Ragdoll couldnt help but overhear his converstation as he walked past Remus as he slid him a small note.

"Oh hey samus i forgot to give you something..."

Ragdoll's arm was enveloped with spikes as he smacks samus right into their table as Ragdoll laughed and walked out of the bar disapearing.

The Imperator, angry at Ragdoll's insolence, pulled his sidearm and fired at the fleeing doll.

However, Ragdoll had already disappeared out the doorway.

Remus sat back down, a bit annoyed that he missed.

Remus nodded as the Primus Pilus left the Tavern. Remus breathed in deeply and then pulled out some reading glasses. He went back to reading his newspaper in silence.

The Lieutenant entered the establishment in a particularly cheery mood. To anyone who spent time around her, it was particularly refreshing after such a long spell of feeling down all the time. But she had taken some good advice, and invested some time in a hobby outside her job and fighting all the time.

As Kaok sat down at her usual table in the corner, she removed from underneath her coat a small wooden chess board and pieces, and promptly began playing a match against herself.

Remus heard the door swing open and he was about ready to pull his sidearm, but he noticed that it was the Lieutenant. He watched her sit down from behind his newspaper as she began a chess game with herself. He wasn't sure if she wanted to be bothered, but a game of chess by one's self couldn't have been very fun.

Remus folded his paper and tucked his reading glasses into his coat pocket. Leaving the paper on the table, he got up and walked over to where the Lieutenant was sitting.

"Mind if we have a game, Lieutenant?" Remus asked.

"By all means," Kaok said jovially, resetting the pieces and allowing Remus to go first. "How have you been lately, Imperator?"

Remus moved a pawn forward and then sat back some.

"I've been alright I guess. The Empress and I had a divorce." he replied rather nonchalantly.

"How about you, Lieutenant?"

"I'm sorry to hear it...?" Lt. Jayim trailed off, unsure of whether or not she should offer condolences.

And her past week? Hm, well, she'd had a near-death experience on the battlefield, then a hallucination/religious experience with a Faun God she had previously not believed in and was even now still unsure about and... well, she discovered this fine game, and had pretty much been fine with the other happenings.

"Nothing so interesting as that."

The shadows writhed and twisted, forming a figure in the corner of the tavern. Once fully formed, Emma stepped out of the inky blackness, banishing it behind her with a wave of her hand, leaving a few shades to form her gown. She looked around calmly, a few spots of blood decorating her hands.

"Don't worry about it. We didn't end on a bad note." Remus said as he moved another piece into position.

Remus smiled at the faun's reply. "I have a hard time believing that, Lieutenant."

"Oh, I just had a dream in which I... met Pan." It wasn't entirely a lie, if by 'dream' she meant complex/realistic delusion brought on by being knocked on the head and almost fatally wounded. And if by 'met' she meant her and her entire platoon had an orgy with him and his other godly Faun pals. Yeah, not a lie at all.

But she couldn't say what she'd really 'dreamed' as even thinking about it again had made Kaok's already tattooed red face look a deep scarlet all over. In an attempt to hide this, she looked intently at the board and adjusted her goggles a bit downward. Cautiously, she moved a piece, slowly so as to keep her eyes plastered on the board as long as possible.

Emma stayed silent, looking down at the blood on her hands. "Oh...", she whispered, trailing off as she grew still, still standing in a corner of the tavern.

"Well that certainly is interesting indeed." Remus replied, not noticing Kaok's blush.

Remus then looked at the board for awhile, deep in thought. Some of it was about strategy for the game but a good amount of his mind was occupied with some other things as well. Remus moved another piece and captured the piece that Kaok had just moved.

Remus chuckled slightly, imagining one of his legionaries impaling a Gaian soldier with a bayonet.

Nyrk had been saving up a day's rest before he entered the tavern this night. He was armed, it was dusk, and he was convinced that behind this door, the door to the Waning Vestal Tavern, would lie a filthy nest of sun-fearing heathens.

The exorcist opened the door as casually as a man expecting a sword in his gut in a moment possibly could. He let out a sigh realizing he was wrong--other than Vii Star at the drinks (who Nyrk resolved not to exorcise in public anyhow), there were no vampires. Only several patrons Nyrk recalled having exceptional respect for, namely the Imperiator, the Sorceress, and the Lieutenant, though the latter Nyrk did not see oft.

He decided to "chill out"--such was the vernacular he heard so frequently spoken in such similar circumstances--and have a glass. Respectfully, he asked Vii for a drink. He set down a fraction of his abysmally poor income on the counter in payment.
