 Rufus stood straight, unwilling to remain bent in his father's presence. His cheek stung, his stomach heaved, but his face remained composed. "I'm fine. The old man is losing his touch. Would you, perhaps, escort him to the dungeons to cool off?" he suggested, trying to calculate how best to restrain Alaric if the guards remained loyal to him - if they wouldn't chain him, something else would need to be arranged.

Trapped. Helena blinked. "Of course I did! I went to my father and convinced him I needed more fencing lessons. He was dubious, but even he couldn't deny that Troy was a magnificent fighter. And after a month or two of constantly having a chaperone - no hour was too early or late for that old bat! - my father judged my interest in fighting and self-defence to be genuine. He'd never known me to be an early riser before! From then... well, I wore Troy down. He had to talk to me."
"Master Rufus would have to be prepared. He'd need a coronation and he'd have to officially introduce you as his husband." She bit her lip. "He may also... struggle for a while. Being a King - a proper, just King - is tough. I know he's likely been taking on a lot of his father's responsibilities behind the scenes, but it's different when the people know who to thank. Or blame, as the case may be."

Alaric looked half crazed as the captain of his own guard stood against him. "You can't do this, I'm the King you have to listen to me not this b*****d child!" he yelled, once again thrown off a bit at the shield to the face.The captain didn't say much to Alaric. "Yes, Sire." he said to Rufus and then instructed his men to lock the King in his own dungeons. Alaric didn't go quietly, the man was quite enraged with the decision and fought the whole way down. "Are you sure you're alright? Is there anything I can do for you Prince Rufus?"** Meme Pear **
Meme nodded gently. "Do you think he would make a good King? If he learned...that is?" He hoped the woman would have just as much respect for Rufus as he did. Maybe thats what the Kingdom needed, a King who wasn't a tyrant.

Kuro found comfort in her words. "I'm glad you were able to find such a brilliant love. I've never had that...at least until Akito arrived. I'm not really supposed to tell anyone this...Alaric banned any relationships within the castle walls. I've been hiding for some time so Akito wouldn't notice...but as of recently I just couldn't hide it anymore. He's been worrying me so much lately." he said softly, placing his hand on the boy's forehead.

The moment he was certain his father was gone, Rufus crumpled in on himself, holding his stomach. "First of all, make damn sure he can't escape. Second," He groaned, "Aspirin or some kind of pain killer would be welcome. I didn't have breakfast and it feels like .. well, like I was slugged in the gut. Thirdly, just in case he does get loose, I want you to-" he broke off, eyeing the captain squarely. "Where do your loyalties lie? I do not mean to offend the army that just prevented my beating, but I will not tell you the third requirement without trusting you. Completely."

Trapped. Helena smiled at Kuro. "So have you loved him for a long time, then? It sounded... more recent?"
"He would. Provided he was given a chance - the people need proof that he is nothing like his father. Meme," she took his hands in hers, "you might become the most important character witness if he does become King. The people will look to you, to us, to see how he treats his servants and husband. Do you think, maybe, that you've forgiven him for suspecting you of... uhm..." she stumbled, referring to his ill-treatment of Meme and Akito when he suspected them of being lovers.
The whole castle knew about it, even if they didn't speak of it. Afterwards, many had feared he was exactly like his father.

The captain gave a small smile. "My Prince, I would gladly be hanged for defying that.....monster...of a King. You have no worries. If any of my men rebel I will spare nothing to put him down. Anyone who protects that man will be put down like dogs." He said sternly, mainly wanting the man to be put away to spare anymore lives or bruises.** Meme Pear **
Meme looked down at the ground. "Yes....I have forgiven him. He was really scary back then but I could imagine why he was upset. But I wouldn't do anything to hurt him like that." he said softly, now bringing his knees up to his chin and wrapping his arms around his legs as he daydreamed about Rufus for a few minutes. "A-anyways...I've told him the truth. I even told him I forgave him."

Kuro gave a little blush. "I-It sort of has....been most recent. I just wanted to protect him from Alaric. The things that man has done.....well...I just wanted to spare Akito any of it. I guess I got to him a little too late." Kuro still blamed himself a little for what happened to Akito. If he had been just a little faster he could have stopped this from happening. At least he stopped Alaric from going any further or getting what he wanted.

The Prince straightened. "I want your finest men - the best fighters and the most loyal - up here as fast as possible. I want to split them into three groups, but no more details until they arrive. And Captain, please do not say they are all loyal: the men chosen have to work well together and all be someone you would trust with your own wife and children. I hope I'm understood?"
He meant no offence, but no-one was getting near Meme unless he was certain of their allegiance to him.

Trapped. Helena shook her head, giving Kuro a stern look. "That monster is to blame. You got there and got him out. And if it hadn't happened, we would never have known what he was capable of. He might've gotten Meme, or someone else."
Cook nodded, letting out a sigh of relief. "He'll need you at his side, Meme. People will challenge him."

Meme nodded. "I will stand by his side no matter what." he said softly as he smiled. "What other things can you tell me about Rufus that might help? Do you know some of his favorite things?" He had been wanting to do something special for Rufus for a while but without some information about the Prince he wasn't sure what to do.

