Raziel's always made perfect sense.
For Kain, I can see what you're saying.

better than the tube reaver! I don't know if you ever used that cheat, but it turned both Kain and Raziel's versions into a cardboard tube. No effect changes, just looks. Beating people up with an empty wrapping paper roll is kind of odd. sweatdrop

xd No, I've not used that cheat. The only cheat I used was in Soul Reaver 1, which granted you Kain's (dark) and Ariel's (light) reaver enchantments, though they had no actual effect.

Oh, I adore the actual cheats built into a game engine. SR1 had a code to give you all the powers and such from the beginning. I am not sure of cheats in SR2, but in Defiance, there was the tube reaver (as mentioned). I lament that such codes that used to be unlockable or earnable, or just hidden are now dlc. That upsets me. crying

by the by . . . this made me giggle like a schoolgirl. I love hearing the rage, and share in it knowing that i would be doing the same thing if I were to play that game.

Yeah, cheat codes (at least, the non-game-genie/shark type) really do seem to be going extinct. Do you remember how nearly every early 3d fighting game had "big head" mode? I'm amazed more fighting games haven't tried to monetize that, but "big head" mode did fall out of popularity anyway as visual fidelity improved.

That's great! xd Killer Instinct was originally a Mortal Kombat clone, and clones generally aren't known for their balance. I guess that's what a modern gamer gets for stepping into retro territory unaware.

I wish I could find an editorial video that I once saw about this. The microtransactions for all that used to be free, and the release of games that are only half finished is an appalling fact of the games industry right now. Games are released with the promise of more content to be released (for sale) later. Then there are the little things that used to be appreciated deeply as little easter eggs and wonderful little things to find and earn. Ratchet and Clank is a prime example. Doing odd things that are difficult earned Skill Points, and those points would unlock fun aspects. Now, those are all for cost, and can be a highly egregious pain in the a**.

Yes, KI has evolved from another dime-a-dozen games to capitalize on MK into a game of it's own right. I am very pleased to see that. The game is entertaining. whee

Sorry, holiday business and internet troubles... Not good excuses, but they're all I have, wink

Yeah, but such is the state of our games industry. The season pass idea, while neat and great for someone planning on buying all of the DLC anyway, is just for profit as you say.

Similar to King of Fighters (or most SNK fighting games), since they began as Street Fighter clones.

Tis the holidays, old friend. No apologies are required. I am just glad you are okay.

I imagine there will be a time soon when the microtransaction backlash will make the games industry turn on it's heel. The only question is how long.

Seems a lot of Christmastime viewing has been emotional and sad lately. Summer Wars, virtually all of Doc Who . . .

The changes to the games industry are interesting to watch. Some say it will crash catastrophically, but I sincerely doubt that. Big publishers may be finding it harder to keep up, but that really just means that we're going to have to be realistic about a limit to graphical polish in order to keep game budgets from getting out of hand. As for what will happen to the PC or console markets specifically (since different people claim both are dying), I couldn't say.

Oh, you watched Summer Wars? That's a good movie. Mamoru Hosoda (creator of this as well as Wolf Children, and Girl Who Leapt Through Time) does a good job. It was sad at a point, but I like the overall happy ending.

I doubt the games industry will completely crash . . . It may deflate to a major degree (like arcades). The problem is that games were pushed to the limit in graphics and polish and now they cost millions upon millions to make. They mirror movies in that way, and that is not a business model that can survive without change. As for computer games, I cannot really say. I have stuck with consoles for the "plug n play" ease. PC games require installs, and hope you ahve the right computer parts to make it work as well as no conflicts with other programs. That is just too much headache for me. Spoiled or not, I just want to put a game in and *gasp* play it.

Summer wars was quite nice . . . very emotional, but it makes me keep wanting to watch.

There's nothing wrong w/ wanting consoles for their vast benefits. What's annoying is how some more recent consoles seem to want to be a computer and even recommend/require game installs.

I stuck w/ Sega consoles and have been w/ Nintendo since Sega stopped. Since my college didn't allow game system for all but my final year there, I got more and more accustomed to PC games. I always played PC games as well, since they provide superior experiences in the RTS and WRPG genres, but college is when I really started using Steam and playing indie games.

Summer Wars is his best of the 3. Wolf Children is good, but is somewhat vague in its plot. Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an adaption of a novel, which is good but nothing too out of the ordinary for time travel stories.

Well, games have reached the level of perfection where it is hard to truly improve on games. From a graphics standpoint, they cannot truly improve by much. Sound? much the same. Since the use of disks, sound is about as good as possible. Thus, in order to continue drawing in the audience, the game systems have to branch out into other areas. The X Box One is a perfect example. It is trying to be the "one" device for tv, games, and movies. For me, I want a game system to . . . play games. shocker. Computers can do so much more, but that is the point of a computer. I use my computer for very few games. I use my PS3 for very few apps other than games.

Yeah, I keep watching Summer Wars, and keep enjoying it. Wolf Children has my attention a little bit- but not enough to hunt for it. As for Girl Who Leapt Through Time, never heard of that one. sweatdrop
