"This nu--er, guy is your DAD?!" Jin said in shock, carefully avoiding the word 'nut' for his own safety. he didn't think she had any relatives around her by her lifestyle.

"Was my father," Kate corrected without looking at Jin. The man was standing, arms folded, in the doorway between garage and kitchen. "Prove it," were his only words, referring to pregnancy.

"What--But you--How could--GAH!!" Jin gave up and slammed his head against a nearby wall a few times before looking at Kate. "Any chance of reasoning with this guy? Or do i have to hop down to the nearest drug store to pick up one of those 'home tests'?"

Kate's father looked from her, to Jin, to her again. Finally, gruffly, he seemed to accept the fact that Jin had not fathered any child of hers. Slowly, and with a silent invitation to the two, the middle-aged man entered his abode.
Kate walked to the doorway, stopped for a moment, and waited for the man to leave earshot. Then she turned to face Jin from the doorway.
"No, Jin; you don't understand. He didn't think you'd gotten me pregnant... he thought you were the man who already had gotten me pregnant... and then, killed that same baby." With this, Kate turned and walked into the kitchen, leaving Jin to stand alone in the garage.

The kitchen consisted of a roomy area, lined with counters, and an island bar, filled with every sort of cooking appliance and utensil. A bar/desk combination was where customers would pick up their orders, and a nearby door led into the waiting lobby, which held a few tables along with the front door. In the back of the kitchen, however, were two other doors. One led to a bathroom/broom closet, and the other opened into a stairwell to the second floor, which contained living areas and the bedroom(s). Once, a bedroom had existed for Kate, but after being moved out for as long as she had, Kate couldn't know if her old room had been converted into something more useful or not.
The father (or ex-father?) stood with his back to the two, busily washing up the last of the day's dishes and equipment. Apparently, he operated the ice cream parlor alone.
Then again, apparently not.
"Your mother won't be home from her family reunion until tomorrow evening," the man said gruffly, without turning to face them, "so you picked the right time to come. I'm just not sure whether I should kick you out for leaving, or kick you out for getting involved with that b*****d."
Kate silently shook her head at Jin, to let him know that her father wasn't talking about him.

Jin, with nothing better to do, just looked around, feeling awkward now as if he'd walked in on someone else's family reunion. oh, wait...

"I need-"
"-Don't say it!" The man shouted, throwing down the plate he had been holding, into the sink, and thus breaking it. Whirling around, he raised a threatening index finger to point at her. "You need. You need. You need. Well," he continued, now angry, "I have something to tell you, missus. You lost your claim on my family the day you walked out. Why did you come? Because you need something. Well, whoever the hell this is, take him and get out. I don't want--your kind--here--"
At this, the man began to choke up. Tears welled in his eyes, but they were tears of pride and anger. "Just because--your mother doesn't--doesn't--know--"
Kate's eyes widened. "You wouldn't!" she accused, aghast at the threat. "No!"
The man looked down, at the ground, for a long minute. After a seeming eternity passed, he looked up again, eyes flickering uncertainly to Jin, before centering on Kate's own eyes.
"Get out."
Tears forming again, Kate backed away, taking first one step, then another, until she was finally out the garage door and fumbling with the door to the Camaro.

"He won't help," Kate said bitterly. She was silent as she backed the car out of the garage, banging it against said garage before remembering to open it. Once the two were driving away from the ice cream parlor (At a slow rate.), Kate sighed and shook her head.
"I'm sorry, Jin. I thought he would... help..." she squeaked the last part, and suppressed a sob. "I don't... I don't know what to do any more...."

Jin put a hand out and hesitated a bit before placing it on her head. "Im sorry...I barely even know what you're planning right now, let alone what to do...Just tell me what you want, and i'll do what i can. It's the least i can do after all the hell i've put you and Jun through..."

Kate pulled over to the side of the street and pulled her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "...I was planning on staying with my Dad, but he... disowned me," Kate strained to say, though she almost couldn't... but not because of sorrow or heartbreak.
"...I need somewhere to stay. I can't stay in this crappy Camaro!" Kate rocked herself slowly. Calm down, she thought. Just calm down and get it together....

Jin didn't say anything for a while before he sighed. "I may...have an idea...Though i doubt you'd be up for it since it's not exactly near town..." he said looking out the car window.