Kuro clenched his fists. "He's getting whatever he deserves right now." he said softly, wanting the ultimate revenge for what the King had done but to get his revenge Kuro would be sentenced for death just for touching the King in vein. "I don't know what to do....."

Rufus let out a breath and nodded. "If you betray my trust, I will find a way to get you back." He clasped the man's hand and shook, praying he was making the right choice. "You have to understand the importance of this. Thank you. I shall wait here until they arrive." He headed for the desk chair, now allowing his face to crumple. Somehow his father always managed to hit the worst spot possible. He still felt physically sick.

Trapped. Helena smiled at him. "We could sparr outside if you wish? Once the coast is clear."
"Ahhh. Leave any food arrangements to me. Unless you wish to cook? I could teach you how to make chocolate cake. He has a weakness for chocolate in desserts... and perhaps, when you're in your proper place, you could get them to re-create the tree house, without Rufus knowing?"
He'd get his own money when he was acknowledged as Rufus' husband.

The captain gave a determined look as he shook hands with the Prince. "I will not let you down." he said softly, turning around to walk out the door and order his men to do exactly as Rufus described, placing two of the royal army's best men to guard the King in his cell. A few minutes later another soldier arrived at the King's office where the Prince sat and handed over a couple of pills he found in a jar that was labeled Aspirin and a glass of water, quickly leaving to join the captain after delivering the medication.

"Well....I do want to learn how to cook...Mostly I want to learn the proper dining experience since..I'm married to the Prince. But I bet Rufus would love to have his treehouse back." he said with a small smile. How hard could it be to build a treehouse?

Kuro gave a soft sigh. "I think I'd like that. It might be interesting to see who would fare better in a sparring match, especially when you've been trained by your father's right hand guard." He would assume the match would be formidable.

Rufus thanked him, then took the medication. It hurt so much he didn't try to verify what it was. He waited for the return of the Captain and his trusted men.

Trapped. Helena nodded. "I look forward to it, I-" She broke off, hearing a faint noise from somewhere.
...
"It's Troy!" she whispered, watching Kuro to see whether or not he'd let her see him.
"I'll be glad to have you my dear - just don't pick a baking day." Cook smiled.
Troy glared at the coachman in his way. "I demand to see Princess Helena!" he boomed.

Meme smiled and heard the voice from above, was that Alaric searching for them? The princess' remark answered that question but he wasn't so easy to trust that remark so quickly.

Kuro heard the voice from above but it wasn't the King's voice. It did sound very much like Troy's voice as the Princess said but why would the man come here? And how did he know of this cottage that belonged to Rufus' family? "Everybody stay down here. I'm going to speak with him alone." he instructed, pressing the button to reveal the entrance to their hideout, thinking the man was still outside and wouldn't find their hideout. Kuro quickly closed the entrance as he came out and walked out of the cottage to meet with Troy.

Trapped. Helena allowed Kuro to go up instead, but she crept to the stairs and listened intently.
Troy straightened as Kuro came into view. The coachman had effectively blocked the doorway, so he had no idea where Kuro had come from. "Alaric provided my King with a list of holdings, so he would know what benefits would come with Rufus' marriage to Helena." he coloured. "Princess Helena, I-I mean."
Alaric hadn't paid much attention to the list, but Lionel had.
"This is the closest holding listed, so I thought I'd try here rather than the palace. Please," he clasped Kuro's hand suddenly, "tell me Rufus had the sense to hide everyone."

Kuro nodded. "Yes he did. She is safe, Rufus is handling Alaric as we speak. But I cannot allow you to see the others right now. I understand your intentions are good but I have many people to protect. If you wish to help, please go to the castle and help the Prince. Surely he could use you more than I." he stated, hoping Troy could understand his words.

Troy nodded, only partially relieved. He took Kuro's arm and took him out of earshot of the coachman. "There's been a development regarding our personal situation..." he murmured, looking as bland as he could manage. "Helena is still to marry Rufus. If Alaric is contained, Lionel sees no reason to oppose the marriage, and believes the allegiance will be beneficial to both countries. Plus, with Helena as a Queen, she can help him convince the people that he's going to be a good King."
He swallowed hard, looking away. "My King will not be disuaded."

The captain returned to the office where Rufus resided and bowed respectfully. "Sire, I have sent my fastest horses out to reach these people you have requested. They should be here by morning as they are at great distances apart from one another. Until they arrive I will personally keep watch over Alaric." he could see the Prince's discomfort and gave a soft sigh. "Should I send for the rest of the household? I know you must need a nurse or your condition will worsen, sir."

Troy's words left a bad taste in his mouth. "Thank you Troy, I will discuss this with Rufus. Please aid him and let him know everything is okay here. We will come up with something, I promise you." he said softly as he placed a gentle hand on the man's shoulder. "With any luck, we all will join you in the castle shortly."

Rufus shook his head. "It's because my stomach was empty. I have dealt with it before. I'll be fine as long as Alaric remains locked up." He looked at the Captain. "Are your family alright? I mean if you don't return home this evening?"

Troy accepted that he wasn't going to see Helena and bowed his head. "Thank you, Kuro. I shall tell him you're all alright."
He left and headed for his horse, riding for the palace.
