I suppose. I for one never had a taste for scouts. The only thing they were good as is snipers, in my opinion.

Well your like or dislike of them doesnt have much to do with them being elites. Anyways, sniping is just one role for them. Infiltrating a squad with 9 bolters and a heavy bolter is always nice. Or infiltrating a squad with CC weapons. Lower points cost, and just a lower armor save.
But also, for some people there's the fluff of it, which slowly seems to be going out the window.

Okay, point made. Still, aside from one guy who used space wolves, I've barely ever seen scout squads do anything but snipe.

Wierd, most BA players Ive encountered always had at least one, usually two scout squads, always equipped with bolters or ccws. Maybe it was just a for a cheap way to fill the mandatory troop slot or something. But either way, I was introduced to scouts through my games against BA players, as when I started I didnt see the use.
Also what about BT, Im sure youve played or seen a BT army? Or DA, in older versions, people playing rounded DA armies Ive seen usually have a scout squad set up with bolters or ccws so they can move forward ahead and use a teleport homer with the deathwing.
I dont know if space wolves should count, they actually are elites and represent veteran members. They have a more impressive set of equipment options, and the ability to come in behind the enemy. Wheras bloodclaws (i think thats the name) are their new recruits.

The only experience I have with BT stopped playing them before I had enough experience with them. Although he made them all DA, and he usually just uses Ravenwing bikes to teleport homer his Deathwing in, so he generally only uses scouts as sniping.

I have to say that the only scouts I've ever see are my own lol. they either sniped (and made use of heavy weapon options) or went in cc.

Since the newly invented "Combat Squad"-rule, I think more people would employ the idea of having mixed weapons in the squad and just split them up.
I find it odd that they made scouts being elite-choices, rather then the usuall troops-choice since scouts have always been a group of young trainees, that are going to get their first babhist of fire.
I haven´t used scouts for ages now, due to my misfortune with them. sweatdrop I´m much better with space marines when it comes to armour saves and such. crying

Thats what move through cover and infiltrating is for. I know: that is the problem. Mostlikely you have to use the scouts on more urban terrain then regular terrains; more and more buildings work as an advandace for scouts due to have very limited line-of-sights, to betterly avoid getting shot down in the first turns. But then again, it also works againts scouts, unless armed with shotguns (PoS), bolters or pistols and CCW and then just sneak around the terrains.
In my case, no matter where I put them or place them, they always get shot down by a regular infrantry squads or a bloody hellhound or some long range infrantry-killing ordenance weapon. sweatdrop

Which would be every other unit in your army considering scouts are the cheapest thing marines have.

Ah yes, the good old "cannon-fodders" tactic. mrgreen ...that´s what my space marines seems to do the best lately... sweatdrop
Oh well.... What´s your thougths on the Masters of the Chapters figures? They seem quite impressive, specially mine since I gave the Master of Watch a bretonnian footmans head and the Master of Recuits the dark angels hooded helmet head and painted it to have a camo-cloak. 4laugh Shame I ran out of ideas for the other two bosses. sweatdrop

The chapter masters are pretty fun looking figures from what I've seen. Aside from the fact that if you play them in apocalypse rules you get extra strategic assets for each of them. As for the combat squads rule. That's just an option to field more squads without taking up force org slots. That combined with the Death Company's rule where they don't take up an elite slot is pretty cool. The combat squads won't give you more models, but it will increase your army's versatility by a lot. Of course the trade off is that your squads will break easier.

Death Company´s don´t have Combat Squad rule.
Besides, it would mostlikely be unfair to other players if there we´re 2 units of Death Company´s causing havoc with their Rendings while ignoring over 50-60% possibilities of casuality and 100% of loosing leaderships, and one or both units having a Chaplain as a back up. Why make them any better then what they already are?
