"The way to remedy that is by making contact with him. However, it will not work if you try to force yourself. What you should do is start off small and work your way up. By that, I mean start by simply touching his hand. If you can, try holding it. Do that for awhile until you're comfortable with it. Once you feel you are, move up some. Let him put his arm around you and so on." the doctor suggested.

She nodded again, the firelight casting strange shadows on her face as she fidgeted in her seat. The enchantress stayed silent, waiting nervously for the next question.

The doctor wrote some more notes down and adjusted his legs.
"How about hygiene? Have you been avoiding regular bathing because of feeling vulnerable?"

"I'm far too obsessed with my hygiene to do so. The only thing that's changed is that I do so alone and under the guard of several layers of protective wards."
And in a state of fear, but she neglected to mention that part.

"I see." Dr. Irra nodded.
The gnolata wrote a few more things down before moving on.
"Have you been outside of your house at all? It was a beautiful day when I arrived here."

"A few times. Into the forest, when I needed a place to think. Or the fields, when I needed to see an open sky."
When the Estate walls seemed to be closing in on her, she had fled to the meadows and could breathe again.

"That's good, actually!" the doctor gently exclaimed.
"Most people tend to hole up and never leave. From what I have observed, you are already making a slow recovery. With some time and a little effort, I expect you to be your normal self within the year or so. However, you might need something to help with the nightmares."

Emma blinked at the soft exclamation. "You're sure?" The fire blazed up a little in response to her shock, and she swore under her breath, glaring daggers at the flames until they subsided.
"Something to help with the nightmares? How do you mean?"

The gnolata answered her question with a question of his own.
"You drink tea, I take it?"

Emma smiled. "I'm English. I practically bleed tea."
That was one stereotype that Emma hopelessly conformed to.

"Well, most doctors would prescribe pills. However, the Imperator knew you wouldn't take to well to modern medicine. That's why he called me. There is an herb that can be found on the planet Anghor that the Kendari use in just about everything. They have for thousands of years, in fact. It has some healing properties that will calm you and help you sleep better at night."

"Remus is quite right." Emma replied. "And whatever it is, if it helps me get an ounce of rest I would be eternally grateful."
Reaching out through her mental network, she sensed no eavesdropping.
"Does it work on humans as well?"

The doctor nodded. "Of course. It has the same effect on just about any species. The actual name of the herb is hard to pronounce for me, but in Rome, it's simply known as 'Leaf 42'."
((Sawwry. Couldn't think of anything Kendari sounding.))

"And I could procure some of this herb where, might I ask?"
So, she was in no danger of poisoning him. That was good. She fingered her wedding ring thoughtfully.

((Heh..you caught it.))
"I'll put in an order for you and have it delivered. They don't sell it on this planet, I'm afraid. However, I have some with me, if you want it." the doctor suggested.
