own generation of ten. Just the thought made her legs turn to gel, and she slid forward into a heap on the floor. "I'm honestly...hurt by it...." She never really feel through and analyzed her emotions before. She simply felt them and followed their flow of power. But now, as of late, she was taking the time to figure out their why's and how's. It was something of a topic she wasn't enjoying, and was ready to escape from.

Already with seven? Brows furrowed. So many innocents. Were they still kits, he wondered. But as she slipped into a heap before him, he forgot the thought of number and focused on her. Pale eyes stared down as her voice met his ears. They slid back as if bitten by the fact that she'd felt hurt. Rising on the couch, he moved around and jumped down. In another swift motion, he laid at her side, offering his own sort of aloof and awkward comfort. The floor wasn't as comfortable as the sofa, but he supposed he didn't much mind when it concerned her. After all, he laid outside on the not so soft ground all the time, right?

Banded tails curled around his form and he crossed his paws, continuing to watch her for another moment of silence. And then- "I'm sure it would be hard." It would be hard for him to see all those innocents grow up. Why it was hard for her, he wasn't sure he'd be able to understand. Hm.

Nahanni wasn't aware of any of her surroundings, both sound and sight. Head slipped down to rest on her paws, face flushed with the threat of crying. It didn't help any with his words of confirmation, and she found her efforts useless. For Nahanni, small moods swings like this were necessary for her long periods of placid nature. Warm tears slid quietly down, but she stayed still and hushed. There were still other kitsu in the room, and she didn't want attention.

"I don't know why it is......I know one's supposed to be happy about it." The news of kits, as she had witnessed, was welcomed with smiles and cheers. But Nahanni had sat back, ears deflated and eyes confused when she had absorbed the news. Her voice quivered abit. "I already....have a hard time connecting with siblings. And with the new family....it feels like a cramped room...where I get shuffled out the door and out of sight." That's how her logic viewed it, considering she was always in the corner of rooms. Like a small and quiet mouse playing no part.

The tips of his tails twitched nervously. This wasn't the first time he'd seen her upset, but that certainly didn't make it easier. The sight gave him a sour stomach, though at first he could do nothing but watch her dumbly. And despite himself, he felt as if it were his fault. Just like the first time, just like before. If he hadn't agreed to the empathy, she wouldn't have been hurt then. If he hadn't asked her to explain herself further, she wouldn't have been hurt. Pale eyes narrowed as another emotion fired within him. Annoyance. Again with the feelings. Why did the chains binding his useless emotions always slip away at the worst possible moment. After all, what kind of comfort could he offer if he was becoming nothing but a mess, himself?

"You don't have to feel the same things as others," he responded, looking away for a moment. "It's alright to have your own ideas and emotions concerning an event." His almost lecture probably sounded pretty lame at this point. From the corner of his eyes he watched her again. "I can see you. You're... not invisible."

It was no one's fault but her own swelling of emotions. And her lack of controlling them. Nahanni took balanced breaths, composing herself back to her common face. What a nuisance. She never let her turmoils so open before, and even when they did overwhelm her, she was hidden from sight in the library. Now they appeared as dedicated as the leaves falling for winter.

The nearest ear flicked lightly. She didn't, even if it seemed like the only thing to do? Her mind couldn't even respond to the male, let alone state her opinion. Whatever that may be, for even she didn't know. "I suppose." She wasn't invisible, not yet. But she felt pressured none the less. How could she possibly bother pleasing her parents anymore, when she could never beat the joy given to them by grandkits? Compared to her other siblings, she felt....just...in a rut. Too introverted to find her own happiness. Being content, absolutely. But nothing more.

No one could be anything more than the world wished them to be. Despite their talents and striving, if the world found it humorous to inflict discomfort, there was nearly nothing that could be done. However, Ikuinen found himself disturbed more at the thought than he ever had. It didn't bother him as much that the world sought to make him invisible. And it certainly didn't bother him that the world chose to make fools invisible. But he couldn't believe that anyone like her could be made to disappear. Not the loudest of all Kitsu, no, but she had a quiet presence that he thought should always be noticeable.

Frowning, he shook his head. "You suppose, but don't believe." The actions and tone were evidence enough. "Who can you believe in if not yourself? And you certainly can't expect others to see how important you are if you can't see it." Perhaps she just needed someone to tell her she was important. Too bad he couldn't bring himself to do it in a straightforward manner.

Sadly, Nahanni wasn't that deep. To consider such wordly intentions and paths for each individual. She simply lived for her parents, but...had she reached the point where it was time to end? Was that bond only for youth, then adulthood cast you into a whole new expectation? If not to impress her parents, then what was she to do? That sort of independance hadn't struck her yet, even with her aloof nature. What was there to live for when you've reached adulthood?

Curious eyes peered to the other, now dry and somewhat settled. Believe? That wasn't something she had read in textbooks or anything else in the library. Must be a live lesson she still had to learn. "I suppose I'll try it." If she had any idea how to go about it. "Does it work for you?" The girl halted her words and shook her head, not meaning to drag on the topic. Rising to her paws, she shook out her fur and tension, giving Iku a hollow but honest smile. "Want some hot chocolate now? That...sounds nice."

His maw parted to answer. No, it honestly didn't work for him. It worked about as far as his ideals were concerned. He believed in them. But as for himself, no, not really. However, the shake of her head stopped him. Did she not want to hear his answer? Did she want to change the subject? After all, she didn't look as upset now. Maybe she was ready to move on. The answer to all his questions came swift enough and he nodded internally. He would oblige her decision. It really wasn't his place to pry.

Looking up to her as she stood, the nod came externally this time. Whatever she wanted to do. If it sounded nice to her, then he supposed he thought the same of it. Rising to join her, he looked off to where he thought the kitchen to be. It'd been a long time since he'd needed anything from it. "After you, dear Nahanni," he said with a smile, reverting back to his normal, casual tone.
