I started playing indirectly because of...*sigh*...guitar hero.
YYZ is on GH2 and and I really feel in love with the song and then became a Rush fan which made me really appreciate bass so I picked one up and started taking lessons and loved it.

I play the bass because its always been my favorite instrument. I was inspired by reggae and rock music. The whole sound of the instrument is just ..sexy lol. its really hard to explain >.< My biggest influences are Flea(rhcp),Tony Kanal(no doubt),Les Claypool(primus), Shavo(soad), and Murdoc(gorrillaz)

I started to like bass when I first heard Les Claypool. I didnt even know what bass was at the time & I asked my dad what that sound was. That was like 8 years ago & I never picked up a bass until 5 years after, mainly because lack of money. I bought my first bass (a used $80 Squire P bass) & I never looked back. I found so many things you could do with a bass as appose to guitar. I learned about so many different bassists & their amazing styles & now bass is my life. & I really cant stand some guitarists because lots that I know are so ignorant & say stupid things like "bass sucks" & "who wants to play such a gay instrument?". But I can own most of them at guitar & I dont even own one XD

why did i start playing bass? One guy, James. He was the coolest guy in my tiny little town and my boyfriends best friend. I loved music and always wanted to play something, but i knew that i couldn't play drums as i was too unco and could not get it right, and there were far too many people spouting off that they could play guitar. Then James offered to teach me bass. The arsehole never got around to it but i decided that i wasn't going to wait and after stealing his bass a few times at his place and getting a feel for it i got my mother to buy me one. James is still a mad arse bassist, and he still says he'll teach me. pfft but i dont care anymore, i tought myself.

I got into bass because one of my friends was learning guitar and told me we could start a band if I learned bass. This was a little over a year ago. A little under a year ago, I got one and loved it. I prefer it over guitar. The deeper sounds, not having to learn and practice chords, slappin' and poppin', and all that. Now that I pay attention to bass in music, I like it all the more. I'd had an acoustic guitar for years (still do) but I never learned to play it and didn't really like it, so I'm sticking to bass.

I have played tones of instruments but bass feels different. I usually play when i'm upset, angry etc. Makes me happy.
Plus whenever i walk into the music store someone is always looking for a bass player, not many were i live. cool

I play bass cause I couldn't play the regular guitar, too many strings and when ever I tried to do a cord it sounded crappy cause the pads of my fingers are big and I'd hit other strings I wasn't supposed to. and I wasn't ever good at memorizing cords while in concert band.
so I just decided to buy a bass off of my friend cause it's a little more original and is under appreciated. Plus I got a lot of female friends who like bass players, lol

I tried playing guitar, but I wasn't very good and got bored of it. Then for a while I thought about playing drums, but lack of space and living at home with my mother who'd most likely complain about the noise put that pipe-dream down the toilet... so then my boyfriend who is a guitarist, but started out on bass, offered to give me his old bass guitar and teach me to play... so here I am! razz

I play bass because I've always had an ear for bass. I love everything about the sound of bass especially when my fingers are creating it. Also I'm convinced that I want to play for the rest of my life and therefore I am studying music dilligently and practicing away many hours of my life. It's more than a hobby of mine, it's a passion. I just love it when I lock into a groove with the drums and just jam on, not even thinking just letting the music flow. That's why I play bass.
